Since the Carolinas have a unique environment for LGBT, especially bisexuals, this subreddit is a meeting place for advice and support for anyone living in the area and dealing with the unique pressures that arise from being Carolinian.

This subreddit is a place of companionship, meeting, support, advice, and spreading the bi love. The posts that will do the best will be ones that encourage the growth of a community in the Carolinas for bisexual and other LGBTQ members, and ones who are straight but want to be supportive.

Discussion of any subject related to bisexuality - dating advice, LGBTQ-friendly locations and hangouts, meeting new friends/partners, advice on coming out, sex tips, supporting partners/friends who are coming out, questions relating to guilt and fears about sexuality, and yes, even rage comics and Facebook posts (as long as user information is not visible), and others - is the main objective of this subreddit.

RULES: Biphobia, homophobia, and other forms of hate or intolerance, even directed towards "misunderstanding straight people" will not be tolerated. Being a part of the LGBTQ community is hard enough for anyone; we don't need to make it harder for anyone else, and hating on people outside of our community just makes it harder for everyone. If you have frustrations, talk about it in a calm, clear manner, and anyone offering advice, please focus on fixing the problem, not making it worse.

If any personal information is posted (such as names in Facebook posts) that are not the poster's own, they must be covered. If you are promoting your own blog or something similar, you may include your personal information because it would help in identifying the blog/website.

Bi guy [m]eet-up

There's a new sub-reddit for bi, DL, and curious guys in upstate South Carolina.

r/upstatemoviedudes

The idea is to organize a group of guys that occasionally meet to see a movie and then meet for dinner, to discuss the movie, as well as other topics unique to the group, that we may not have anyone else to talk to about. It's a meet-up group, not a hook-up group. But if a meet-up leads to a hook-up, great!

It's a legitimate movie group, not just a cover, but it's also a discreet way to meet like minded guys in the area, without drawing suspicion.

We've had a lot of interest, and hope it will continue to grow.

Calling South Carolina Bisexuals!

If you live in Columbia SC or the surrounding area, and don't know of any bisexual communities for you, come see the bisexuals/pansexuals/queers at Bi+ Space at the Harriet Hancock Center in Columbia South Carolina! We meet twice a month, and are open to anyone that is solid in their identity or questioning their identity.

Don't want to come because you don't know if it's the right space for you? Once a month there is an educational meetup at the same Center where you can just learn more about the bi community.

There's a Facebook page you can follow to learn more, we'd love to have you!

Heterosexist Experiences Study

We are writing from a LGBTQ-affirmative research group at the [University of Massachusetts Boston — the LGBTQ UMass Boston Advocacy and Research Collaborative] (https://www.facebook.com/UMassBostonLgbtqResearchTeam) . We have developed brief exercises to help LGBTQ people deal with experiences of heterosexism. Heterosexism is prejudice or discrimination based on the idea that heterosexuality is the only acceptable sexuality. It is similar to homophobia.
We are hoping you would be willing to help us by sharing this information, and in turn contribute to the mental health of LGBTQ people who experience heterosexist experiences. If participants finish the questionnaires and exercises at the times below, they will receive an $80 Amazon gift card, and if they participate at all they will be eligible for a raffle for a $100 gift card.

In total, the entire study should take three hours to complete across five days (about 20-30 minutes on four of the days and 45-50 minutes on one day).

The study involves completing:

*A questionnaire on the first day
*A writing exercise on each of the following three days
*A follow-up questionnaire two months later.

The link to the survey is: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2582177/Initial-Page

Please share this with people who have had heterosexist experiences who may be interested. We can also send a flyer you can share or distribute at meetings. If you have any questions, please let us know by writing to us at UMBstudyschedule@gmail.com . This study has been approved by the University of Massachusetts Boston Institutional Review Board. If you have questions about your rights as participants, please contact the University of Massachusetts Boston IRB at orsp@umb.edu or 617-287-5370.

We really appreciate your support to better LGBTQ lives.
Sincerely,
Heidi Levitt, PhD & the Heterosexist Experiences Study Team
University of Massachusetts Boston

I really hope this gets more tra FDIC. Such a great idea. So... My intro.

I am 22F from the Carolinas. [M]y friend came out to me, as bi, this past Monday. I was really happy. My response "ME TOO!". He has come out to our circle of friends one by one(4 of us), within the last week. I was only out to my bf and now my buddy. My friend's courage gave me the gut to break it to one of friends within our cirlce.

I felt super super awkward. My bi friend was there with me to show support. I'm very thankful he was there. Idk if I could have done it without him... Anyway our friend was completly fine with it. I knew he would be. I wasn't scared of him. I was scared of ... Idk.. I actually don't know what I was scared of.

But anyway. I feel better now that I've told some friends. :)

Also. My bi buddy is interested in getting out there and dating dudes. Idk know how to help him bc I've only been with my current SO. Any suggestions for him?

Where we are

So seeing as we have a subreddit for Carolinians, I wonder where all of us are scattered. I've been through r/MeetLGBT, but the only ones I saw on there were in the Raleigh area. For the sake of networking/meeting friends from here IRL, etc., where is everybody? Vague locations/regions will do, since there are rules about personal information, and to respect people's general discretion.

I'll start: I'm in NC, between Charlotte and Asheville, near the SC border. Go figure, two LGBT-friendly cities, and this place is pretty homophobic, and many locals were proud to support Amendment 1.

Welcome to biandfineincarolina!

Welcome everyone to this new subreddit. I hope that it becomes a meeting place and support network for any of the LGBTQ members of Reddit living in either North or South Carolina. We face unique pressures living in the South, and this is a unique place for us.

I hope that you love us and visit us frequently! Help us get started by posting!

Thanks, and much love to you :)
