Fire around Wyckoff area?

Getting all the fire warnings recently, it looks pretty hazy towards Wyckoff/franklin lakes right now? Kind of looks like a fire, anyone else see it?

Window Repair Recommendations

Recent homeowners in Bergen county and looking for window repair recommendations. One of our windows isn’t closing fully and we don’t know if the whole window needs to be repaired or if it’s a smaller fix.

We called Hackensack glass and they only handle the glass in the windows.

The windows are CertainTeed, which seems to have gone out of business so I can’t call a customer service line for help.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

Insurance Bundle- Am I Overpaying? Better Options?

Good Morning Bergen County!

My wife and I moved from NYC to Paramus, NJ approximately 1 year ago. We currently have our home and auto insurance bundled through State Farm. I noticed in the recent months, our rates have slightly increased, I am noticing this is a trend with many other customers from various other companies as well. I wanted to share what I am paying with you guys, in order to get your opinion on if I am overpaying vs. average cost vs. considering switching coverage.

In Summary, I pay:

  • $266/month ($1,596/6 months) for 2 vehicles (1 is a 2022 lease, 1 is a 2022 fully paid vehicle); bodily injury coverage: $100K/$300K
  • Home Coverage: $1,640/year ; single family home new construction/new foundation/new roof- built 2023.

Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks community!

Who do you report when a school is doing sketchy things.

Besides a supervisor who would I report unsafe hazardous things. Electric exposed, staff bathrooms with no ventilation"all bathrooms need ventilation, plumbing leaking all the time in most bathrooms. Toilets not being flushed in student bathrooms because they are manual and won't install automatic flushers. List goes on

I am ALREADY out of Halloween candies!!!

Thought I had enough candies, based on last year's visitations. Thought wrong. Didn't figure the beautiful and warm weather would mean more kids trick or treating. Have to head to the grocery store now for a quick restock.

Halloween events around Bergen County for a hip young 71-year old?

In my family, WE DO HALLOWEEN. My mom is a party entertainer, and somehow is not working tonight for maybe the first time ever, and wants to celebrate priperly for once.

She often goes to the NYC village parade, but is scared for her safety this year. I'd have her tag along with me and my man on our plans, but we've already got (expensive) tickets to a supposedly-intense haunt. I know a lot of restaurants do halloween parties, but it seems they were all on saturday. And her husband is great but a curmudgeonly enemy of joy, so she's flying solo wherever she ends up.

How about it, Reddit? Are there any events tonight suitable for a fashionable, hip, costumed-to-the-nines, 71-year old crone with a hollow leg for Chivas Regal?

Musical Instrument Repairs - Woodwinds.

Hi! I'm looking for recommendations for a music shop that also does cleaning and repairs of woodwind instruments. Specifically for my flute, it needs an intense cleaning as it's been exposed to the air for too long and now is discolored (I know, I know, I shouldn't have let this happen.) it also needs new pads.

I used to go to Sam Ash on Rt 4 in paramus. I'm looking for somewhere closer to Montvale/Woodcliff Lakes if possible. Thanks everyone!

Jury Duty and Losing Your Parking Ticket

For the easily disoriented, like me, some advice if you lose your parking ticket when on jury duty: when you enter the garage on the ground level, on your right will be a few gray doors. The last one is an office for security. Knock on it, someone will answer. Show your juror sticker, tell them you lost your parking ticket, and the guard will tell you to get your car while he walks over to the gate and will let you out of the garage.

The guards on duty are very well trained and extremely polite. Jury duty is always a bother, but they make it far less of an ordeal.

Never Received Mail-In Ballot

Both my husband and I received our sample ballots this year but not the actual mail-in ballots. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or, if not, if there is a way to report missing ballots.

I went onto the "track my ballot" site but it doesn't show anything under mail-in ballot.

We went in person to vote a few days ago but this is still bugging me.

Edit: Yes, we both applied ages ago for mail-in ballots

It's finally raining here in eastern Bergen County!

It seems to be a passing shower but I will take it. Hope your area also gets some rain. It's been too dry recently.

Also, stay safe on the road folks, as the road oil slicks can happen with these light rain after long period of dryness.

Pizza place with party space

Are there any good pizza places that would be good for a first birthday party (mostly adults and older kids)? I’m thinking someplace with a private room/area where people can mingle. Expecting about 20 people.

Englewood NJ train noise

Hi, I'm looking at downtown apartments in Englewood near Mackay Park and was curious how often the trains run, especially at night? I'm a very light sleeper and very sensitive to train horns and was wondering if I should look elsewhere to move?

The school calendars throughout New Jersey are a nightmare

February break used to be the 3rd week in February and now many school districts have shortened that to a 4-day weekend and some cases only have President's day leading to FOURTEEN weeks without any breather. This is HORRIBLE for students mental health! And it's not like the holiday break has been extended to two full weeks nor is the school year ending in the 1st half of June.

Something needs fixing in order to restore proper breaks and still complete the school year in a proper fashion. Some states allow slightly less than 180 days if the districts have 900/990 hours (5 or 5.5 * 180 hours) while others allow three or four professional development days to count towards the requirement. In those states almost all districts have 2 weeks off at holiday time and 1 week either in February and April (if they end in mid-late June) or March and Thanksgiving week (if they end in May-early June).
