I’m interested in snorkeling but wife is not. So I’m thinking maybe island isn’t the best choice. Are there places on the mainland to stay that are nice that I could go snorkeling from? Or would I get a better experience going from an island?
Thanks.
Will be in Placencia Dec26-Jan 1, looking for recommendations for local guides for Monkey River and Manatee tour and other must dos while we’re there. TIA!
I’m in the initial planning for Belize. I’m trying to figure out if it is worth staying in a “jungle lodge” vs just getting AirBnB in San Ignacio. We don’t really care about high end food or lodging. Mostly looking for adventure. Are there things that we can do in/from a Jungle Lodge that we can’t do directly from San Ignacio? Are any of them remote where you’d see animals or other birds that you couldn’t from San Ignacio?
Thanks.
I’m talking to this girl from Belize & I want to give her a cute nickname but I’m not sure what they use in Belize so can anyone help me out?
Hi all, we are looking to rent a car (ideally a 4x4) in March next year as we will have to travel to a few places across the country. Can anyone recommend reputable car companies/individuals that wouldn't break the bank? Thanks!
Such a wonderful time meeting the family and working with the locals on getting this build done. I come every year and have new experiences every time. Volunteering for such a wonderful nonprofit really warms one’s soul. I can’t wait to come back next year and help build another!
Hello! Moving to Cayo Belize and i will be making trips back and forth from US to Belize before making a full move.
Im going to buy a car in Belize but where can i park it while im in the US?
I will need to park near the airport or Belize city so when i come visit i can drive to my home in cayo.
Does anyone know of long term parking options? Thanks
Hey, I'm excited to head to Belize for my first visit soon.
I've done tons of research and have just a few questions:
We are staying in San Ignacio and want to eat in San Jose Succotz. It seems taxis in San Ignacio are plentiful.
Are there taxis around in SJC as well, to get back to San Ignacio?
Are San Ignacio and SJC safe to walk in early evenings when it is dark but not late? (Using normal precautions and common sense, of course. There are places in my own town where I won't go at night, so I mean no offense by the question.)
Tipping -I've read 15 to 20%? Is this about right? Is it true on shuttles and tours?
$100 shuttle ride would be a $20 tip?
$400 tour would be $80 tip?
It's important to me to tip what is appropriate.
Thank you!!! This forum is such a great resource and I appreciate the work that is put into it.
Hi all,
My boyfriend and I are heading to Caye Caulker next month and I know snorkelling is meant to be incredible here. It’s high priority on my list of things to do, so wondered if anyone can recommend a tour?
We’re in our 30s, we like a drink but don’t want that to be the focus of the day so don’t want any booze cruise type “party boat” - we can do that any other time. Our focus is 100% on seeing and swimming with all the sealife.
I don’t know if it’s possible but we hate the idea of 100s of boats crowded around a spot; is there anyone who (for example) leaves earlier or knows places to avoid crowds? We’ve been on tours before where we’ve felt overwhelmed by the amount of people.
Thanks! 🐠
Where to get good coffee in San Ignacio/Ambergris Caye/Caye Caulker. I traditionally will drink a hot white chocolate mocha or an iced hazelnut latte with sweet crème foam and Carmel drizzle. Looking for something similar. I only drink fufu drinks and don’t like regular black coffee or coffee with creamer. Thank you!!.
Looking for divers next week.
I would hate to arrive and not be diving due to an empty boat.
Thank you.
Hi there! :)
i visit Belize fairly often from California, usually staying for a few weeks at a time. My stepdad is Belizean, and he and my mom are building their retirement home in San Pedro. We’ve mostly stuck to spending time with family and a few close friends, but as I’m getting older, I’m finding myself wishing I had more people to hang out with while I’m here. A bit about me: I’m 26, a nurse, and very curious—always eager to learn and explore new things. I care a lot about Belizean culture and love the food here. I love discovering different parts of the island and swimming, and I’m hoping to get into scuba diving soon.
I’m interested in large scale farming of African yam (Dioscorea spp) for export to North American markets. I’m looking for advice and insight per reality on ground in Belize regarding large scale agriculture and export. Thanks in advance.
Hey guys sorry to bother once more, but I have a question to ask you all. I need to know if you all know a great connection that travels from Belize to Cancun (international Airport) and how much you think this would cost me? I would like to know with whom to go? what bus line to take? What would be affordable during this inflated times we live in? any links of anyone that has a business that runs trips to and from Belize and Cancun? please help me out and thank you in advance and I greatly appreciate it.
We’re in Hopkins & our Monkey River tour was rained out today.
We have a trip in the morning to Red Bank to see the macaws then are considering meeting another tour group at Monkey River Village for the rescheduled tour.
We have a Lincoln navigator which they said should be good to drive there. Anyone taken the drive there after a few days of rain? How doable is it if you have a Navigator SUV?
A group of five of us are going for 5 days from New Year’s Eve on Hopkins than 4 on Ambergris caye. We know there’s cave tubing but anyone know if there is good white water rafting?
We will be in Belize for 9 days in early April. We are a family of 5 with teen boys so we definitely want to do some adventures and sightseeing on the mainland before we spend a few days snorkeling. We do plan to rent a vehicle.
How important is it to book activities ahead of time or is there usually some availability for spontaneity?
Would the Alaia care if I had one more person over the max in my hotel?
Not sure how easy it is to sneak someone in or how much they would care.
My party is 6, maximum per room is 5.
We are headed to Belize from US in mid-January for 14 days. We are planning to go all over - Ambergris, Belize City, San Ignacio, Placencia, Corozal. Was thinking of renting a car (except Ambergris) and driving myself, but wondering if that's advisable. Cost of rental vs. hiring a driver? Would someone even drive us all over the country like this? I don't think public transpo or taxi will work since we want to go to some non-touristy places while there.
Options or advice? Thanks!
Hi! I’m a professor from the U.S., with retirement getting big in the windshield, I figured I’d come visit Belize as my due diligence, figuring out where to land for the next chapter of my life. If there any expats that would be interested in a cup of coffee, etc., while I’m down there, I’m buying!
Hi all! I’ve been lurking this sub for the last month planning a last minute tripe to Caye Caulker and I’m finally here! thank you all for the great questions, recommendations, and tips!
I arrived Wednesday and have had great weather despite the forecasts, but it’s pretty yucky now and looks the same for Monday and Tuesday (I leave early Wednesday.)
I’ve already gone snorkeling (loved) so thought the rain might be a good excuse to take the ferry to Ambergis Caye and spend the day in San Pedro tomorrow.
Any advice on how to spend a rainy day in San Pedro besides just wandering around and grabbing drinks or a bite when it fancies me? I unfortunately cannot rent a golf cart so I’ll be limited to walking around (but I’ve been doing 5+ miles a day so don’t mind a good walk to check out something great!)
Thanks in advance! Also fun snorkeling pic for the algorithm :)
…and I was wondering if any expats living there could give me the lowdown on what expect. It’s a quick first trip to see if it’s somewhere I could potentially retire to from the U.S. in a few years. I’ve been trying to find info on safe expat communities/opportunities…?
Xunantunich Ferry remains closed and Crooked Tree Road is impassable.
Is Altun Ha something that is worth having a guide for. How much time should I plan to tour around the site?
Our driver cancelled on us, suggestions to reliable companies that can pick us up in the Morning from San Ignacio toTikal and drop us afternoon at Flores?
Other option: we find local transportation from San Ignacio to border (how hard/common is this?) , from border we find local transportation to Flores , we put our gear at the hotel, and find local transportation to/fro Tikal. How reasonable is this?
Coming to Belize in December. Staying 3 nights in San Ignacio to see Mayan ruins and that area, and then 2 nights in Hopkins. We definitely want to go to the beach, but what are other things to do around Hopkins for those days? We will have a car so we can go inland, but also want to do water activities. Thank you!
Going to Belize soon and wondering what the best activities to do in San Ignacio, planning to go for a day and a half (one full day and a half day). Heard everyone saying ATM caves and Xunantunich were amazing. Has anyone done the cave tubing? That also seems interesting.
Hi everyone. I am currently planning a trip to Belize for February. I have one day where I need to get from dangriga to Tikal Guatemala. Any recommendations how to do this. I’m looking at shuttle options and can’t seem to find much. Any help is much appreciated.
