Tutoring service focused on neurodivergent youth, especially those with ADHD

Hello,

I am currently working on developing Beyond The Desk Tutoring. We are a brand-new tutoring service focused on supporting neurodivergent youth, especially those with ADHD, by offering a personalized approach that meets each child’s unique needs.

We are currently conducting a brief survey to gain insights into what families and educators are seeking in ADHD-focused tutoring services. If you or someone you know could benefit from this type of tutoring, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey. If this does not apply to you personally, please feel free to share the survey with anyone who might find it relevant.

Your insights will be invaluable in helping us shape a tutoring experience that truly supports neurodivergent students. Thank you so much for your time and support!

Feel free to contact me at beyondthedeskturoing@gmail.com

Aquaponics and tilapia

Posting for a friend in need who has no Reddit account.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for Oregon local aquaponics nerds who want to or are already growing tilapia's. I have to abandon my setup because I am getting a divorce and can't take them with me. I have 25 to 50 fish from fry to fully harvest able fish. They bred three times unfortunately without me noticing. They're very hardy, and very sociable. If you can transport them I'd be happy to meet and help you get em all set up in your system.

Anyone know the owner of this car?

I was hit on 405 south right at the Hwy 26 exit, and the car that hit me sped off. My dash cam got footage of the car and plates, but the police say that the plates didn't pull up anything and suggested that they might be stolen.

I know this is a longshot of all longshots, but if anyone has a lead, I would be very thankful!

Rats in crawlspace

Anyone have pest control recommendations?

We had a pest control company come out to do an inspection and found signs of a live infestation. Trying to keep this as low cost as possible. Neither of us are brave enough to go down in the crawlspace and set traps, so I was thinking about placing poison bait stations outside, but worry about this causing rats to potentially die in the crawlspace and cause a bad smell.

Trying to decide between hiring a pest control company to set traps in the crawlspace and manage the exclusion versus us managing bait stations outside and hiring to do the exclusion.

My concern is I’ve heard pest control companies sometimes just set up bait stations and check on them every month or two months which we could do ourselves and save $500.

What would you do?

I know some middle eastern stores sometimes carry them, but does anyone know of a specific one? Looking for some frozen tart cherries and as far as I see normal grocery stores don't carry them.

DIY Christmas lights, or hire a pro?

First time living in a place where we can decorate...is it worth it to buy everything ourselves (ladder, clips, lights, wire, extension cords, timers...no idea what else is needed) or hire a pro who brings all that stuff? (small/skinny 3-story townhouse/condo, front only since it is attached to townhomes on either side). Any company recs? Thanks for helping us figure out our holiday cheer!

Interest in Survival Gardening Tutorial?

Times are uncertain and food prices are high, which is the perfect time to start a low-maintenance vegetable garden. As a disabled homebody with around 2 decades experience growing veg, I've been thinking of starting a group to teach how to start and maintain a garden with the lowest effort possible--something which has been vital given mobility issues and loss of income. I can't claim being an expert, but I've started a number of gardens from scratch over the years and have done a lot of research and would like to share. Was thinking meeting could happen at Beaverton library. Winter is the perfect time to start preparing a space for a garden, especially if that space is currently occupied by grass lawn, so better now than never!

Would anyone in the Beaverton area be interested in this? Let me know! Also, please forgive any slow reply times :) be well out there, folks!

UPDATE: heck yeah! I was thinking there'd be crickets in this post's comments so I'm pleasantly surprised to see y'all! I'm gonna look at getting in contact with the library just to make sure of things and hopefully I'll have word on Monday or Tuesday about that! I'll post then and we can talk scheduling :)

Neighborhood suggestions

Hi everyone! I'm looking for neighborhood suggestions and also just feedback if I'm on the right track here to even move to Beaverton. Apologies if you get these often. I've been reading up on realtor blogs and articles online and browsing Zillow, but it's always helpful to talk to people who live there as well. Mimicking someone else's post below because I thought they organized it really well.

About Us:

We have one child on the way and plan to have a second. We also have two dogs and are huge dog people (don't worry we don't bring them to stores; I just want them to have a decent yard). I grew up in a suburb of Seattle, and I want to return to the PNW. The Seattle metro seems like it's sort of bursting at the seams, though, and I'm looking to move somewhere less overcrowded.

Culturally, I am hoping to live somewhere that isn't focused on status and prestige and where people don't brag about their jobs or wealth. We're not into driving brand name cars or wearing brand name clothes.

Generally looking for a community that is family-friendly and nature-loving, with good places to go for hikes and take the dogs on walks. We don't have to necessarily know our neighbors that well, but it'd be nice for there to be good community spaces.

My husband will be looking for an engineering job. I'm bringing mine with me and will work from home.

Budget:
Up to $1.5million, but will be most comfortable with something around $1-1.2million.

Priorities:

  1. Family-friendly. By this I mean culturally and things like parks and places to bring children. In regard to schools, we intend to enroll our children in Montessori school, but I've researched these options online and have been happy with what I've seen.
  2. House Features:

--Safe neighborhood to walk around. This includes crime, but also just sidewalks. I take our dogs on frequent walks, and where I live now a lot of neighborhoods don't have anywhere to walk.

--We're looking for at least 3,000sq ft, but ideally closer to 3,500-4,000 with 4+ bedrooms and a suitable home office for me.

--Decent-size yard for dogs and kids.

--At least 10 feet between our house and the neighbors' house.

Also appreciate any recommendations for real estate agents, pediatricians, or tips on the local housing market.

Let me know if I'm off base about this being a place to land that will match what I'm looking for.

Best biryani in Beaverton?

Looking for some flavorful, spicy, not too pricey biryani in the Beaverton area that has a take-out/delivery option. I used to order from Bollywood Bites, but ever since they closed I've been struggling to find a good replacement. Any suggestions? Massive bonus if the place has good saag paneer.

For those who are curious on what she looks like - Crazy/Deranged Orange Honda Fit lady

https://youtu.be/rqj-hmFkthI

Since she records all of us, felt the only appropriate thing was to share some fresh footage of the legend.

Some context:

Wife got back yesterday from some errands:

- W: Weirdest thing happened to me today. Was pulling in and a crazy lady was driving out through the one-way entrance, took the longest time to get out and when she finally crossed me she was filming me. I don't know why but I instinctively flipped her.

- Me: Weird, we have a dashcam, let me take a peek at what happened, you're probably overreacting.

* We watch the footage together *

- Me: Holy smokes, I have no idea who she is but I know exactly who she is.

Caught turning right on red, thinking about court, any advice?

We all know that notorious flash on Beaverton Hillsdale HW, where there is a Fred Myer on the right and bunch of food shops on the corners.

It was a red light and no sign for "no turn on right", there were cars on the right turning left so no passengers or upcoming traffic. A car in front of me turned right without stopping and so did I, the video shows the whole thing.

I know it's pretty set that I'm guilty for not stopping 5 seconds to turn right, the ticket is $265 and I believe this will be in my record and affects my insurance rate. I have a speeding ticket caught on camera(59 on 45) three years ago and that was the only record.

I'm thinking going to court and hopefully either get it reduced or even dismissed? Do I need a lawyer for that? Willing to pay for lawyer and the bill if this can go off record. Is it worth it? I see posts about going to court for police's ticket, is it harder if caught on camera?

Any advice is appreciated!

My wife wants to get her IUD removed, but she currently doesn’t have insurance. Not until next month. Where can she go get it removed, no issue with cost. I meant to say “Implant Birth control, but IUD”

Have you seen Phoenix?

Our friend has gone missing. Phoenix was last seen leaving work Thursday evening. Her truck was found at a trailhead, but we think it unlikely she left it there. Have you seen her or her dogs?

Trustworthy HVAC repairs?

My dad’s central heating/AC haven’t worked for 4-6 years and he has severe ADHD/PTSD (he’s a veteran) and is a hoarder so he won’t let anyone in. I’m at the point where I want to force the issue because it’s getting to the point where it’s freezing at night again and he’s been saying he’ll fix it every year with no progress.

Do any of you know of any reliable, trustworthy, hopefully not judgmental businesses that could fix his HVAC system? I’d of course pay for it, it’s just a matter of them having to walk through the house. I haven’t seen what it looks like inside for a while so I don’t know how bad the hoarding is now. He seems to think the issue is in the thermostat.

Christmas Carols - Otter Lane - Friday 12/13

There is a group of my friends going caroling on Friday, December 13 along Otter Lane in Beaverton.

First, we are meeting at White Oak Taphouse at 6 pm for beer. They encourage outside food as long as you are getting also a beer there. It's in the Murray Hill Marketplace where Safeway is. You could also go to another nearby place and then meet for caroling.

White Oak Taphouse:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/7H3bxmJ6PPvds5vP9

I'll have a linked Google doc with songs and lyrics.

At around 7 we will walk over to Otter Lane. So if you don't want beer first, just meet in front of the Taphouse at 7. Please wear reflective gear and lights for safely.

If you don't want to walk over to Otter Lane you could park on Davies and meet us on the way. It's a lot of fun for kids to see the lights too.

Maybe see you there!
