My DIY blend has a smell of oil

Hello, for few months now I'm doing batches of blends of about 10ml for testing and experimenting with different oils.

I usually add two or three drops of essential oil (sandalwood or mint or both).

For my last batch among all other oils I added 15% of sunflower oil (about 1.5ml). After a few days of using this blend I feel there is a smell of sunflower oil in the blend.

I never used so much sunflower oil before. I have added before some but it was below 5%.

Have anyone experienced something like this? Is it common for sunflower oil to have so much strong scent? Is there a problem with something else? Any advice will be appreciated Thank you.

Looking for sweeter scented oil

I’ve read a bunch of reviews here about fable who are what seem to be the larger of most companies with sweeter scent profiles. The reviews seem to be hit or miss with more misses. I ignored this and tried them with “the baker”. Not what I expected and smells very soapy.

While googling scents I came across www.mfbeards.com and I can’t find much on them. But the scents seem pretty solid. Has anyone tried them before or have feedback?

Oil Organizer or Display

I have tried scents from lots of different companies and have a pretty nice collection of oils and balms. My question is how do you guys organize your collections? I was thinking of a nice wall mount to display the variety or maybe on the inside of the closet door. Maybe

Any recommendations?

AI made me a beard oil

Hey

I am sharing a recipe that AI made me for fun because I was curious what it would say , and so , instead of you investing your oils to find out , I did it for you .

I started the prompt by expressing that I wanted it to create me a beard oil recipe of 20ML using Jojoba and ARGAN oil as my base and then went on to list a bunch of essential oils I have for the scent . I then proceeded to advise the AI that I wanted a sexy scent that was manly and could even be gourmand if it wanted to choose this direction or DNA for the scent profile .

here is the recipe it gave me

10 ML Jojoba oil
10 ML ARGAN oil

10 DROPS BERGAMOT
5 DROPS SANDALWOOD
5 DROPS VANILLA
3 DROPS CINNAMON
2 DROPS ROSEMARY
2 DROPS FRANKINCENSE
3 DROPS SWEET ORANGE

I have had this infusing for 72+ hours and while the cinnamon has calmed down a little , 3 drops was definitely too much , I would go with 1 drop if for some reason I wanted to work out this recipe to fine tune it .

As you can see , it started off pretty good and I thought maybe gourmand was the direction and then I started reading rosemary and such high drops of cinnamon with frankincense and thought , well , maybe not so much .

I can update if this really improves with age , so far its hard to tell because of how strong the cinnamon is . It sort of smells like a fizzy cola candy mixed with a jaw breaker or something or maybe even a nice oil you would rub on your wrists , not really the oil I expected but I did it for fun as I mention and hey , its still healthy for the beard .

I hope you enjoyed and if you have any recipe to share , feel free , throw it in the thread and maybe some of us have the oils to give it a try . I am looking to expand my resources for oils since I can't find as wide of a selection as I would like for a nice low price , might have to break the bank a little more .

Unscented CBD Recommendation

Can anybody recommend a brand that sells an unscented cbd oil? I had stocked up on some from fable a while ago but I can't find it anymore.

A little self promotion

Nytt partner, Steven and I, we produce our own unique beard oils. We've started selling them on Amazon and I'm wondering if there might be some people in this group interested in our oils.

Our company is called Cub and Otter and we are selling in Canada through Amazon.

We are gay men under the bear category and we have a bear theme to the design of our oils.

Making my own beard oil

Hello! So I've decided to make my own beard oil since most beard oils I've found don't have all ingredients I want and most of the time cost around 25$ for 30ml. My skin gets really dry and my beard hair breaks easily, so far I've decided to use Jojoba, Argan, Almond, Castor and Avocado oil. I want to know if there are other 'must have' oils or if these are the best ones. I'm also not sure about the mixing, do I just put equal parts of each oil into a new bottle and give it a good stir? Another thing I wanted to know is if beard conditioner helps a lot and if I should get one.

Anyone found any good sandalwood scents for making your own beard oil?

I absolutely love the sandalwood version of "Every Man Jack" beard oil, that you can find pretty much anywhere. However, I am not a fan of paying $10/oz when you look at the ingredients list and see that it's pretty much just cooking oil you can buy by the gallon at the grocery store.

So I've been experimenting with making my own beard oil, using different carrier oils and various sandalwood essentials oils from Amazon. However, none of them are even CLOSE to the "Every Man Jack" sandalwood smell. I haven't had any good results with sandalwood at all, and have started moving on to completely different scents like vanilla or peppermint instead.

People who make their own oils, have you found any brands of sandlewood essential oil that are actually good?

BEARD OIL NOT MIXING

I will keep this real short and sweet! I recently mixed up an even blend of JOJOBA OIL with ARGAN OIL and SWEET ALMOND OIL and then finished it off with some drops of sweet orange essential oil .

I used a syringe to suck up the oils and then 1 by 1 I ejected all of it into the bottle , at the end , I did a nice shake and let it sit .

I notice my oils did not mix , I had a layer of clear oil sitting on top and the bottom somehow became this creamy white conditioner looking substance .

I let the bottle sit for 5+ minutes in some pretty warm / hot water to see if this would help and it did not

for now , I have just been shaking the bottle , rubbing in my hand and applying , its fine , but , I would like to fix the issue in the spirit of learning and becoming much better at creating as well as trouble shooting my oils .

SO

my reddit friends , what gives?

EDIT: I am now adding the photos! Thanks for helping me through this

Summer beard oil idea

Ok so I want to give it a go at making my own beard oil after having tried at least a dozen different brands. What I want is something summery and boozy. My thought was fractioned coconut oil carrier, with Lime EO and Bay rum EO. Would that combination go well together or would the scents throw the nose a good old one two right in the Olfactories? Should I substitute the lime EO for Blood Orange EO?

New Product Offering

Beard oil brands are getting to be like podcasts, I know. It seems everybody's got one these days. But what I'm aiming to provide is way more than beard oil... beard oil just so happens to be my first product offering.

I founded my brand, Heartland Grooming Co., for two reasons:

#1. I'm tired of buying products full of preservatives and synthetic smells, colors and flavors, etc. I know in some cases those ingredients aren't always harmful to humans, but those ingredients aren't in there for my benefit. So, they don't need to be in or on my body.

#2. I love the Midwest. Strange reason to start a grooming brand, I know, but hear me out. The Midwest is full of rich culture, and I get a little offended when other regions dismiss us as "flyover states." And even more plentiful in the Midwest is our rich ingredients, a lot of which that are indigenous to the region, that provide tremendous benefits to our grooming habits.

Maybe I'm fighting a losing fight, but I aim to celebrate the culture of my region through products that represent our values, handcrafted with all-natural ingredients sourced directly from companies right here in the Midwest. It's probably a little corny, but the promise the company was built upon is that each product is made from the heartland.

So please, check out my first product, Rustic Pines.

Honest Amish Vs Goodfellow co?

Which do you prefer if you have tried both?

Honest amish was the 2nd oil i used and Goodfellow the 3d, (first being cremo), and i loved HA until i tried GF. The viscosity of GF feels like it lasts longer and makes my beard softer and more manageable, and when i use HA its much thinner. HA also leaves my face feeling moisturized all day, but my hairs feel more rough and coarse and sometimes my mustache hairs will have a “bent” appearance when i wake up causing me to have to trim them at the bent spot which in turn ends up causing me to have to shave it after a while bc it looks a mess. The reason for my post is i sometimes find that GF oil is inconsistent in quality. Sometimes the oil looks extremely darker than other bottles, so im led to believe the ratios are inconsistent, whereas HA gets a MUCH bigger bottle with better consistent quality.

Heavy Viscosity Beard Oil?

What are some of the heavier or thicker beard oils that are out there today? Does anyone know if the heavier or thicker viscosity oils hydrate more or last longer during the day? Is it better to use a heavier oil or a medium viscosity oil twice a day? Any thoughts?

Fable Beard Oil Quality?

What is the general reputation on Fable oil quality? I’ve tried it and I thought the hydration lasted 5-7 hours and they do tell you to use twice a day, so it seemed like a decent oil. Lots of the guys I work with have a very opposite view and I’m interested in an outside opinion.

Sweet spot for carrier oils in a blend.

Whats the sweet spot in terms of the different types of carrier oils to have in your beard oil? I've seen some people use as little as 4 and others as many as 8. Does using more really increase its beneficial properties, or is it just over kill? Thank you in advance for the replies.

What do you guys think about olive oil?

So I like to use olive oil in my mix. The olive oil I use is organic and cold pressed and is sourced back in my hometown in Palestine. My family owns some trees when the olives are ready we get them ready and shipped here to the US. I like how it feels in my beard and made some blends for my close friends to try. But I read somethings online that some people don't prefer olive oil.

Fragrance question

If I'm making a beard oil with a 3% concentration of skin safe essential oils. In a 30ml bottle. How long should that scent typically last. Currently I'm experimenting with woodsy scents. For example sandalwood, cedarwood, and frakincense etc. Carrier oils I use are aloe vera, jojoba, olive oil, and sweet almond oil, and fractionated coconut oil.

Never gotten beard oil, what should I go for?

So I have a pretty scraggly beard, short-medium length beard that's not as thick as I'd like. I'm looking for something that will promote growth, make it look thicker, and be able to style it. I've also heard some beard oils are good for oily skin, which I have. What do you guys recommend?
