I haven't been to Baja in 20 years but recently bought a rundown fixer in Eldorado Ranch. I've got to meet my lawyer at the Notaria Cinco in Mexicali on Pje Celaya on an upcoming weekday at 10 AM to sign documents. What is the smartest way to do this: come over that morning, get my FMM and then look for parking or arrive the afternoon before and get a hotel nearby? I'm unfamiliar with Mexicali and don't want to be late. If a hotel in Mexicali is the preferred option, any recommendations?
When I finish, I will go down to San Felipe for a few days to check it out. Any recommendations for reasonable accomodations? I'm one of those who used to buy Sanborn's Insurance at the border but I'm sure things have changed. What Mexican Insurance company is good? Thanks in advance! Pete

Hi there! Does anyone have experience with whale tours out of Magdalena Bay? Can you touch the whales, similar to Guerrero negro? Any company recommendations and what prices? Thanks!!
Do you have someone in your family who loves gardening? Here's a cool gift idea I came across. Bonus points if they watch the TV show Alone because it was created by Nicole who's been on the show twice (if you haven't seen the show you should give it a try, it's an interesting concept).
It's a gardening kit with seeds for 10 different plants that can be used to make various herbal remedies. It also comes with a book written by Nicole where she goes over everything you can make with the plants from ointments and teas all the way to essential oils and infusions. It's not something you'd find in a normal store so it makes for a unique gift especially if the person you're buying it for is a fan of natural remedies.
I ordered a kit for my Mom's birthday earlier in the year and she was a massive fan of it. She now makes her grandkids sleepy tea before bed whenever they sleep over and always offers us some substance she makes from the feverfew if we complain about a headache. I think she's probably made every recipe in the book and it's only been 9 months.
Here's the link to the website if you want to check it out: https://medicinalkit.com/
I’m planning to start a Baja drive on Christmas Day and cross into Mexico via the Mexicali-Calexico border. Are the border crossing stations open on Christmas Day? I assume they are, but I haven’t been able to find confirmation of holiday hours online. I want to avoid getting stuck in the desert unable to cross.
Additionally, does anyone know the typical wait times for crossing into Mexico at the Mexicali-Calexico stations?
Lastly, are SENTRI lanes available when crossing into Mexico, or are they only for returning to the U.S.? I have Global Entry but understand that it, along with SENTRI, might not apply to southbound crossings. Any clarification on this would be helpful.
Thanks in advance for any insight!
I'm driving down into BC, and am looking for somewhere to post up for 3 weeks where I can learn to surf, and do some writing on my laptop. I'd rather steer clear of the super busy areas (I've gathered that ensenada isn't great), but I also don't want to go TOOO far south, since I'm driving, and will need to venture back into the USA at a few points to pick up some friends.
Where would be a good place to do this?
We’re looking for quieter beach town near La Paz to travel to with our 3 kiddos ages 6, 8, and 11. We’re hoping to travel the first week of January.
Ideally, we’re looking for a place with a nice beach and a few shops and restaurants that are walkable, though we will have a car.
Any suggestions are welcome. Also, safety is a big concern for us with the kiddos. This will be our first trip to Mexico as a family, but we’re all pretty experienced travelers as a family.
Ensenada.
¿Me equivoco?
Y, En Ingles...
Hi, I am trying to plan a trip on my own - with my small dog - to rest and deal with some serious health issues. I love Mexico, but I want to avoid the places that get very busy with tourists. I need something quiet, close to the ocean so I can swim (it helps with pain), walk my pup, and which is peaceful and safe. I may go to see doctors in Mexico City to get some assessments done, and need to be able to get to a nearby airport for that. I am looking at La Paz, for a first time visit, or possibly someplace (e.g., El Cuyo or inland in Merida or Valladolid) in the Yucatan. But I have had 2 people tell me "don't go to Baja Cali!" including the nurse today at a doctor's appointment. They all talk about crime and the cartels. I thought the area around La Paz or Cabo was safe though. Am I wrong? Also, while I have been to the Yucatan and loved it, I want to try a new place.
I need rest now, but am also looking for a place where I may be able to live full time and work part time writing or at least to go in the winters each year as it is always dark and very cold (-30/40 C) where I live and increasingly I find I can't cope without the sun.
So, I am wondering which is a good area to go and explore this winter (I may try for both)? Is La Paz and the area around it (e.g., Cabo) safe or are there real risks? On my government Website, it says "exercise a high degree of caution" although they do NOT mention La Paz at all. It is mostly for other areas where there have been problems. I don't want to cancel a trip to a place I may really love, because of this...unless the risk is real. I also want to explore, have quiet, meet some new people (I speak Spanish), go to some Mexican Museums, cultural events, etc. and hopefully make a couple of friends - to stay in touch. Ultimately, I want to find a place where I feel at home and can look forward to coming back for long stays. I am looking at a bunch of places, and cost is a challenge in some, but La Paz looks like a place that is affordable for me (I don't need a big "rich" place, but I am looking for a nice small house or apartment).
Anyway, thank you so much in advance. English version follows (please forgive errors in Spanish. I did use Google to help me as I am much better at verbal Spanish...so hopefully it is all clear :)
Thank you for any help :)
I’m staying in BCS and am looking for suggestions for relatively affordable places to live, possibly near a beach where I could learn to surf. Never surfed before but would love to be within walking distance of somewhere I could practice/get lessons. For context I’m mid-20s.
Was considering Todos Santos but was having trouble finding cheap-ish places by Los Cerritos, and La Paz doesn’t seem to have surfing spots nearby. If walkable surfing isn’t an option, I’d consider just somewhere fun for mid-20s people.
Gracias!
Spending the next 4 weeks around La Paz and south area (all the way to Cabo and east cape). Looking to do a guided day. Avid fishermen, fishing everyday on my own from my kayak. I’ve caught lots of trigger fish, jacks, small rooster, etc. Looking to go further than I can in my kayak, thinking I’d still like to target near coastal species and be a bit active but also fine with trolling. Maybe dorado, wahoo, etc.
Any recommendations on good locations this time of year and guides? Thanks!
Hola! Siempre he tenido curiosidad por probar auténtica comida china.
Hello all,
I am looking at taking a family trip to La Paz. I would be traveling with my very picky 5-year-old who basically only wants PBJs and Mac and cheese. I know I can bring our own or possibly grab some at a grocery, but out of curiosity, are there American-style kids menu items available at any restaurants in La Paz?
Much as I want to expose my child to new things, this has been a long battle for us at home (we're seeking occupational therapy for it) and I know he's more likely to just refuse to eat than to try something unfamiliar.
Looking for volunteer opportunities in SJD. Going to be there for a couple of months starting in January and would like to help out if possible. Would prefer something environmental/nature driven but am open to any and all recommendations 🤙
A lot of hotels are fully booked around 2025.03.21.
I tried to search for possible events but didn't see any that lined up well. Bike race, lunar eclipse.
Is there an event drawing more tourists than usual?

Our friends have a casita just south of Rosarito (US citizens renting the land) and we go down to use it occasionally. We have never gotten an FMM for our weekend trips down. However I’m seeing more posts about needing one with the change in leadership in my Baja FB groups (although these are mostly people going down to La Paz/Cabo). Anyone who goes over regularly have any insight on if we need to stop and get one stamped when crossing at SY? Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know if you can buy honey from ants in Cabo?

Sorry for the strange/gross question. My body is dealing with a serious parasitic worm infection and I can't access the care or medication to treat it in my area- it's not available here.
I know there are different types of medication just like there are different types of worms that can infect a person, and I can share more details if anyone needs me to, but I just need to know if any of that class of medication is available either over the counter or at a walk-in center. Thanks for any answer you can give.
Hi, a couple freinds and I are about a week and a half away from doing a road trip from san Felipe to Cabo and back. Plan is to do this over 3 weeks. I have a few questions, hoping yu all may be able to answer.
Will there be opportunities to rend Kayaks along the way? Want to get out on the ocean to explore some of the bays along the way.
ATMS: between SF and Cabo. What is the likihood of finding any once we are south of San Felipe
We are planning to camp here and there. I was thinking about a frien's experinece getting extorted by police for having a swiss army knife in his truck. If we are bring pots and pans and cuttlery, is that going to be an issue f we get pulled over?
Any must see towns or excursions??
Thanks
