Is it smart to put used engines since my engine failed as i love my n55 in my 640i and want to keep it and be cost effective at the same time? if so where to find good used engines and be aware of not scams as i suck at these. im in ontario but willing to drive anywhere in north america.

After every oil change, I hang my oil jug upside down; draining the residual oil into a catch jug. I have 5 qts of a mix of: 0w-12, 0w-20, 0w-30, 0w-40.

Should I do an oil change on my car with it? I have an 03 lexus 6 cyl with 120k miles.

Car over heated and I got codes: 002DED DME: Power management, closed-circuit current violation 002E81 DME: Electrical coolant pump, speed deviation 002E82 DME: Electric coolant pump, cutoff 002E84 BSD, message; electric coolant pump: Missing

I thought at first that I need to replace the water pump and thermostat but before I go ahead and do that I wanted to nail down that they are really the issue not some fuse, etc. So, I cleared the codes and tried to run the coolant bleeding procedure but nothing happened.

I checked the fuse box in the glove box compartment red are the ones reading 0 V and Blue are reading ~12 V.

Are any of the red fuses crucial to the water pump? Also, am I missing any important fuses?

Just looking for some advice on what next steps should I take to diagnose the car before replacing pump and coolant. Appreciate it!

My f22 2 series has the base model front bumper and i came across a deal for a m-sport bumper but is has the pdc option. Would this affect fitment in any way applying to a car not optioned with pdc

Hi everyone! i need some help with my 520i M52 E39. In the last couple of days i noticed a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust , but only when i'm idling , like at a stop sign. Nothing when i'm running. Engine runs smooth , oil and coolant levels are always the same after a month of daily driving. I also noticed that this occurs more during the night , with colder temperatures , and only after a few miles of driving. Also , nothing on cold starts. What should i check? Thanks for any help.

For E46, 330i was the highest trim besides the M3. For E90, it was a decently high trim right below the wildly fast 335i. However since F30, I feel like 330i became more and more diluted to the point where it is an economy car with 0 sportiness. Is this just because I live in the U.S. where 330i is the lowest trim for G20? Is 330i still considered a “driver’s car” or a sport oriented car in other countries with lower trims like the 318i / 320i ? I just came across a wild modded E46 330i this morning and wondered the whole day: “what happened to the 330i?”

Long story short my X5 sat at a Euro speciality shop for 2.5 weeks waiting for them to get a stripped oil drain bolt out. They called and said they needed to replace the oil pan. They then miraculously called at the end of the 2 weeks saying they got the bolt out and retapped with a larger bolt. Wonderful. They replaced with my new oil.

I go get the car and drive the 70 minutes home. Park it and an hour later have a puddle of oil under it. I tighten the bolt a quarter turn, clean it and wait. More oil. Finally got it to where it sat for 2 days and no leak. Yay! I leave for Thanksgiving, come back 5 days later and more oil. I ordered the time-sert replacement.

Now, I go to prep for the time-sert and fan replacement (another cluster). When I take the plate off the bottom, there’s oil on the exhaust and lower part of the oil pan. See video.

Hello - I have a 2019 440i that I bought in 2021. It has two keyfobs. The bad fob always throws the "Remote Control Battery Discharged" message regardless of the battery - I have a slew of batteries that work great in the other fob - and when I switch out the battery to the bad fob I get the error message - even with the default Varta battery. So I would have to assume that it's the bad fob not the battery I guess, right?

Regardless the car will start and unlock with the bad fob in the pocket just as if it were the good fob, regardless of battery - it just a) throws up that error and b) the physical buttons won't do anything. So it IS recognized.

It's always acted this way since I got the car- I thought I just bought a bad battery. Is there any step I'm missing - or is does this keyfob need to be replaced. I couldn't find a similar issue?

Hey everyone, my friend put the violet type of vw coolant that’s supposed to go in Volkswagen Audi in her 2016 BMW 328i GT X-drive. Wasn’t she supposed to use a blue BMW type coolant? Is having the pink cooling in there harmful? Should I recommend that she drain the whole system? Thanks in advance.

Feel like my lights aren’t bright enough and looked at the headlights and saw this left one doesn’t turn on. Is it always like that or does it need new bulbs?

I have a 2015 M235i

Short story is I had a CEL, I took it in for service at the dealership where they told me it was a cracked turbo inlet pipe and I authorized the repair. They replaced the inlet pipe, then said there’s still codes and are recommending I bend over and replace the turbo. They said something likely got sucked in and damaged the turbo due to the cracked inlet pipe.

Rough quote for oem turbo replacement is $8k

It sounds like the car still drives ok, but may have issues soon if I don’t replace the turbo.

Do I

• bend over and have the dealership replace the turbo for $8k
• take it to an indy shop for an oem replacement assuming they quote me less than $8k
• say fuck it all and go dinan big turbo and intercooler???

I got my 2017 340 at 78k miles, pcv was replaced, and after a while i started noticing that when im at idle for more than 5 minutes and i rev the car, a tint bit of smoke comes out and it doesnt smell like coolant or oil. Now im sitting at almost 101k miles and at every red light if i dont grandma pedal the car is lets out a decent amount of smoke and if i let it idle for 5 minutes and rev it, it looks like the amount of smoke that comes out when the pcv fails. I checked the pcv and it looks perfectly fine, no visible oil leaks, no high oil consumption. Its just the smoke and it only happens after idling so i assumed its my turbo but it smells nothing like burning oil ive been in many bmws old and new i know i wouldnt mistake the smell. Im looking to sell the car soon so I just want to know what it could be so i can get rid of it quickly

2012 550i is leaking a oil like it’s going out of style after an oil change. No I didn’t do it myself I travel frequently for work and went to a valvoline center. Am I crazy or does this look cross threaded? I took it back after I noticed the oil spots in my driveway and they said it all looked good. However my car was sitting on a flat surface and you can tell the fresh oil from the head in the picture. Thanks in advance!

When I cold start my car it will shoot up to 2k rpm when it first fires, but but immediately drops to normal rpm (about 1k) but then it will rough idle and die but if i hold the rpms up high enough for a few seconds it will idle fine, does anyone know what could cause this? I just put on a new alternator and battery, purge valve was done about 3-4 months ago

Can I use these snowchains with my 2017 bmw 330 Xi? When installed the chains seem awfully close if not rubbing with some rubber part right above the tire on the car body (sorry I’m a total noob). The tires on the car (225/50/ ZR 17) are not the recommended stock size (225/45/ R 18) which might be part of the problem(?). On googling I saw some post on one of the bimmerforums that mentioned something about changing the settings so that xdrive can adjust or something but it wasn’t very clear. So 1) Can I use snowchains and should I watch out for anything so that I don’t damage my car? 2) Do I need to change any car settings if I do manage to use snowchains? 3) If not snowchains are alternatives like snowsocks workable?

If I want a more efficient backup camera for my 09 x5 should the head unit be enough or a better camera or better both? Not trying to spend so much money on a truck so old .

Three of my door locks squeak on my three series when I hit the lock button or the car auto locks when in drive. I recorded it since it happened intermittently. The dealer was able to duplicate it and quoted me $3200 to fix it but stated the CPO warranty would not covered it as it’s technically not broken yet.

They have to be out of their mind?! She said I’d just have to wait until the door lock completely stops working before the warranty would cover it. What are your thoughts?

I only see them listed as being for the sedan or wagon, but the sites I look at them also say they will fit the coupe. The fact that just between the sedan and wagon there are different part numbers for the set scares me though, and makes me think it won’t fit. Any help?

In despair, don’t know what to think. My TD N47D20A in my 08 e92 320d is not warming up. Upper radiator hose gets to the point where it’s uncomfortable to touch but not burning. Hose leading to the TSTAT is stone cold, almost always. Coolant temp sensor reads 60-65° usually, when the car is pushed a bit harder, it reaches 70-72° Celsius. I live in Ireland, not a particularly cold climate. I have tested the coolant temp sensor, it works, I have also tested and changed the thermostat, which also works. It is also leaking a bit of coolant. I see minor Puddles of it under the car in the morning, although not anymore because the ground is always wet anyway. Could there be an air bubble in the engine so big that it would over cool it? I haven’t filled the coolant in about a week now. Tried a few mechanics and they said TSTAT and coolant temp sensor. Changed them, nothing changed.
