Commute to London

My partner and I have a baby due this year and we are looking to move out of London somewhere where we can afford a house. We have some family in Aylesbury so it could be an ideal place. I work 3 days a week in the office, how do people find commuting on the train from Aylesbury to London? Do you find it's expensive?

Apologies if this has been asked before!

Recommendations for places that delivery of some top quality hot healthy chicken soup/chicken noodle soup for some folks who are sick?

I'm not in the area and don't visit it enough to remember most places hence the query, dumb as it might sound. I know of a toddler, mother, and grandmother who are all suffering from flu, with the usual bad stomachs, snotfaces, lost voices, amped up on antibiotics, and so on. The mother is having a super shit time looking after everyone while being sick herself. I'd like to simply send them a nice meal, not super spicy because of the toddler, that will help them out and mean she won't have to worry about food for a few hours. I'm looking for recommendations. They are near Aylesbury Vale if that helps.

A small gesture I know, but I can't get there and other than advice I can't do much else. I've already organised an online big shop for them which includes ingredients for making their own soup but I'd like to also sort out at least one healthy meal for them.

What actually went wrong with the Kingsbury fountain?

I've not seen them on for a decade and have this idea in my head they were turned off because of ice etc. and they were a giant waste of money, but can't find any news articles etc.

People quick question: Is there anywhere in a town open gym? I mean the outside installation for exercise (not a gym club obviously). If anyone knows the locations of such a points, of they are on fields/in parks, I would really appreciate any listing of them in the comment section📱🤟🏻

Question about OLD Karate classes and locations in Aylesbury area

Hello, I have a bit of an odd question.

I am trying to track down an old Karate class that my sister and I used to attend as children. At the very least I'd like to identify which organisation ran that class. To help, here are the things I remember:

  • The class was held at what is now 'Reflexions Health & Leisure' in Watermead, Aylesbury, though I believe at the time it was called 'Harpers Fitness'. I could be wrong on the name, but I know it was at the location in Watermead.
  • The classes were held on Saturday's and were not run by the gym. They were run by someone else who I assume rented the hall space. I am fairly certain I started sometime around 1993/94 and continued training until 98/99. I admit I don't know when I actually started or finished, this is just an educated guess on my part.
  • I know the class ended up moving to the 9th Aylesbury Scout Hall on Oakfield Road (next door to Oakfield surgery) after the hall we used to practice in at the health club got converted into a swimming pool (I even looked at the Reflexions webpage about their swimming classes, and I recognized the hall immediately!)
  • I know that we needed to travel to Amersham for gradings. I've already looked up Karate classes in Amersham and reached out to the people running those classes to ask if they might know anything.
  • We wore a patch of the South Korean flag on our uniform. I'm fairly certain it was at the top of the left arm. I also know the uniform itself was called a "Dobok". These details strike me as important because Karate itself is more associated with Japan and Okinawa, and "Dobok" is the Korean name for the uniform (the Japanese would call it a "Karategi", "Keikogi" or "Dōgi")

If anyone remembers attending the same classes as me or knows someone else who did I would very much appreciate it

Championship playoff final?

Anyone planning to watch this in a pub on Monday? To my detriment, I’m a Villa supporter but couldn’t get tickets. Thought about finding a pub to watch the game.

Moving to Aylesbury for work - advice?

Hey guys! I'll be moving to Aylesbury for work somewhat soon and need some general advice:

  • When renting, what type of deposit is typical? One month + the month you're living there?

  • What are some things to do around town? I'm young-ish and wondering if there are any interesting bars around town. Having said that, anything non-alcohol related is also a welcome suggestion

  • Is the llama farm as amazing as tripadvisor makes it out to be?

  • What is life like overall?

I'm hoping to find something cheap, like a studio or small apartment, near the centre (I hate commuting).

I appreciate any advice you may have for a weary newcomer!

Anyone go to Stoke Mandeville Stadium?

I'm looking for a lifting buddy as I want to get into lifting and build myself up a bit (and lose some weight) but have no idea how to get one. Thought I'd ask here or see if anyone knows the best way to get one?

Dodgy Hawkslade man has returned

So, the Irish guy who was taking photos around my house is back. My neighbour got a video of him then when speaking to my wife, the guy literally pulled up outside my house and started taking photos of his silver BMW. My wife said, "you ok?" and he said, "Yeah, thanks, you?".. and carried on. The audacity! So I got his licence plate and passed it onto the police but they can't do anything. I have his face on video though so if anything happens to my house, I'll hunt him down. Just hate that my wife and baby are there. He's probably just taking photos of his car as he stated, but still...

Dodgy goings on around Hawkslade

Anyone live around the Hawkslade area? A neighbour informed me that a heavy set, Irish guy pulled up outside my house in a black pickup, walked up my path, then around the back of the house (I'm guessing on the outside of the wall rather than the inside), and began taking photos on his iPad, before then taking photos of my neighbour and her daughter. Bit concerned as apparently another neighbour confronted a couple of chaps with a red pickup around a private garage area who shouldn't be there.

Anyone else have any experiences like this. I'm beginning to feel like living here is a liability.

Traffic on a wednesday.

Anyone know why traffic is so horrendous on a Wednesday? It's like everyone in Aylesbury suddenly remembered they had to go to work.

Please vote in Reddit's own Model House of Commons general election!

#Link to voting thread

##Join the Liberal Democrats.

The MHoC (Model House of Commons), is a political role-play community and subreddit with almost 3,000 members. We are currently having a general election.

The Liberal Democrats of MHoC are a liberal, centrist and broad church political party, ranging from social-liberals to centrists to economic liberals. We stand for building a free and fair society, with opportunity for all.

We have already delivered a Digital Bill of Rights, putting an end to the Snooper's Charter issue, and have also extended same-sex marriage to Northern Ireland. We are legislating to deal with the issue of secularisation, as well as terrorism laws.

One of our proudest achievements has been reforming welfare, replacing the vast majority system with Basic Income. The Liberal Democrats are committed to this level of progressivism, and we will legislate like this in the next term.

Next term, we would like to pass our terrorism laws relaxation, which you can find here, devolve power to our Home Nations and also introduce the Federalisation of the United Kingdom.

But we need your help for this. Last time, we received 18/115 seats - an impressive feat. But this time around, the Parliament is more splintered, with extreme radicals on both the right and left. It is the Liberal Democrats which offer the pragmatic solution.

We'd really appreciate your vote, and it only takes a short moment. And if you're interested in joining the Liberal Democrats, sign up here. Thank you for your time.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment below.
