Calling all artists: fancy taking the piss out of Dutton?

We're PoorPeopleCo, an art collective, and we're putting together a group show called The Hairless Gimp: The Many Faces of Peter Dutton.

Itll be on before the election, and we're looking for artists, illustrators and general creatives who feels like roasting Dutton (aka No Frills Trump) and his whole potato-y vibe.

If this sounds like its up your alley, submit now via our website!

Or if you want to stay posted on details for the show, you can find us on instagram @poorpeopleco

Election Jobs (rant warning)

I have just knocked back the chance to work at a polling place in the next Federal election.

For one reason.

The security check is not done by the AEC, or even the Australian Federal Police. It is done by a multi-national company of debt collectors, amongst other things. The security checks on our election workers is being left in the hands of Equifax, disguised as company called Fit2Work. I wonder just how many potential government employees are being knocked back for reasons unrelated to the job, such as past debt issues or even, 'Horror', political affiliations past or present.

This is the sort of stuff the government should be doing for itself, not passing out to the lowest (or highest) bidder.

Australia’s relationship with the PRC

I just wanted to get a gauge on where people in this sub stand as far as the PRC and Australia-China relations. The US is once again showing itself to be a loose cannon and purely from a diplomatic position it cannot be relied open by Australia

Where does one go to understand Aussie politics?

I’m an Arab high schooler (in Victoria if that matters) who’s engaged in international and American politics via social media, history text/books and literature. I’ve been living in Australia for 7 (nearly 8) years and I barely understand any of the politics that goes on here. I don’t even know how the Australian government has responded to the issues in Palestine (it’s been my main focus since I’ve engaged in politics) aside from what the police did at the Melbourne protest last year.

I can’t find anything on social media outside of Reddit and one (maybe two) YouTube channels nor can I find any literature regarding Australian history or politics. Where do I even start?

What Are We Really Focusing On This Election?

I'm actually not of voting age this election but I still care deeply about politics, and I've been very tuned in to US politics for the past few months, but now that it's coming closer to our election, I've been starting to tune in here. What issues are we really looking at here? Because for me, my big issues are the war in Gaza (it's now over but how it WAS treated is still a big thing for me), transgender issues (as a trans person myself), the cost of living and housing crisis. So, while those are my main focuses, just to broaden my horizon, what other issues are big in this election?

How do we erode white supremacist soft power in Australia as quickly as possible? Seeing as Australia's white supremacists for some reason have more "soft power" than their oversea counterparts?

One method that white supremacy seems to rely to keep itself afoot is allying with conservatives from all other demographics and keeping them in power to ensure persons of colour are pacified and don't resist them.

This is what they've been doing to Asian Australians but so is the case for many others. It seems Australian white supremacists are somehow just better at soft power than their overseas counterparts or have more of it. What are all the reasons likely why?

White supremacists are the people who believe that white people are "superior" to others in Australia generally, this can extend to even Non-Anglos who try to imitate them. Any person considered "Caucasian passing" in Australia.

How long have people been taught that you will be respected and treated equal if you vote conservative and "work hard" or whatever, only to find you will not be treated as equals in Australia ever?

We need to unseat both the white supremacists and their conservative puppets within communities in one swing. The same way the Bolsheviks destroyed conservatism when they were young, elevated themselves to power without care and booted out the white supremacists in Mongolia as well as Russia.

This is why I think if we ever get another Vladimir Lenin or Bolshevik-like movement in the 21st century it would likely first begin among persons of colour who reject conservatism and boot it out of their communities then move on to take the fight to their white supremacist puppet masters.
