A collective subreddit for the three schools on the Auraria Campus.
Welcome to the subreddit for the Auraria Higher Education Center. The plan was to consolidate three downtown campuses onto one single campus to provide adequate space and options for low income and working people who still wished to earn a college degree. Directly from ahec.com, “a student theoretically could enter without a high school diploma at Community College of Denver, receive a four-year undergraduate degree from Metro State, and continue through a Masters and Ph.D. program at the University of Colorado Denver.” The campus opened in January of 1977 with a planned campus population of 25,000 by 1980. However, the first year brought in 27,000 students and current enrollment sits above 39,000 students. Today, students range in age from 16 to 80 with an average age of 26. Unlike most campuses, about 80% of the student population holds full or part time jobs.
Stats: Coming soon. AHEC stats page is being recompiled.

Found an Apple Watch on Sunday (6/26) on Auraria Campus near the light rail, it’s a series 7 and is locked, so I unfortunately can’t get any information about the owner from it. The Apple store won’t help to find its owner either.
So it’s my first semester at college and I’ve ran into so many Bible studies people it’s aggravating. They’re honestly so annoying and just today some Asian women came up to (barely understanding what she said) she went on to ramble about how my religion is wrong and Christ died on the cross blah blah, I hate it so much. Why be pushed about a religion I don’t want be involved with. I thought I came to school to study, not be bombarded by these Christ freaks.
No hate to people who are Christian, I just hate people who push their religions on other.

Hey everyone,
I’m looking to get into criminology and I was wondering which of these two colleges would be better for that. Also, if anyone reading this happens to have an even better college suggestion than these two for me, then please let me know! Preferably around Denver area. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Art supplies, pens, earbuds, batteries, phone chargers and cables, notebooks, paper, gifts, cards, pretty much anything that isn't a textbook is 90% off as they try to liquidate their remaining inventory before Barnes and Noble takes over. Come and get it while the gettin's good. Open 8 - 4:30 today and tomorrow, 8 - 3 Friday. This Friday is their last day of being open.
I have failed a pre requisite subject in my year 1 degree first semester. I need to retake the subject again. But, i need to take 5 subjects during next semester including this failed subject. From what i heard, there are two subjects that are very tough. I really scare i am going to fail other subjects again since i am a slow learner. Do uni allowed me to devide the six subjects into two semesters which means delay a semester before i proceed to year 2?
Pay or for free ;)?
A bit of a shy pooper here. Anyone know where some out of the way bathrooms are?
Last week I was approached in the Tivoli by a recruiter for Southwest Advantage, who started off the conversation saying he was doing a survey so I obliged. He asked me what I did last summer and what I was doing next summer, so I said I wasn’t sure but would probably work or find an internship. He seemed excited that I didn’t have an internship yet and told me to consider one with SwA, to which I responded that if I did an internship it’d be related to my major. He told me they take all majors and are the most popular company in the country for summer internships and that people that do their program make something like $6-9k in a summer on average.
All of this was sounding super familiar to me so I asked if those earnings were from working 60-80 hours a week on commission. He insisted that it depends on how hard you work and that the top earners make way more than that. He was being incredibly vague with all his answers and I asked him straight up if it was a sales job, to which he went “well, I guess you could say it’s sales, but...” I told him I wasn’t interested and he seemed upset but moved onto someone else after asking me if I’d been outside yet that day.
I immediately googled the company and saw that it was a multi-level marketing (see: pyramid scheme) company in which students go across the country to remote to sell books door to door for 80 hours a week. It had sounded familiar because three years ago at another school these recruiters had been coming to my classes to try to get us to come to their group “interviews”. I went to one and immediately had a bad feeling about it, which was validated when they finally came around to saying it was a sales job, but had forgotten about that whole thing until this guy last week.
TLDR don’t let the promises of huge earnings and whatever else they try to lure you in with get you. You’ll make more with a minimum wage job. Here’s a more detailed post on why it’s a scam.
Hey, potentially going to school at Denver MSU next year for grad school. My girlfriend who would not be a student would come with me. We're wanting to shoot for around 1500 a month, or lower if possible. Does anyone have any recommendations for housing in the area?
I know threads like these are generally frowned upon, but this sub hardly has anything on it so I don't think anyone will mind lol
Seriously, it's worse today than yesterday. Can't even ditch cause I've got exams today SMH
Hello fellow students and staff. I am looking to run a game of 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. If there is a pre-existing formal group or club please let me as I have not found it. If not msg me for more details.
I'm starting at CCD hopefully this summer, maybe this fall. I'm just entering a period of transitional-but-fairly-stable housing after a long period of homelessness; my two dogs are doing great at adapting to our new stability and are improving well on their separation anxiety, but it's still a bit of a thing we're dealing with. I expect to put them in daycare down near campus whenever I have to go to class for more than a couple of hours.
However, sometimes it could possibly be very useful for me to be able to stop by campus with them for short periods, if it's possible -- just like meeting up with people to study, or hanging out around campus to get work done in a familiar environment if I happen to be killing time downtown anyway, or running in for quick administrative errands.
So I was wondering what anyone might know about the social/official acceptability of leashed, well-behaved dogs around campus. Are there any buildings where they're allowed indoors? I assume not, and I'm planning for the scenario that this won't be an option, and I understand the reasoning if that's the case, but I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. :P I spent a little time unofficially auditing (read: sneaking into) classes at CU Boulder several years ago, and it seemed fairly standard there to see a dog in class with someone sometimes, but I know that's a totally different social and legislative environment, and it was a different time.
I've done some Googling and looked for information on the various college websites, but it's been hard to find a result that gives any clear answer to this question, so I'm hoping people familiar with the campus might be able to help out.
Thanks!
I live in Oklahoma now but I'm moving to Denver soon to go to MSU. Pretty much just need a minimum wage job working 25-30 a week to afford rent and other living costs. Been applying to different places downtown on 16th street mall that have applications up on their website, but haven't heard anything back yet. I have a lot of experience in phone repair and customer service. Any tips or places I should look at for finding a job downtown?
Campus is closed tomorrow due to the blizzard! Just posting this Incase people don’t check their emails
Anyone know any good study spots on or around campus that have good Wi-Fi. The wifi in the library is basically unusable for most of the day and it can be quite loud.
For those of you who don’t check your email, Campus closed at 4 PM today
So on Wednesdays I have a pretty huge gap between my CCD class and ACC class. Any recs for food?
Do we have to scan our college passes every time we use the light rail or does it count for the rest of the day? I don’t use the bus, just the train and only to and from CCD in the morning.
Hey there, I enrolled in my first semester last year and during one of the weeks there were a bunch of tables from different organizations and groups. Does anyone know if in this upcoming semester will they have this event again and if so, how do I get a table to represent the group I'm a part of?
I can't seem to find too much information on this program other than what's on the website, anyone in it? How is it? It seems to be a cross between a Engineering program and a Tech trade. I'd go in with a focus on Mechanical engineering technology. Thanks!
Hey all I'm looking for affordable housing near the Auraria Campus. I'm starting at MSU in January but would most likely be moving to the area in the summer. Does anyone have any suggestions for housing? I will most likely have at least one roommate. Also, I'm not interested in most of the student housing as I'm 21 and looking for more of an apartment/adult setting. Thanks!
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to get into computer science / video game design / video game development, and I was wondering which of these two colleges would be better for that. I also am looking to take as many classes online (all if possible) as possible, and was wondering which of these two colleges have better online classes / teachers. Also, if anyone reading this happens to have an even better college suggestion than these two for me, then please let me know! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hey all. I am looking for volunteers to attend three therapy sessions over the course of two weekends in June. A couple of volunteers had emergencies and are no longer able to attend. The therapy would be facilitated by Masters level counseling students at the University of Northern Colorado Lowry campus. Due to the relatively short notice (must be booked within the next few days), travel, and time commitment, I am prepared to offer $30 in addition to the therapeutic services upon attendance of your third session to help with gas and other expenses.
The available 50 min time slots are 6/1 5pm-9pm, 6/2 9am-4pm, 6/3 9am-12pm, 6/8 5pm-9pm, 6/9 9am-4pm, and 6/10 9am-12pm. The sessions must be split up so that two sessions must be attended one weekend, and one session on another. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please respond here or PM me. I am more than happy to answer any questions.
Please only volunteer if you are able to make a firm commitment for both weekends. If you are already attending counseling, an email may need required from your therapist verifying that this experience would not interfere with your treatment.
Thank you!
Is anyone here a computer science major at Metro or CU Denver? I'm trying to decide between the two and was wondering if anyone could tell me about their experience. Thanks!
