I created a community for an Audible book club. You can find the new sub at: https://www.reddit.com/r/AudibleBookClub/
I have the first book for discussion chosen already. We'll be discussing a book from the US Plus catalog called The Dead Drink First, a story I chose because of Memorial Day later in the month. I hope you'll join me.
In the future, we'll do a vote to choose the book.
So I'm looking to listen to the odyssey and have found out there are many different version on Audible so I wanted to see what the consensus for the beat reading of it is
SciFi/Short Story - This Long Vigil - "After 25 years serving as the human Monitor of the Interstellar Ark, Hermes, Orion is scheduled to be placed back into hibernation with the other crewmembers." I really enjoyed this story. Narrated by Ray Porter. Very touching. HIghly recommended.
SciFi/Short Story - Would You Like to Choose the Race? - "Henry and Nomi are thrilled to find out they’re going to be parents. There is so much to think about, so many decisions they’ll need to make... But there’s one decision they never would have imagined facing, and even considering the choice is a minefield of emotions and experiences and expectations. " Not great, but an interesting story.
Fantasy/Romance/Novella - Once More Upon a Time - "Once upon a Time, there was a king and queen in a land called Love's Keep who once loved one another, but alas, no more. Without love, they were doomed to be ousted from their kingdom at the end of a year and a day. A year and a day passed. This is where their story starts." This is in the true tradition of fairy tales, and it's very nicely done. Definitely worth a listen if you are a fairy tale fan.
Suspense/Adventure/Short Story - Buried Treasures - "Robert Hamilton is a young man on a mission to marry Ellen, a beautiful young lady who is unattainable to him due to his lack of resources and means of providing. Robert soon enlists the help of his friend Tom to seek out a long known of buried treasure in hopes that he can attain the means by which to support the woman he loves." Written by Bram Stoker (author of Dracula). I'm not always a fan of his short stories (and there are a lot in the Plus catalog right now), but this one was pretty good. The treasure isn't really buried. It's in a shipwreck in shallow water, and he has to free dive in order to get the treasure.
Paranormal?/Short story - Casting the Runes - "The tale of a man who unwittingly angers a sorcerer, who is assumed by some Monty scholars to be based on the self-styled 'Great Beast,' occultist Aleister Crowley." Authored by MR James, who writes great ghost stories, and narrated by David Suchet (Poirot), this is a fascinating slow burn. Very enjoyable.
SciFi/Novella - Exit Strategy - Book 4 of the Murderbot Diaries. If you haven't already tried Murderbot, please ignore the off-putting name and try them out. They are great fun, and Kevin R. Free is a really enjoyable narrator. The droll sarcasm has convinced me that Wells is a writer I want to read more of.
Anyone else having problems loading up Audible? As soon as I click the app the image pops up, but then it just closes and it don't work. It has been an issue since the latest update.
It worked, and everything, but I can't get it to come back.
Help?
It was cheaper than three!
Title says it all, thanks in advance
I was listening to The Longest Winter by Alex Kershaw and it was included with audible plus. But today I noticed it’s locked (no longer included) and so I went to the title details to see if I can buy it or use one of my credits to get the book and there’s no option for that either. It’s fully gone. Which is a shame because it seemed like an interesting story and I really love the narrator Grover Gardner. So will it ever come back for purchase or anything?
World Book Day selections (Apr 22 - 30). This may be limited to US Prime subscribers. There are 8 options of various lengths and genres. Pick one for free, and (optionally) add the Audible narration for $2.
This is also how the monthly Kindle First Reads selections work (free Kindle book for Prime subscribers + $2 Audible narration).
When my Audible book finishes, it immediately starts again from the top. Not a new title, the one that just ended. How do I stop this? I'm listening on a Samsung phone running Android version 14.
I noticed there's a few Wizard of Oz complete collections, one narrated by Eric Vincent, one from a fuller cast of voice actors. One is 90 hours, the other 70 hours...
There's also versions that are just the individual books themselves.
Is there a consensus on the definitive version(s) to get?
I've been an Audible subscriber for many years, and today I found out I can actually return books I don't like. It so happens that in my recent 5 purchases, 3 of the books were terrible, so I returned them, 2 went through, and after that, I got banned. I think Audible should make it clear what the policy is and not put the user in the position of being banned. I have lost more credits by expiration in these many years, and Audible was "kind" enough not to limit that part.... what do you think?
BTW, I love Audible and not threatening cancelation or anything like that, but it left a bitter taste to be banned forever.
There are 13 different books.
For the past few days, every time I open the app, my place is reset to the beginning of the book. It’s not specific to one title and I haven’t added another user or changed how I’m using audible in an way. Hopefully it is just a glitch that will be patched soon. It’s difficult to get used to always leaving a bookmark.
This will be the first time things in my library are ‘leaving’ and I want to make sure I understand.
I’m a longtime Kindle reader, and Prime Reading titles that are taken away from being choices, still remain in your library until you finish and return them.
With Audible Plus, if I am mid-book on May 3, do I have it until I finish it, or will it disappear from my library?
Lately, I’ve been having an issue where every time I close my app, the book I’m currently listening to reverts back to the beginning of the book. It’s been frustrating to have to keep track of where I was. Has anyone else had an issue with this? If you were able to resolve, how?
Sorry I’ve never posted here before so I’m not sure if this is something I’m allowed to put here, I am interested in getting my favourite Disney movies on audible to listen to at night instead of having the TV playing as I can’t sleep in silence but want to reduce my screen time (I’m autistic and Disney movies are my favourite to have on at night) but two disney books so far, Lilo and Stitch and I think Mulan was the other one, are ON audible, but as 15/16’ish minute long danish audio files. I can only understand english and the other movie books are 3 hours’ish each so I can’t imagine that’s even the full book. Is there a way to make it known that I want an english read to be uploaded? If so, how do I do that?
Thanks in advance!!
EDIT: I do mean book adaptations of the movies, not just listening to the movies themselves as that’s what I’ve been doing at night anyway, playing them on my TV but not looking at the screen, I appreciate someone letting me know I can play the movies audio on my phone without the screen being on though.
Hello everyone. I found a great soundscape to fall asleep to. I love the sample and want to buy the entire 10hrs file, but the app doesn't present me with the option to do it. The price is clearly listed as 1 credit with no option of buying with real £. I have credits available, but the button to buy the title is nowhere to be found. What can I do? I haven't seen anything like that on the app before. I don't know if I can post direct links as I don't want to do any unsolicited advertising, but if I can, I will.
There is youtube channel by the name of 'pursuit of wonder' and he has some of his books as audiobooks on audible but since i use audibleindia(IT SUCKS) it is not available in my region can somebody help with hiw i can access the audiobook
Is there anywhere one could go to see which audiobooks are exclusive to each marketplace?
Like for example until recently, the Stephen Fry versions of Harry Potter were not available in the US or Canada.
Is there somewhere that lists this sort of info?
Book that you hated and couldn’t even return it? 😂😭🤦🏾♂️
I was browsing for some books on Audible today and noticed that every single book in my preferred category was narrated by artificial intelligence. Now, I'm all for AI narration as an addition to the library, but this was overkill.
What's more, every one of these AI-narrated books was authored by the same person, 'Barrett Williams'. After a quick check, I found out that Mr. Williams has published over 3000 books on Audible, all of which are not only narrated by AI but also written by AI.
If Audible is ok with allowing bots to flood their platform with low-quality content this spells the end of audible as a reputable audiobook vendor I feel.
Would there be some big points which I would miss if I went for the shorter 3 hour adaptation?
The second most important aspect that makes me take upon a audiobook after plot, is the narrator(s). I have become obsessed with audiobooks and finally got into Audible coz of brilliant narrators like Julia Whelan, Ariel Blake, Kiiri Sandy. I would love to follow them on the app and get more into their upcoming performances. Currently, I can only follow authors.
Also realizing ri8 now, you can't follow translators either.
Do you guys follow the narrators in any other platforms?
Edit: spelling correction
Title says it all; traveling to UK soon. what happens to UK exclusive books I buy there when I'm back to US?
I downloaded the audible app, sign into it with my Amazon account and they text a verification to my phone. When I paste the code directly it says it’s invalid. It hasn’t expired and it’s correct. I cannot use the app because of this. I’m unable to find answers from my searches- so I’m wondering if anyone has any advice? As of now I can only use it on my laptop which isn’t exactly convenient.
Looking to check out one of the below Taylor audiobooks that are on sale. Never listened to any of his stories before, but I am familiar with Ray's narrating from House to House and Project Hail Mary.
The Singularity Trap or Roadkill. If you had to pick one, which one would you choose and why? Sell me on it.
Thank you in advance for your insight.
