Auburn Highschool Football game 9/13

Looks like we're finally going to have a home game with clear weather (unlike every home game last year).

But I heard from my student that ticket sales are now online only? Here's hoping we can still buy tickets "at the door".

Auburn road rage

I witnessed a road rage incident starting at the McDonald's across from the high school while i was driving a few cars behind. An obese white female (SHE WAS LARGE) pulled out into live traffic driving a blue sedan. She cut off multiple vehicles and when the vehicle that she cut off first a black sedan honked at her she slammed on the brakes stopping all traffic. When the driver behind her started to go around her because she refused to move she attempted to strike that vehicle and continued to yell obscenities at the black car. The black car then drove around and away from the blue driver and she continued to chase the other vehicle. They stopped at the intersection next to the Verizon and she pulled up next to the black car shouting at it. A very large man got out of the black car and approached to the passenger side door yelling back at her and she sped off crying as I pulled up behind them. 😂 Happened on 08/29/24

Independence Day celebration 6/28 5:00-9:30pm

I think the town celebration is fun. But I wish it was easier to find out WHEN it is! Burying it on AuburnMA.gov is not helpful.

Especially when there's a town Facebook page and a Department of Recreation & Culture page - this year's hasn't been mentioned on either one, and it's only 4 days away now. WHY don't they publicize this?

Power Rates

Was anybody else's power bill insanely high last month? I received no notification of any kind of rate change.

Is this 'Community Choice' power supply program cost increase as BS as it sounds?

The town has notified residents via US Mail, social media, and the town website of the upcoming increases in electricity costs for people who are participating in the 'Community Choice' program run by Dynegy Energy Services that the town enrolls everyone in (I believe) unless they specifically opt-out.

Residential rates for electric supply services are going from $0.11491 per kWh for National Grid supply customers, to $0.17860 per kWh for those who are enrolled with Dynegy.

From the above link to the town website:

IF YOU ARE A BASIC SERVICE CONSUMER WHO HAS BEEN MAILED A NOTIFICATION you do not need to take any action to participate. You will be automatically enrolled. If you do not wish to participate, please follow the instructions specified.

There's a disclaimer that savings are hopefully better over the life of the program, but savings over national grid cannot be guaranteed.

I understand that, but a current difference of around 50% higher price over plain natl grid because the town enrolled people in a must opt-out service?

I'm likely misunderstanding some key part of this, at least I hope I am. It will take a hell of a flip-flop in prices for the price Dynegy customers pay to even out with non-customers at this point, life of the program be damned.

Social media traffic apps & Auburn

I'm sure we've all noticed that the resumption of automobile traffic has made local highways as congested as before and sometimes worse.

With the regular weekend backups on 290 and the Mass Pike, apps like Waze and Google Maps are at times directing drivers off 290 at either Hope Ave. or Auburn St. and routing them through town to avoid the 290/Pike on-ramp gridlock and get onto the turnpike via North Oxford St./Auburn St./Bryn Mawr/Southbridge St.

The traffic on town roads during these times is noticeable. I've seen Oxford St. North backed up to about the skating rink a few times this summer. I've also seen Auburn St. backed up from the stop sign at the church down to Dooley's with a line of cars trying to turn left at that Oxford St. intersection. Not to mention Southbridge St. between the driving range and the Pike ramp, which isn't a walk in the park a lot of the time anyway.

I've heard about this phenomenon happening the past few years in places on the Cape and other popular travel destinations. It makes sense in a way that Auburn would be affected what with the highways etc. that traverse the town.

I guess I wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed it or been impacted? From what I've seen it's only been during high traffic times this summer, weekends, etc. I'm not all worked up about it or anything, but I do think it merits being aware of.

Thoughts?

Recycling in Auburn?

Hi. I'm new to town and have all the cardboard boxes from my moving that won't fit into my recycling bin. Is there a recycling center in town I can take the stuff to? Anything I should know about recycling here in town? Thanks.

Approx. 7% voter turnout in Auburn on Tuesday. I find that head-shakingly poor.

Local elections directly affect all of our lives.
