I just "finished" writing my final exam for MATH 216. I did an intro to statistics course at another university long ago, and got credit for it, but then because of delays in my life I had to pause doing classes over covid. Homeschooling 4 kids while working FT just didn't leave any room for school.
In that time, the university (Athabasca) decided not to honour the credit for that course.
So I'm a little annoyed to start with, but I'm good at math and I do stats in my career so it wasn't really a big deal.
Except I wrote my exam with proctorU, the only acceptable proctor, and got disconnected from their server. They delayed my exam for over an hour because they couldn't clearly see my video. I work remotely, so the issue isn't on my side. I have the strongest internet and my mesh is literally next to my computer.
They assured me that I wouldn't lose time on my exam, except I did. I lost over an hour! Like a third of my exam. So I failed it.
I know there's a supplemental exam, but I shouldnt have to take that. I should have had the opportunity to write my full final exam. I'm busy. I have 4 kids and a demanding job. I'm so over doing courses and this is one of my last 2. Finding 3 hours to write my exam is hard enough. I schedule them overnight and write them instead of sleeping because there is no other time. This is a huge inconvenience to me.
So I'm angry. So angry. And I really don't think I should have to pay ProctorU more money to write another exam that they messed up in the first place.
Thank you for reading my little rant. I had to vent and didn't know where else to do it.
What would you do in my position? Just suck it up and write a supplemental? Argue for transfer credit for the old course?
Can someone pls explain to me about the life sciences or health sciences degree from Athabasca university. Does this degree worth in order to apply to med school afterwards? Are we eligible to write MCAT or DAT after earning degree from this university?
How can I see what year standing I'm in on degreeworks?
Hi! I'm planning on taking CMIS 311. With the reviews I have seen so far it seems like a pretty straightforward course. I have experience in UX/UI design, so would that be helpful in completing this course, because I plan on completing it in a month.
does this university offer any cryptocurrency or blockchain courses?
Hi everyone, I am new to Athabasca and was hoping that I could get some advice as I got approved to challenge for credit COMM 243 and plan to be writing the exam in February.
Aside from key theories and concepts in interpersonal communication, is there anything else that I should be studying? How much studying time do you think is needed? and last question, Where can I obtain studying materials?
From my understanding, the exam is 3 hours (no multiple choices or fill-in-the-blanks type of questions). I need to use my time wisely when preparing as I’m employed full time and have 2 young children. Any help would be tremendously appreciated..
HAS ANYONE DONE THE CHEM 217 MIDTERM OR FINAL RECENTLY? HOW ARE THE EXAMS? ARE THEY ALL MC? OR A MIX OF MC AND SHORT ANSWER? I HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME WITH EXAMS AND WOULD LIKE SOME GUIDANCE...
I am allotting to grad school soon with due date of Feb 1st. I was just about to write my exams but my laptop broke with all of the work I did on the assignments, which need to be done before the exam, so I had to ultimately rebook the exam for about 10 days from now.
I’m now worried about being able to get my final grades/transcript in time for the grad school deadline. How long do final exam grades take to show up on transcript after all courses/exams are completed, in your experience? Should I be concerned?
Like the title says, I need a 200 level social science and I'm just looking around to see what people enjoyed taking. It's really just an elective for credits and there aren't any that I look at and think WOW! I'd really love to learn about that so I'm getting a feel for what other students are studying.
Has anyone taken MAIS 603 Community Development? How did you find the course? What did the online participation involve (group work? The usual forum post + 2-3 responses per unit? More?). Would this be a good course to attempt taking alongside another MAIS course? Or is the workload pretty intense.
Hi all,
I am a visiting student to AU, who, generally is a pretty solid student. But to be honest, I am a bit floored at some of the feedback I have received from the "tutors" here. I went into my final assignment being marked with 90's in an AU class, and then was given a 71 on my final paper. I had written several papers on a similar topic before, and was told that "this is what I expect of grad level papers" by profs at my home institution.
The long and short of it is, am I a good writer or so I suck? Considering I submitted my paper in September and JUST got my grade by mid November...be a bit kinder maybe? Also, none of my work was marked by the same person twice.
Blah
Hello everyone, I started classes on the first of October and have only done one assignment. I’m doing eng255, intro to human resource and industry relations. I’ve been overwhelmed with a fear of failing and decided to get my shit together this week. I know there’s a course timeline, will I get penalized for not following it? Also is it doable for me if I get cracking? I just really need some hope right now. Thanks in advance
Can I choose to take my exam from a location besides my own home? My house is super busy and I have cousins and family over for the month for holidays and really don't think I'll be able to write an exam from here. Is there an option to choose a location with an in person proctor
Hey!!
I am wanting to apply for my masters in counselling through athabasca but I have quite a few questions first and I would love as many opinions as possible. For background, I just recently graduated, I got my actual degree in December, but went to the June Convocation due to an extension that went into January for one class. I think I graduated with a 2.8 or a 3.0, I cannot remember, but I graduated on the Deans List for my school. I have over a year of work experience in group care as a child care worker and a team lead, and key worker for youth, and limited volunteer experience in a seniors home in my area. I am also applying to be a child intervention practitioner in the meantime as I know it may be challenging to get into a masters program first round.
My questions are:
1: How difficult do you think it would be to get in considering my experience and GPA
2: What kind of references do I need? As I can definitely provide work references, and potentially academic, just waiting to hear back from my professors- and what do these references look like so I can get what athabasca is looking for.
3: How intensive is this program in terms of still being able to work/ volunteer in some capacity?
Please be honest, because if the chances are slim I will go back to school to upgrade before applying. thank you in advance!!
Has anyone taken PSYC 389 and PSYC 345? Are these courses easy? How fast can I finish them realistically?
Has anybody taken this course recently? How was the final exam? Is it enough to do the study questions and definitions at the end of the study guide units? Thanks in advance!
Hi- has anyone applied for May 2025 acceptance? Let’s keep each other in the loop!
Hey everyone, I’m 25 and planning to apply to Athabasca University (AU) for my first degree—a Bachelor of Science with a major in Computing and Information Systems. I’d love to hear from anyone currently in this program or who has completed it. How are the courses? Are they well-structured and engaging? Is the degree valued, or has anyone had success transferring credits to other universities? Also, since AU is online-only, were there any challenges getting approved for a student loan? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated—thanks in advance!
Howdy, y'all!
I'm wondering if anyone has taken the final for this course and, if so, what you thought of it.
Hello,
Does anyone know what the midterm looks like for this course? I know it’s proctored and that’s about it!
TIA
Hello everyone I’m just here letting you know I’m under academic integrity investigation for the second time. When completing my last assignment in ENGL 255 I rushed it and I forgot to input direct quotations properly my tutor didn’t say anything to me other than asking if she could send my assignment back even though she could’ve just reverted it into a draft and make me resubmit. Instead she showed it to academic integrity staff and accused me of plagiarism and said I copied off of sources without telling me anything. I’ve gotten in trouble for academic offence before in another course but it was not for plagiarism it was for aiding another student. I don’t know what will happen now. Will I get expelled? They are still currently under investigation I’ve not been proven guilty yet. Please tell me what I should do now
Hey all, I'm currently in my second year of my Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting. Just wanted to get some input/advice from people who've been on the same path and managed to land internships as a student at Athabasca.
As far as I am aware, Athabasca does not provide any resources to help students land internships. So we're kind of on our own when it comes to that.
I've began applying to as many places as I could find in the last little while that have postings for internships and unfortunately have not heard back from any of them. If any of you are currently doing an internship or have done one in the past, what tips could you provide me in my pursuit of landing my own ? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Literally so sad right now. I wish proof of funding wasn’t due a month before courses start.
I was hoping to start the next round of courses November 1st, then osap wanted proof of progress so I finished my exams and sent it on Nov 1st.
So now the earliest I could start would be January, okay fine… except osap hasn’t reviewed my documents yet. I haven’t failed any classes, haven’t dropped below full time. But this review means I now have to wait. They have until literally Friday for the 4 week mark and for approval by Dec 1st for January Start.
But it’s looking like if they take their sweet time I might not get to start until February :( IF they get approved.
I was planning on using this money to help pay rent so now I’m feeling beyond stressed.
Wondering what I should do next time so there isn’t this huge delay. :( speed through the courses as fast as possible I guess 🤷🏻♀️
I am looking to take Taxx 401.
If anyone can share their experiences and/or resources I would be immensely grateful!
I have heard it is a very tough course.
This might be a dumb question, but I’m studying remotely and will be taking exams online. Do I need a student ID card or can I just show a government issued photo ID to prove my identity when it comes time to write exams? TIA!
I got an 89% (A) in a class and it already says submitted for approval, but every other class in my degree has been an A+ so I was wondering if anyone's had luck with having their grade bumped up by 1% to move up a letter grade before.
Just wondering if anyone knows Three classes u can get an A+ in relatively simply? If so, please let me know I would be very grateful. Thanks everyone
Hey, I'm just looking for any insight on what to focus on for this exam. Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you
Taking the final in a few days, any recommendations, what items should I study and review?
I’m looking to apply to a masters program and previously took a course at Athabasca in 2020. The course was (201 - cultural studies humanities course).
The admissions rep mentioned, I could use 2nd year courses taken in my last two years for admission, however, the Athabasca course legend says 100 - Preparatory, 200 - Junior, 300/400 - Senior. Could anyone advise, if the 200 level courses would be considered a 2nd year course.
I know at my main University, second level year courses, start with a 2, and third/fourth level courses start with 3 or 4. Please help :)
Also has anyone submitted transfer credits from Athabasca for a masters application. How was the process?
