/r/AtariVCS
Ordered the following last week to try it out since everyone here recommends it
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T17RQ87?th=1
Installed the ram and Did all the bios settings that ETAPRIME did on his video including running at 3200MHz
Powers on with High fan noise and that's all.
Any tips? TIA
I just want some recommendations because I know nothing about modifying stuff like this and I don't know what is compatible
What is your strategy? You not only need to keep it alive but keep the AtariOS experience going. What do you do going forward?

[ Kind of Confused How To Install Batocera Directly into the M.2 Drive ]
Anyone had any experience installing and using Bazzite, possibly with a dual boot setup keeping AtariOS?
Hi everyone, I know that these black Friday deals are going to attract a lot of new and inquisitive users, who want to join the VCS community but might not be expert computer nerds. Therefore I'm going to offer anyone who needs the newest firmware update on a USB drive for free. Yes I mean it, I will buy a cheap batch of thumb drives and format each one to give you n00bs a chance at at each one at allowing if you to joining he fun!
Episode 59 of the Weekend Report has been posted. https://youtu.be/a6YoEKIeN1o
I just purchased the all in bundle from Walmart, To be honest I am an old guy who remembers playing the old Atari games etc, I see all this information concerning adding all kinds of updates, memory, PC drives, I have no idea If I will need it and if I do I don't think I am capable to open unit and add chips etc, as well as whee to get them. I just want to play games and maybe ad newer ones such as recharged? or Atari 50 what ever they are. Is there a Page here with info to just turn the thing on and play without all the tech upgrades and jargon? Maybe I am just in over my old brain and need to return the console...
I've tried this on multiple TVs in my house with multiple HDMI cables. Same thing. It flashes the Atari Fuji logo, then disconnects and its as if no signal is coming through. It will display the boot menu when a USB drive (with the current OS) is inserted, and the BIOS flash and OS update screens are visible, but then after powering the system on and off again, same issue. Just to reiterate, it was behaving this way out of the box, long before I tires to update anything via USB. Any ideas, or do I have defective unit?
hello vcs people
I ordered the vcs bundle in that $80 walmart sale, I already have a few recharged games
and some indie games I got on steam which I would like to run on the vcs on windows.
I'm not really interested in upgrading the ram and adding a ssd, just want to
run the stock machine os, get some of the games I do not have there and also
run windows and batocera each on a seperate usb flash drive, and just do some light
gaming on windows and some light emulation on batocera.
I have a few questions to y'all about that :
1.)
anyone who went the same path - what is the performance just for light games on windows
(like recharged games) and light emulation (atari 2600-7800, nes, snes, genesis)
2.) after reading a lot in the group and in atariage I think this is what I need to do
to get it working
- first, disable the bios password and the secure boot
- then let the vcs update overnight and hopefully do not need to flash it (or flash if that does not work)
- already followed the doc about installing windows on flash drive, so just plug the drive and let windows finish installing.
Is this the best course of action ? is there anything else you would suggest ?
Thank you
A brand new game for the Atari VCS. Is it any good? You may need a coffee to watch this.
C’mon Atari! There are LOADS of new VCS owners out there after all the recent sales, please release the Wider World of Atari and The Console Wars Atari 50 DLC to us.
(And all those new games you’re releasing on EVERY OTHER platform)
Does the bios password Piano18482 still work? I booted into the Win11 installer and it doesnt like the partition on my SATA m.2 drive. The security policy is unhappy with the USB installer for Manjaro. Any help would be much appreciated. I am hoping to turn this into a cool low end computer for my sisters family. Win 11 is preferable to 10, but 10 is fine.
UPDATE: Solved. Used updated Password from the Comments. Disabled emmc from BIOS. Changed the TDP to 54watts. For now i have 2gb of VRAM, but will update to 32gb in a few days. Thanks for the prompt responsew. I will be interested to see how this thing does in windows and with emulation / low end PC gaming.
Walmart has it for 80.00 for onyx and 100 for walnut. Right now. Grabbed one
I know I can add up to 32gb of ram, but does it help the AtariOS mode or is it just for the PC OS side of the house? I noticed Yars Rising had some frame rate issues and wondered if I max out the ram if it'll do a bit better. Anyone know?
I'm interested in making my first game or two for the VCS. To any devs who debuted on the platform, is it worth it? How well did your games sell? I feel like releasing on bigger consoles like PS5 or Switch would give me a bigger potential audience, but I hear that often a game will do great on the VCS but flop everywhere else. Is this accurate?
Just ordered my VCS since the price dropped. I was bummed the PC Mode add-on is sold out at the moment. For those of you who have one, is the PC Mode USB worth it?
Missed the deal at Atari a few days ago, so just now I snatched title with free shipping here.
Was wondering if it can work with a single 16GB 3200 SODIMM as I have a spare one, otherwise I'll get another one just like the one I have but my guess is that 32GB is a bit overkill for how I plan to use it. At Atari they say to add memory in pairs but also Intel says that N100 is limited to 16GB and my Topton R1 Pro is running happily with 32GB...
I have been looking at them when they launched and never got one but with the price cut im thinking about it so convince me to get one here. only thing is there are no more usbs and i wanted to have a pc mode but do i need to have that usb to get pc mode or if i do can i get a regular usb and find it online and get the pc mode?
From what I can tell you can sorta just snap the SSD in , but you have to completely disassemble the device to add ram.
I'm planning on turning this into a SteamBox.
I connected mine to PC via BT, and in windows gamepad settings it seems to working fine and it was recongnized as a dial. However, for some reason, it does not seem to work in emulators such as retroarch for those SNK rotatory joystick games like Guerrlia War. In retroarch, the spinner works fine in input settings as axis, but in game, it just have no response no matter what I tried. Any one has experience using it in any emulators? Thanks.
Wondering if it will work
Would you guys consider the atari vcs all in bundle worth buying at this cheaper price? and if you guys do what do you guys recommend I do with it?
Isn't the Atari VSC the most powerful Atari console? And yet it is the cheapest one, that doesn't make sense. Why bother to get anything other than a VCS then?
