The last great classic Atari console.
The last great classic Atari console. Originally announced in May 1984, the 7800 ProSystem was the 8-bit replacement to the 5200 console. However, it wasn't launched until January 1986 in order to compete with the NES. It is also backwards compatible with the 2600 line of games and accessories.

I did the av mod for my 7800. It worked initially. Now no video is being generated. I redid the mod with new hardware and resistors and still no video is being generated. I can hear audio however.
What I’m confused about is that this worked briefly. I did the video mod first and checked to see if it worked. It did. I then did the audio and pokie install and then I saw no video but heard audio. I removed the audio mods and still no video. That’s when I made a second mod board with new components (I bought to kits) to see if something went wrong there. No luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I am just doing some basic research here. I want to make a retro game for fun, and the upcoming Gamestartion Go and the Atari 7800+ have caught my attention. Yet development information seems to be a bit limited for the whole of Atari, especially the Plus line of consoles, so if anyone can help answer these questions, that would be great.
1: Do games for the 7800+ need to be coded in Assuembaly? I read that the new consoles are practically ROM dumpers, so couldn't I just code the game in, say, C++ or build it with something like the NES Maker and compile it into a ROM rather than needing to learn Assuembaly?
2: Are there any softwares like NES Maker, GB Studio, or RPG Maker made for any Atari console? I haven't seen any, but I was wondering if one exists in obsurity due to Atari development being a bit of a neche thing up until now.
Hi, not sure if this has been asked beforez just got a 7800+ for Christmas, does anyone know if the 7800+ works with the 7800 GameDrive, Concerto or Harmony carts?
Has anyone tried to use it in the new system? Does it work with its special chip?
I realize the issues with Atari buying AtariAge, but who could have predicted the renaissance of interest in 7800 gaming with the 7800+ which looks so amazing on modern TVs? I am totally bummed out I didn’t get all those amazing cartridges with iffy license issues when I could have. Surely someone out there has a stash sitting in a basement they could sell? 😎
Hey, recently decided to get a 2600,5200,7800 for my and me to play. Pretty new to Atari stuff. I’m mainly a gamecube so I’m just looking for recommendations on games. He wanted them so I thought why not, but need games and any other recommended gear to go with them. Thanks you. :)
Was there a version of Star Raiders for the 7800, and how well did it work given the keyboard requirements?
She bought me this wonderful console for Christmas!
Does anyone know if the Starpath Supercharger works on the 7800+? Also, does it have the same problem accomodating IMagic 2600 games as the 7800 did?
Does anyone know which games used hi-res mode of the Atari 7800, since must games on the Atari 7800 used the lo-res mode?
DK Jr is in there real tight and I don't want to yank tthe whole thing apart...
I fiddled with the emulator's location and messed up its ability to play Scrapyard Dog. Does anyone here know how to undo what I did?
Recent life changes have made it so I don't get much time to game anymore. The 7800 was a console I decided I would shoot for a complete collection with because I had one when I was a kid. So, I have collected all but 6 titles. Now I offer them on ebay with other goodies I've acquired and a composite molded console.
Got my Atari 7800 about a decade ago and have been using the pro line joysticks that came with them everr since. However, I recently bought the European style CX78+ gamepads and they are literally a game changer!
Funny enough, I've found myself playing a lot of DigDug, which I found very difficult to do with the pro line joysticks. Dungeon crawlers and rouge-likes are also better in my opinion. The only game that isn't better is the Robotron 2084 like game T:me Salvo. There, twin sticks are the way to go.
I'm tempted now to look into other types of controllers, like the ones made by Edladdin, and sorry that I didn't buy homebrew controllers sooner.
What are your thoughts on all of this?
Hey folks!
Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. I know that you can play 2600 games on a 7800 but can you add 7800 games to a 2600 Unocart and play them on a 7800? The 7800 flashcarts are silly money and I have a 2600 Unocart so hoping for a quick win lol.
Thanks in advance!
I honestly never thought I’d have any real interest in playing Atari. That is, until I started learning about their fascinating history and came to understand the unique vibe of their games and consoles. I’m so excited to own this and have been having a great time exploring both the 7800 and 2600 libraries.
so i found that atari is still selling new games for 7800 but i want to know if this works only on the 7800 plus or if it works on original 7800?
I got a 7800 from my inlaw the video output didnt really work so i tried to switch out the video output to be composite. Im not the best at soldering and i following the steps as closely as i could but the video still isnt working (audio is great). I have tested 2 games and i get a faint image that appears to be scrolling on the CRT.
Can anyone help me with this?
here are the kits i used for the update/repair

Hiya - so, I was lucky to score an Atari 7800, and I know it plays all the 2600 games - but what games, out of the 7800's limited library should I get the most? I know I will get Hat Trick, Real Sports Baseball and any of the football games, if there are any, as a sports fan, though. Thanks.
