I love Atari and want to get the collections on my current gen consoles.
Which is better though?
Atari Flashback Classics - 3 pack series OR
Atari 50 Anniversary
I imagine that the games in teh flashback classics series is pretty much in the 50 collection.
I found a site which has a couple of Atari games you can play right in your browser. The site hosts a ton of games and about 5-6 of them are Atari classics (search for either "retro" or "atari" tags). Some games require membership and to get access to all the games, you need to be a member, but all the Atari games are free as far as I can tell.
Here is the link:

The wireless controllers lag pretty bad. I read that a direct connection from controller to the console helps. I can’t seem to find what exact cable I need to buy to connect the included controllers to the system. Anyone that can tell me? Thanks!
So I'm trying to identify a game my mate owned when I was young. The game was a side scroller, you played as a helicopter, you took off from a ship, I presume was an aircraft carrier, you could fly left or right or hover facing forward and go up and down. You would shoot stuff, then you would have to land back on the ship to refuel and re arm otherwise you would crash. I only ever remember it being at sea and the sea was a flat line.
Things I remember:
When
Mid to late 80's
System
99% sure it was on the Atari 2600. Though it could have been the 5200 or 7800
Graphics
8-bit graphics, course pixels I remember 2/3 colours max. Blue, black and possible white
Game most like From Googling the closest I've found was Chopper Command but this is set in a desert.
Sea Hawk also looks close but you play a plane in that one
Games its not
Sea Hawk
Choplifter
Cobra Command
Steel Talons
Super Huey UH-IX
Chopper Command
Other considerations
Is there a chance my memory is corrupted or I'm mixing two games up? Possibly
Is there a chance this game wasn't on the Atari? Yes, though not sure what else it would have been on at that time
Is it possible it was part of some multi-game 100 in 1 type of deals? Possibly
I did put this in the vcs section but no help..I finally received it from Atari after being sold out for so long.. the instructions still say it is plug and play.. but it is clearly not..people saying something about BIOS restrictions now.. I am not that tech savvy and do not own a PC .that is why I wanted this.. is it possible to still get this to work without a PC.. Atari has been no help and not even answering me on how to return it . Thank you in advance
The makers of Pixel Addict magazine are doing a limited edition Atari focused magazine. They need a minimum number of pre-orders before going to print and have a little over 400 to go at the time of this post. They're based in the UK but offer international shipping.
Check out the planned contents and place your pre-order here: https://www.pixel.addict.media/shop/atari-addict-magazine
I'm getting an Atari Flashback 12 Gold, which supports USB expansion via an OTG cable for roms with .a26 file extension.
Would love to try some of the modern indie creations for Atari. Would like to know what the best are and the proper place to download them.
I'm trying to decide between these two options.
I got the 50th anniversary collection on switch and I really love it. The TV filters and high-resolution scans of the original manuals are amazing. I also like how you can see the descriptions for each game mode as you cycle through them. But it doesnt have all the games I want, and the Paddle games feel impossible. So I'd love a more authentic experience with joysticks and paddles., and some of the games I'm missing.
The Flashback 12 Gold has abbreviated instruction manuals for the games (just text, not scans). It also offers support for connecting a USB drive with a dongle to play more games. It has an HDMI output. It seems like a great option.
But it might be cool to get the original hardware, get some of my favorite carts and a harmony cart for the bulk. Problem is, I will not be playing on a CRT. It will be on my main, modern, 50-inch tv. So I think I would prefer HDMI connectivity and access to CRT filters.
What do you guys think?
ok listen up my lil bits and bops Swat kats is a 90s cartoon where anthro cats fight Monsters and stuff like that out of world type of situation. Similar without being a cartoon but just a game Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy is somewhat the same just add wild cats you see in wild instead of house cats? Trevor Mcfur also fights asteroids and odd monsters. do you think both share the same world? 👾 🔫 😾
Got a bit of an issue I hope someone might know more about. I have a 7800 that I bought a new 3rd party PSU for. New PSU is getting a strong 9v so no issue there, but it's almost like the 7800 only wants to power on when it feels like it. Sometimes leaving it plugged in a while will get it to boot and sometimes nope. I've had it opened and cleaned it up, retouched solder, etc. When it comes on, works great! I've ordered a new power regulator which should be here today. Any other ideas?
Hey there! Been looking at different AV mod kits on ebay and am hoping to get some advice on which one ya'll recommend. No stranger to mods and I just want to add composite to the 7800 in the simplest, pre-made way possible. Thanks!
I wanted to know how to get stella for windows, for emulating homebrews. I got the the github page and I was wondering which link I go to from there
Do either of these collections have FRIENDS LIST based high score boards? Or perhaps Server Wide High Score boards?
I just sold my barely used XBox series X for a few reasons. One of them is that, despite buying their Atari 50, that XBox controller is useless for paddle games like Breakout or Tempest. Even joystick-oriented games are clunky and maybe laggy compared to what I remember when I had a 2600 decades ago. It’s the same experience I’ve had with Atari Golds, GSP, and any number of emulations. Perfectly reproduced, shitty controllers.
I really just want to play the old 2600 and am ready to purchase the newer Atari VCS (which noticeably doesn’t have a paddle controller) with that XBox money, but am afraid on that level that I’ll be frustrated again.
I wish Atari or someone else could have just produced a dedicated paddle controller console with all of those games (or the 360 for Indy-style…not worried about that keypad unless it throws in Intellivision stuff).
Am I about to get frustrated buying the VCS, or can it really play non-paddle games? Is there an alternative (short of building a Mame or buying an Arcade Legends (no room))?
Thanks.
Anyone selling an Atari 7800 compatible flash cart? The Game Drive is super expensive brand new though I'm not opposed to it. I figured I'd try here first for a Cuttle Cart 2/Concerto/used GD.
I’m trying to do a firmware update on my GSP but it always says “unknown device.” I’ve tried different usb ports on my pc and none have worked. I’ve watched YouTube videos on how to do it and I have the right usbc plug in to transfer data. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Has anyone that preordered this received anything? I think it's close to a year since I ordered mine.
I was looking at the Atari 7800 specs and I found out that someone was creating a XM module to give the 7800 new audio capabilities.
As far as I understood, it never came to fruition and there were a lot of problems/it was a scam. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I am wondering though if there is anything like it that expands the original audio of the 7800.
