Even though I don’t like Trump, undeniably I can say he has garnered enthusiasm and hype from supporters which we really haven’t seen from a party nominee on either side since Obama in 2008.
Do you think there’s going to be a rough time finding a candidate that can actually perform to that level when the 2028 election rolls around?
Just curious what your thoughts are on this?
I would like to listen to conversations where both people are on a level playing field intellectually. I see a lot of "Trump supporter gets owned", or 'liberal gets owned" and stuff like that. I'm not really interested in a professional debater having a conversation with a high school kid and trampling them, or daily show reports where they pick people out and make them look dumb. Videos where the whole point is to make one side look dumb I'm not really interested in and I feel like a whole point of those videos is to make other the left or the right in itself look down when there are intelligent people on both sides. I would like to see what you guys think is a fair conversation between two or more people with opposing opinions.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. This question has been in the back of my unconscious mind for quite some time. Trump has plans, Biden did. Everyone has or had plans to "boost" the economy, but can policies really change it? It seems like such a complex balancing act to decrease the funding of programs, but then UP manufacturing or increase jobs in other sectors in such a short period of time to actually make a difference. Trump has four more years. Basically, I'm going back the rudderless ship analogy. Things happen that tank our economy like covid or bolster it like the Internet in the 90's. In my opinion I don't think Biden had much control over lowering inflation.
So even with the best of intentions do you think a sitting president of either one administration or the other can really affect the economy?
Good morning, everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving!
This is my first post here because I’ve been thinking about this question for quite some time, and I’m happy to have found a place where I can respectfully ask it. I have chosen my flair to be undecided as I am a permanent resident and, therefore, do not have the ability to vote. I felt that this was the best selection for me.
To preface and explain my question: I have been in America since 2012, so this is the fourth election I’ve observed. My first three were in Nevada, and I currently reside in California. (I was actually lucky to attend the Presidential Debate in Las Vegas in 2016—just a little trivia!) This time around, I was surprised by the number of flags I’ve seen in support of Donald Trump displayed at businesses, houses, cars, etc. I don’t recall seeing this kind of display during the three other elections I experienced, whether in support of Democrats, Republicans, or any individual politician.
Does anyone who supports Donald Trump have any insight into why there seems to be an increased inclination to publicly display support for their preferred candidate? I’m interested in hearing from both people who support Donald Trump and chose not to display flags, as well as from those who did. Also, if you don't think that there was an increased amount, I am interested in hearing that, too!
Thank you for your insights, and I hope you have a great holiday!
Trump lays the entire blame for the drugs coming in from Mexico on Mexico (and/or China via Mexico). However, Mexico's President in a letter to Trump noted the following (translated)
On another note, and for humanitarian reasons, Mexico has consistently expressed its willingness to help prevent the fentanyl epidemic in the United States from continuing. This is, after all, a public health and consumption problem within your society.
Seventy percent of the illegal weapons seized from criminals in Mexico come from your country. We do not produce these weapons, nor do we consume synthetic drugs. Tragically, it is in our country that lives are lost to the violence resulting from meeting the drug demand in yours.
Based on this: https://newrepublic.com/post/188885/house-republicans-majority-historically-small
And this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_divisions_of_United_States_Congresses
and this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/72nd_United_States_Congress
Every indication is that the GOP control of the House will be the smallest since Herbert Hoover. It will be even smaller (temporarily) since
Gaetz won but indicated he will not take the seat
and 3) Elise Stefanik and Mike Waltz won but will (likely) be confirmed to Cabinet posts meaning they will only be seated for a few weeks (?)
Meaning 217-215 is a real possibility for the short term.
Given internal GOP strife in the past (see the musical chairs Speakership and other intra-party infighting) what can be expected with such a slim majority?
I find Trump supporters on Reddit to be a lot more rational and open to discussion. Honestly, I have a lot of respect for the way many people on here are open to conversation, even when we don't see eye to eye.
But when I look at Trump supporters on X, it's a whole different vibe. There's so much negativity and hate at times, and it feels like productive conversations just aren't possible there. Honestly, I think Democrats on X are the same and can be just as bad.
Have you noticed this difference too? Or am I just seeing a skewed sample of people on X?

This seems to be the only way to complete with foreign manufacturers/suppliers who rely on poor labor conditions / low pay / information theft / etc. unless the US worker would accept similar substandard working arrangements and massive pay / benefit cuts.
How much do you believe this quote about maga right and social justice left being similar in their ‘motivations’:
‘Whether you’re on the MAGA right or the social-justice left, people define their identity by how you stand against what you perceive to be the dominant structures of society….Today’s communal culture is based on a shared belief that society is broken, systems are rotten, the game is rigged, injustice prevails, and the elites are out to get us. We find solidarity and meaning in resisting their oppression.’
It’s from this longer article
What are the policy goals that you are most hopeful Trump will accomplish in his upcoming term?
l've talked with some people irl about it but l haven't seen much discussion online.
To me it seems pretty obvious Hezzbollah agreeing to a ceasefire is a direct consequence of Trump winning and the consequential fear of greater American support for the israeli war effort from the US (which is exactly the "peace through strength" Trump promised durring the campaign).
lf Biden were capable of brokering the deal on his own regardless l dont se why he wouldn't have gotten it penned before the election back when it could have been a HUGE boon for Kamala's campain going into election night.
lts like Reagan with the lranian hostages (and l also wonder if the Hamas hostages will be released soon for similar reasons...)
I know this is a hypothetical, and no TS probably believes he would ever try this. But it would help us to understand how you think of Trump and his role in America right now.
Suppose he wants to postpone the election due to some emergency (that is not notably different from our current situation). Or he starts to "joke" about deserving another term because the first term was robbed from him, and the jokes slowly become more serious and it crosses into a true proposal.
Whatever the mechanism, can you say, today, that you would personally be offended if any president, Trump included, tried to violate the 2-term limit, and would publicly reject such a president?
(And let's not be distracted from situations where some serious emergency is actually underway ... WW3 or country-wide terrorist attacks, etc. Just assume that things are more-or-less the same as today, not including all the improvements Trump implements during this term.)
I heard Stephen Miller on CSPAN last week and he said something to the effect of having a complete and total shutdown of the border. If the border is 100% sealed, how is that going to affect trade? Aren't a bunch of vehicles in the US using parts made or assembled in Mexico? Overall thoughts of doing that?
This was from February as I can't find the CSPAN time mark that I heard recently - https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/washington-secrets/2870904/stephen-miller-seal-the-border-deport-all-the-illegals/
If so, what does that mean to you?
Over the last year I've found myself spending more time on twitter. I've tried to largely focus on things related to my career field but I'm often inundated with political stuff and smut. As I read through many of the views and comments from accounts that support Trump, MAGA, the republican party...I often ask myself "Are these real people?" based on the lies, misinformation and hate speech.
Then I come to this subreddit. I don't read this subreddit daily but I can't really think of examples of hate speech, conspiracy theories, statements that are clearly factually wrong...There are disagreements but again it's not common to see opinion passed off as fact and I'd say it's rare for the name calling to happen.
Even in real life when I've come across Trump supporters 7/10 have been respectful to my face and probably half the time we can find common ground if we stay away from social issues. So this has me thinking twitter and other online spaces are largely filled with bots and propaganda farms.
I'd like to know how often most of you speak about your views in real life, especially with actual people who don't share all of your beliefs. Imaginary bonus points if you're willing to share how the conversations usually go
Edit I want to thank you guys for responding
Clarifying: I'm not interested in hearing about the justice you might want to see meted out against an individual, but instead I'd like to hear what sort of future that trump supporters want their left-voting countrymen to experience, with a key assumption that they are not converted to your side because that sidesteps the answer.
This question is mostly aimed at younger, male Trump supporters.
Young (18-29) women backed Harris by 18%, but young men backed Trump by 14%.
And this survey say that 55% of young women, and 76% of young college educated women, say they are less likely to date a Trump supporter.
And The Right Stuff Dating App failed to attract many female members.
When I look at the default reddit feed, I see popular posts like
[2XChromosomes] "Studies show most women don't want to date Trump voters"
[2XChromosomes] "Why don’t conservative men just go after conservative women? .... . I swear, every third guy who’s ever asked me out has been a hardline conservative, even though I very clearly don’t run in those circles."
[AskWomenNoCensor] "Are Trump supporters a dealbreaker?" (answers were generally yes)
I won't link to these subs, but these and others are easy to find.
So my questions are:
are you open about your politics when seeking dates? Or do you keep quiet, until the issue comes up?
How does dating app filtering affect you?
Are you as negative on liberal women as they are (or seem to be, from above) on Trump supporters?
if a women says she's a liberal, or anti-Trump, do you swipe-left? How about she says she actively dislikes conservatives or Trump supporters?
Have you seen your dating pool shrink?
What do you think will be the end game? Because one could just as well argue that there aren't enough liberal men for all those liberal women.
As someone who's regularly volunteered for welfare orgs and not-for-profits for about three decades now I've always been very enthusiastic and vocal in my support of volunteers.
I'm curious to know what types of organisations you regularly volunteer for, and what that volunteering looks like. Have you had any particular experiences from your time volunteering that you think are noteworthy, or that have significantly impacted your views on the world or your political outlook?
Would you have voted for him?
Inspired by Elon's open ended question. Don't want to add any color to sway answers. Just curious what Trump supporters response would be. Do you see the matrix?
Let me put this into a little context. Obviously, Thanksgiving is coming up shortly. I have a bird defrosting in a cooler and about to get brined up and then, hopefully, smoked. I love turkey, and I rarely get a chance to smoke a whole bird, so I'm pretty happy. I'm sure there will be lots of leftovers, but hey, that just means more food.
Thanksgiving is a pretty uniquely American thing, and I know there's a lot of garbage myths around it, but how do you guys celebrate? Do you have any favorite dishes or anything? Is there a sort of food that you enjoy more than others?
Growing up, Thanksgiving was a little bit annoying because we would drive to my grandparents' farm for all the "festivities." Depending on where we were living, that was a 5-8 hour drive (now, it's closer to 16 hours) and well, cramming the whole family into the minivan and heading out made for some very annoying car rides. Food was good, though! Now, my grandpa just turned 90 and my parents are heading up to his farm to celebrate with him, so I'm stuck down here cooking for everyone else.
I've never put a lot of thought into Thanksgiving outside of "I'm gonna eat a lot of turkey and maybe watch some football." Is there another meaning for you guys, gals, and anyone else?
Hi ATS,
What a wild election cycle it's been. Unfortunately, it looks like we'll have to keep the lights on for another four years. Please treat this as a normal meta thread. Feedback, compliments, complaints, suggestions, questions etc all welcome. Toxicity won't be tolerated.
I wanted to write up a bunch of thoughts, but they're a bit disorganized in my head at the moment. I might edit them into OP or post comments if any come to me.
If you're new, welcome. Happy to answer questions you may have. If you've been here for awhile, it has been and hopefully continues to be a mutual pleasure.

During his first term, he was campaigning frequently and holding rallies for almost the entire 4 years. Once he is in office again, do you expect this behavior to continue? If he can’t run again, why would he hold rallies any longer?
All his primary cabinet members have been named. Why do you think he backed out of his commitment?
