Been trying to upgrade my job title from Exec to either Senior Exec / AM via job hunt. But, I am also jobless since May 2024, so I am trying to apply jobs which state "Exec / Senior Exec", which I could have avoided if I am still working.
When I receive interviews, the hirers mentioned the title as "Exec" and I'm wondering if I am to be shortlisted, would they ever to upgrade to "Senior Exec"?
*Kind of feeling discouraged when the title of "Exec" is being mentioned as I have already worked more than 14 years as an Exec.
I went out without bringing my printed return label. Can singpost print return label for me? If not, is there any place near rochor for me to print return label?
I (30s, m) was quite surprised by a CNA Insider documentary on screen time usage for youths here. It seems to me that there is a difference in understanding between how adults perceive screen time for the youths and how youths themselves perceive screen time. I gather that the youths acknowledge a separation of their screen time into productive (study/homework) and social media doomscrolling, while the parents of 2 participants seem to treat it as a one-dimensional evil.
I am of the opinion that productive apps themselves don't lead to harm (perceived lack of attention, lower physical social etiquette, etc). For example I have Spotify for music when I work, e-book apps to read and Duolingo to learn which I truly believe enrich my life. Also work-related apps, usually for messaging. I'm sure the youths have study-related apps too. Yet when we unlock our phones initially with intention, then after it's often tempting to 'just check' social media to see what's up and one thing leads to another and doom scrolling happens.
Where and how do you draw the line when it comes to screen time? Which parts are bad and which parts are good?
Job salary in chemistry had been stagnant for the past 5 years for me, so I took up Computing and completed it while working. Don't ask me about it, I don't even remember how I passed my subjects.
After I finished the course last year, I took a break from work.
But now that I'm looking for work, I have a major dilemma. I probably had too much fun while being unemployed. My brain went blank and I forgot my skills.
I like working on instrumentation in the lab, and I haven't had an urge to focus on creating a coding portfolio. I like science for the fulfillment and coding for convenience, that's why I want to make them work together. I have plans to do Masters or PhD but I'm not sure what to take yet.
Anyway, any ideas where to get a good instrumentation training?
If you also have other advice, then I'm all ears.
Hi redditors. As you can see from the title, I've been offered a position in DBS bank as a CSO in call centre. I have never been in a banking industry before thus I'm contemplating whether if it is worth it.
The package is similar to my current sales job at a SME, but totally different industry.
Does anyone have experiences working in DBS or similar said roles before? I'm curious on the progression, maybe even future role changes within the company. Even if i were to leave in the future, whether if it'll impact my future CV having worked in DBS?
Please feel free to leave your comments or share your experiences! Perhaps even stories you've heard before.
*For context, I'm 25M and always been in the sales industry. Sales has always been sort of my passion.
hi i am going to travel to singapore in april. I would love to connect with a local to get some tips !

Hi, can a kind soul point me in the direction of where I can find help to wire my ethernet cable from the router in the living room to the PC in my bedroom? I don't have neither the skills/knowledge nor the time to do it myself hahah. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!!
Asking this as i am going into an IT course to people in the IT industry. I just want a good work life balance in the future and just have a life in the future. I kinda visualize IT industry as like sit infront of the computer all day do coding or designing websites. And honestly i dont wanna sit infront of computers doing robot stuff enslaving for my boss. I wanna explore the world too and do what i enjoy honestly, but also with decent income.
Guys honestly idk if IT is my type lol it just seemed like my type. I am interested in history/ geography and whatever local/global happenings around me like politics lol 🤷🏻♂️ though cybersecruity seems fun where i'd be demolishing some russian hackers
I came from a pretty normal sec school but get to join a top JC after O levels, I didn't wanna tell anyone for fear of being awkward or compared especially during CNY.. i just wanna keep a low profile...how to answer people from now without answering them? #jc2025
Office job, doing part time degree, having hobbies but I don't look forward to hobbies or my studies after work. Something is wrong with me. Doesnt help to have toxic colleagues at the same time.
What makes you happy in you case ?
Hi fellow SG redditors. I’m interested to fully pivot into IT. Is there any programmes that I should look out for?
Background: 26M, PR and currently working as a business analyst. Well-verse in Excel and Pbi.
I’m looking for more challenging jobs in SG. Highly interested in product building (GovTech) but my surveyor degree doesnt allow me to pivot directly :(
I want my salary to be competent as well - I’m a workaholic basically but I want my work to be interesting…. I basically learn excel from scratch for my current job 2 yrs ago and now I’m able to give training to others. Quite confident to learn other languages if that is required.
Would appreciate if the senpais here can provide some advices. I just realised that I’m being paid slightly below the market after hanging out with my friends over cny - and would want to fight for better career progression before its too late.
I’m a JC graduate but I studied in the arts stream. Going to ORD soon, was thinking of going to extend my NS for the money (reg pay and end-of-year civil service bonus) but idk if I can continue doing something I really dislike and has no relevance to civilian life after I ORD. I am going to study computer science and law in one of the local Big 3 universities but idk how to code yet. All I know that is I will need to study SQL and Python for my CS modules.
Will anyone even accept me as someone who has never studied CS before? I’m thinking of Govtech. Of course I will need to learn on the job and work after being accepted but I will need to be accepted first lol.
has anyone done a root canal with them before? how much is cost for molar tooth, excluding the crowning?
so for context, i’ve to pass cm-eip for my job haha. i’ve already done cacs 1 previously & am studying for res 3 (m3) but looking at the cmeip content, it seems so similar to cacs 2. so i was wondering what the difference is as i’m told i’m exempt from taking cacs 2 due to my degree & just need to write res 3 & cm-eip
also if anyone has any advice for writing it, that would be helpful! it seems so content heavy & i’m someone who gets anxious over calculations. i’m worried about how intense the prep is as i’m still working full time now. thanks!
HODs of a specific department are always unresponsive to the tasks or deliverables required from them! What can I do so that I can proceed with the tasks I am required to complete? I tried "pestering" them f2f and also CC-ed my manager to show that I am "pestering" them but they remain unresponsive...
Cheapo NTUC sandals wore out so easily and is an accident waiting to injure/kill me. Give your recommendations for the best sandals you know that's easily available here that was worth your dollar?
Was wondering if anyone could share their experiences interviewing for KPMG for the consultant internship? The email said it is going to be a 45 minute interview but doesn't specify anything else, should I be expecting it to be behavioural only? Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Since the sg tiktok community is already discussing whether a morning shower is essential, I'm more curious—what do you think is worse: skipping a shower in the morning or at night?
Hi,
Need advice from Indonesian expats, or those who've Indo helpers have gone through a divorce against a spouse back in Indo. Please advise on the steps to get it done here in SG. If there is a non profit org she should go to, to act as an advocate for her with the embassy (since I don't speak Indonesian), that would also be appreciated. I need the divorce to be legally and (idk- religiously?) binding. She's new, and doesn't have much money. And she's pretty simple, but honest, and she seems to have been through alot so I thought I'd help her with the process so she doesn't get cheated.
I've emailed the Indonesian Embassy, but have not received a response.
Background:
Since my helper arrived 6 months ago, she and her husband have been through an acrimonious split. Upon arriving in SG, he apparently sold her house behind her back, ran off with a mistress, kicked her older son out of the house and took the young son with him, but refused to let the latter contact her. The father in law whom she had been taking care of also began to dip his hands into the monthly earnings that she sent back to her older son as pocket money.
The mistress and her no-good husband also began trying to extort money from my helper. Until they broke up recently, in which the no-good husband began extorting money from my helper and threatening that he would still be her husband when she returned to Indonesia.
Reads like a soap opera? Yeah, it's apparently true, she has been stressed af and her work quality has dropped. She's also the naive, kampung type who is easily cheated of money, because her brethren quoted her SGD 450 to settle her divorce through the Syariah Court and she was on the verge of paying up.
TIA

I’m trying to switch jobs, and every job I come across seems like a step down from my current salary. How much do Singaporean earn on a monthly basis? I make about 7.8k, my base is low, but I get allowances, which contributes to my income. When I look to change, everything is offering less than my current base.
not really a specific question, just hoping for a wake-up call or advice or if you just want to chime in and gain some gratification from the plight of a self-sabotaging man.
29m this year, grew up middle-class-ish, not wealthy but never had to worry about basic needs or being denied opportunities bc of finances. got into GEP at pri 3, continued to excel and enter elite programme after elite programme without actually ever having to challenge myself significantly, until i hit JC where shit finally got difficult, saw what actually smart people were like, realised i wasn't as special as i thought i was, bungled A-levels because i'd never figured out how to bounce back from being actually stumped by a subject, and just kinda zoned out and took the first offer i got from NUS while everyone i knew was heading to ivy leagues. self-esteem recovered slightly in uni but in hindsight only because i chose a social science degree which was really easy for me and played to my strengths, allowing me to coast through again without learning to challenge myself or fix bad cognitive and emotional habits like procrastination and complacency. graduated with FCH in 2021, entered deadend job and been going through life essentially half-asleep since then. i don't like where i am and what i'm doing and i'm finally starting to suffer the consequences of having it too easy in my youth because i'm so incapable of dealing with anything life throws at me now, and i'm also seeing virtually everyone around me grow and leave me in the dust; but at the same time, i'm still beholden to my old patterns and desire to stick my head in the sand rather than face a challenge, and the consequences aren't dire enough yet, but the reckoning is coming. i don't want to hit 30 and realise i have no prospects, connections, interests or sense of self (in fact i've realised this but can't seem to do anything about it). how do i learn to fix myself finally instead of waiting for life to throw me an ultimatum; hit me
The company cited budget issue and said they cannot give the newborn gift benefit that they put in the contract. Can they do that?
Hi, I’m looking to move to Singapore in the next few years but I have no clue where to start. Does anyone have any advice on where to start with the basics? I’ve looked at visas on MoM and I’ve searched TikTok and Google and can’t find much advice. Like what career path would offer visa sponsorship, cheapest areas to live, best places to shop for groceries, etc. If anyone could help I’d appreciate it a lot!
Context: I have an offer from KPMG already. Pwc is making moves to accommodate to me for an interview as I have made it clear that I have an offer expiring at the end of the week. I was wondering, if any interns / working people at pwc / kpmg can offer any insights on which I should accept and why? Both are in audit, same industries as well.
How is the culture of the company? What are the benefits offered? Any opportunities for growth? What is the pay like in full time? Some of these questions are hard to gauge from just one interview as I do not have any experience in both companies.
Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
hello! olevel graduate here. i got my jae results yesterday. i plan to appeal to either ‘diploma in events & projects management’ or ‘hospitality & tourism management’. both of these diplomas were nothing that i had in mind. i wanted to go down the design route to have a diploma in communication design. however, if i choose to continue with that pathway, i plan to go through higher nitec in ite and then poly. [ bcos of the limitations that i have due to my aggregate]
the dilemma is that i fear that graphic designing may not take me anywhere as far as a diploma in events & project management/hospitality & tourism might in this industry. but i also feel that having a profession in BOTH [ design & project management ] fields could be advantageous as well.
thoughts?
TLDR: Got accepted to NUS Master's for better job opportunities in SG but thinking if studying overseas might be better for potentially better WLB instead.
Some context:
Singaporean Male 29 working in global bank as a associate software engineer. Night calls almost every single night and still have to work 9 to 6. Recently gotten keys to resale flat. I got accepted to NUS Master's in Statistics but I am not sure if I should accept it or not.
Ever since I started having night calls, my mental health starts going to shit, as I am leading a new global project with global stakeholders, even though I'm just an associate. Asked for promotion but was told by my manager "You are the top talent in our team but due to company policy I cant promote you in the next 2 years".
I started looking outside for jobs but the market is so bad and a lot of the companies cant match my salary, even those that could match, I cant even make it pass the 1st round.
Recently my team is hiring for a senior associate role and I am 1 of the interviewer for my team. THERE ARE A LOT OF APPLICANTS WITH MASTERS AND OVER 10 YOE just for a senior associate role. From this I realise, it is hard to compete with these people so maybe I should get a Master's degree to stand out a bit.
I am also thinking that maybe me and my wife should just move overseas for better wlb by studying there instead.
Which option should I choose?
Anyone working at HDB as an estate executive? I recently got called up for an interview for that position. Would like to know about the payment package and working life there!!!
I'm a working adult (currently in marketing but more focused on copywriting) with a great interest in graphic design and video editing.
Currently looking to go back to school for a part-time diploma/degree so I can learn the fundamentals and get more formal criticism/feedback.
I'm thinking of Singapore Polytechnic's Diploma in Design (Visual Communication) Part-Time Course, but wondering if anyone knows other part-time/rigorous online courses that won't make me broke?
Hi I’m toying with the idea of signing on as a dxo, is there anyone here is or was a dxo? Can you share your experiences, benefits or if there’s any work life balance. Can refer me in if got referral $$ btw lol
