my niece is 13 years old, and she's told us she wants to be goth. but she is worried about getting made fun of for still liking Taylor swift and squishmallows. how can I help her embrace her inner goth and help her understand that she doesn't have to be like the stereotypical goths she sees in movies?
Hello everyone, I don't use reddit…well, at all but my purpose for this post is to see if anyone would be willing to participate in an interview about the shift of perspective within the gothic subculture and how it has changed from its more early years. These interviews can be done either through either text or voice (admittedly text would be somewhat prefered because, funny social anxiety -.-). If you have any questions of your own please feel free to ask. I will leave my social here for anyone that would care to be interviewed, thank you for your time

I'm doing a speech about attitudes towards goths from the 80s to the 2010s and was wondering if anyone would be happy to share any of their experiences? I'm focusing on how attitudes have changed from then to now so if anybody has any information about that I would LOVE to hear about it :)
Do goths actually look for non goth partners? Genuinely curious on this one.if it has been asked before and I find it I will delete this.
Hi there
I'm a 25 year old person who often times look at the goth style with some curiosity but never really interested in it
As I grow more introverted with myself and my life I want to start by learning more of the goth style as I understand that it relates to alot of introverts and I'm interested in trying it out
I will greatly appreciate it for pointers and where to start at
Thanks in advance
Hi, my name is Mia and I'm 24. Summing up the introduction I was going to make, I'll say just some things. I'm multiracial (white, black and indigenous) and there's a lot of prejudice against poc on alt places so I'm only starting to know myself now.
I don't know what goth style I should follow cause I live in a tropical country and I have light brown skin. So I don't know what would fit me and be comfortable.
Can someone help me to find a goth style that won't kill me on a 38/44 degrees summer and a 16 degrees winter. With a make up that won't melt on my face...
If you can recommend some goth influencers, youtubers and stuff so I can learn the make up, fashion and maybe something more I don't know.
About the culture I've been reading goth books and listening to goth bands since I was a teenager (I'd love some real underground artists recommendations too). And I always wanted to get more into that world.
About fashion I can't be like trad goth cause I don't have time to dress up and I live in a real small town and I don't want to have so much attention lol. Plus the heat...
Hi everyone, I’m looking for some new books to add to the collection. I’m hoping for some gothic/romantic poetry or other things of that nature. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Sorry to be adding to the endless “Goths in MY area ???” Posts but damn... to say how many “80’s goths in Dublin” videos there are on YouTube but I can’t find 1 single even monthly goth night in Dublin or anywhere else. I’m not even from Dublin I live in Limerick but I’d go there whenever I could if there were any goths nights! I know covid made a lot of venues shut down generally and that really seemed to be the last nail in the coffin for any sparse nights there were before, but is there any semblance of the subculture here after covid? I even love the idea of doing goth and industrial dj sets at house parties to spread the word about this amazing music if there was just a couple others with me!
So yeah if you’re aware of any goth nights, meet ups or if you just live in Ireland yourself and think we’d get on lmk !
I'm from a rural area, but am going to school in a more urban area. I'm also near a big city. I just don't know where to find other people to connect with over goth stuff. How do y'all find other goths and get connected and stuff?
I love goth music and stuff and I dress pretty mainstream most of the time, but sometimes I just wanna dress up goth-y. I feel pretty impostor-y tho bc I don't commit every day. Would other people think it's weird or impostor-y?
Hello, I have never been able to attend an event or club or anything community goth related and I really want to. I was wondering if anyone knows of any places still running as I'm not really sure how to generally look online, I can't find much. The other thing that is difficult in relationship to finding a play is that I am in a wheelchair so I'm not sure if there will be anything accessible either.
I'm asking from Sydney, Australia 😊🐨
I was introduced to goth music by my parents, I'm into 'gothic' movies and literature for years, but when it comes to modern goth culture I'm kind of a newbie. So I went to a party last night and a younger girl told me, that she is a Nu Goth.
Could someone explain me that term and what does it mean, when it comes to music?
Hey, Recently I was listening to black sabbath and wondered, if there's a connection between the band/ozz and goth music? Would you count it as an early influence for the genre?
I hope this is ok to ask here cause it's like, maybe a wee bit off topic, but Idk if there's any other community who would know the answer to this:
I was wondering about people who liked "spooky," "Gothic" type stuff before the Goth music scene showed up. Was there a known community for these people back then? Were they just called Gothic back then? I'm assuming there was a community bc of Gothic literature and stuff having been around for over 100 years already at that point. If anyone knows about that time, I'm really curious to hear about it. 🙂
I’ve always liked goth fashion and just the beauty of darker things in general but I’m not well versed in goth music. I wan’t to submerge further into the goth subculture and meet more goth people. I try to find goth music but it’s a bit hard to not only find alt Apple Music playlists. Where’s the best place to find goth music? Any recommendations for a playlist? I do like the goth music I know like some songs from killing joke or siouxie and the banshees but I just don’t know enough of the music. Doesn’t help I have a shit memory and never remember song titles in general. When I was little I loved goth things and people but there wasn’t much of it around so all I knew was evanescence and wearing dark makeup 😂 wish I had a little more goth culture around me.
I dress in a more elegant/vampire goth fashon, but I don't listen to any of the music or poetry. (I really don't listen to any music, mainly a podcast person). However, I know that is a HUGE part of being goth and I don't want to tell people I'm goth if it's not true. What would I call myself? Right now I just say I'm alt. Thank you for any and all answers!
Heck, what makes someone goth? Is there something that makes someone not a goth? Do goths call themselves Goth?
I’m just looking for opinions from my fellow gothy folks!
I’m an artist looking for new things to create cool new goth inspired things and I would ✨love✨ your help with ideas!
If you identify as goth, alternative, witchy, or anything similar, I’d love to hear your opinions on:
I’ve created a short survey where you can share your feedback.
Hi everyone! Like the title suggests I am doing a research project for school, and I was wanting to ask a few questions. What was your first introduction to the culture, and what are some misconceptions about goths? Thanks for your time!
I am making my brother & his wife a Goth Cookbook. What kind of recipes, jokes, sketches, etc, would you like to see if you received one as a gift? Some examples of what Im including will be a cocktail called “deadly nightshade”, I’ll have a fetus cake (chocolate lava with cherries), sketches of a cemetery he lived by, and by Edgar Allen Poe memes. Any help is appreciated! I have a lot of work to do, thank you!
Here's a space where you can ask goths things and get answers. I would say that no questions are off the table because that's a dangerous thing to say on the internet, but we will be more lenient on the questions that are allowed than on other goth subs. Rules are forthcoming but please use your common sense while we're getting set up.
