Happy Chinese New Year from the UK! Would anyone like to exchange a new year’s card with me? I have some small goodies to include too. I’m going to a local Chinese gala today, and would love to hear all about how you’re celebrating🥳
if this is 2000s era i can understand the reason but today US/west basically view china/russia as sworn enemy need to be destroy no matter the cost
what is the point of holding back anymore ?
cuba is easy case , mexico maybe a little bit harder but still doable via support cartels there prop-up a pro-china gov , allow china/russia military base in , "sell" them weapon such as missile for "defense"
just like what US did with taiwan/ukraine
and even in case US go mad invade cuba/mexico . china can offically call that out and summon an alliance legally send support (weapon , ammo , supply) for mexico/cuba to defense again illegal invader
extractly similar as US/west did with ukraine right now
today US/west no longer strong like before . i dare them openly attack china legally support ship and start ww3 out of it
So at this point in time Chinese languages (mostly Standard Chinese, AKA Mandarin) and Japanese are the only languages that still use Chinese characters in their writing systems. I suppose the South Korean version of Korean also technically counts, because they still use a small amount of Hanja 한자 in certain contexts, like some newspapers and especially legal documents apparently. And North Korea totally abandoned and doesn't use Hanja at all.
Anyway, I was curious how Chinese people tend to feel about the Japanese language still using Kanji, do Chinese people tend to feel proud that another language uses them, or feel annoyed that it was something taken from them? Or just a lot of indiference -- people don't really care that Japan uses them?
Hello everyone, I’m an international student in China in my senior year currently trying to find a job in China. I would appreciate the help from local Chinese on how I can successfully secure a job as a foreigner here in China 🇨🇳 ♥️
Haven’t found a decent source yet other than wiki articles telling me that many of them tatttooed their faces and blackened their teeth. Thanks
I suppose the Sinosphere would be China's equivalent, but unfortunately countries in the sinosphere are the countries China has the worst relations with... I personally believe that the US' alliances and its cultural connections with Europe and Latin America will unfortunately give it an upper hand against China in the coming conflicts.
II have a friend in a wheelchair. He has a plane ticket to go to china, will it be accessible/easy to get around?
By accessible, I mean accessible wheel ramps elevators in many builds (even small ones) etc?
Last time I went to china 7 years ago, everywhere had barricades that were too big for wheelchairs to get through. No wheelchair ramps at all.
instead of heavy censorship , avoid and don't want to talk about sensitive issue
why you guy don't just honestly and offically mask off ?
people outside of china keep criticism china about : 1989 , hongkong , uyghur because they know china gov/people gonna feel hurt and uneasy
they will lost interest doing so entirely the moment they know china gov/people feel good about it
for example : openly and offically name them :
1/ a great potential traitors turkey shoot day
2/ suppress potential traitors sabotage plot - be thankful we still have mercy instead of ..."remove" you all and we can easily do it
why don't you guy reply to all china hater with that ? guarranted they will shut up entirely and never "criticism" china again
i like china and support you guy become new world ruler , but alot of time i think you guy (both gov and people) seriously lack backbone
you guy just keep trying so hard to be "mr nice guy" and it alway backfire
why you guy don't seem to understand a simple logic : "mr nice guy" only win in a movie , real life is might make right world , an honest evil alway end up getting more get more love , fans ?
Hi everyone. I would like to learn more about laws in China according to the lawmakers perspective, and not from a western YouTuber who’s trying to interpret them. Can you point me to some useful resources ?
I would specifically like to learn more about the laws regarding free speech and the different consideration China has for it compared to the west.
Hi what are some good online websites to buy a traditional cheongsam?
Thank you!
So, I have just been into the world of C dramas in the last year and have watched quite some dramas. I am curious about so many things that I have so many questions and I don't know which reddit community to ask it in so I put it here! My question is not just about Cdrama
It seems to me that there is a large percentage of people who work across 'verticals ' (let's call it that for lack of a better word) in the sense that most celebrities do movies, TV dramas and also record albums and do concerts and even host reality shows! Sort of like the EGOT achievers in US. I feel it is not so pronounced in the US because I don't know many people who do everything! Like maybe singers could have acted in movies or vice-versa but that's it. However, here there are so many people in the Chinese Entertainment industry who do all like Wallace Ho, Xu Kai, Wang Yibo, Xiao Zhan, Hu Ge, Yang Yang, Yang Mi, Zhao Liying and many more I don't know about. I mean, do you have to be present everywhere to be a big name?
It's incredible that there is so much cross over across these various performing verticals. In India for instance, if you are a singer then you are just that. You might do a couple of movies but your main identity is a singer and it goes the same for movie star, tv star etc. It's also a bit difficuly with the mobility between industries is what I have heard. It seems that's not the case in China, right?
What are all these many many shows? Like Wang Yibo for instance, is there a New Year's show every year? Are they pre-recorded, live concerts? He also seems to do many of these concerts and dance shows. What are these Hunan TV Gala, CGTN Spring Festival celebration, Beijing TV Spring Festival Gala? Are they live and do people go see them in droves and are they also aired on TV at the same time? I can't wrap my head around this. How expensive are the tickets to these shows? They look like good productions with respect to stage design, lighting etc.
What is China's most prestigious awards? Like the Oscars or Emmy's?
So, who are the most popular actors in China? If you have to make a comparison, in terms of talent and popularity how would that be? I guess what I am trying to understand is that if there is a Meryl Streep for China, who would that be? If there is a George Clooney or a Tom Hanks or a Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie or Emma Stone etc etc.
Similarly, if you could compare the following actors to Hollywood stars where would you place them? - Xiao Zhan, Wang yibo, Xu Kai, Wallace Ho, Zhao Liying
Maybe they cannot be compared but a rough approximation could really help in placing them in my head!
This stuff is too expensive in EU, id rather save the diff for a house
We own a vídeo producer that sell worldwide but we dont sell yet to China.
Hi!
How would you write the words True Faith with chinese symbols?

according to my friend foods bought in taobao could be fake, as factories in China have almost no regulations apparently, they get checked online that's all, so they could sell you whatever they want, is this true? I was wanting to buy cream on taobao and it has many reviews
I'm trying to get more familiar with Chinese society so I figure this would be a good place to start.

These two are major well-known Chinese companies with significant international sales and extremely high profits. However, it seems that these two companies do not treat their employees very well. What are everyone's thoughts on these two companies?
What is considered more luxurious between the two?
Hoping to take a career break and spend a year in China going back to my roootsss, travelling, learning mandarin while I teach English for income.
Which city should I start in? Any international schools or language schools I could apply to? What kinda red tape/paperwork (visa, certificate etc) should I be aware of ?
Thanks guys! And gong xi fa cai 🧧🧧😊
For example, in the second case, there is strong tourism in Brazil to "cold weather" cities such as Gramado and Campos do Jordão, which attract many Brazilians but not necessarily many people from outside, or to cities with amusement parks in Penha or Vinhedo.
In the first case, there are a number of natural parks and historical cities that are very interesting and attractive, but where you will hardly see anyone speaking anything other than Portuguese.
And who can make them?
I've been told by people that China does not like movies or shows about true ghost stories. I make videos about supposedly true ghost stories in the US and now in China. I just made a video on tiktok about the ghosts at the Forbidden City and I will make another one about the Great Wall and other famous sites in China. Would it be okay for me to upload these videos to Red note?
As a foreigner, the only voice I actually hear coming from China is in favor of the CCP. Does this view actually represent China, or is it distorted to some extent?
No propaganda replies from any side please (and yes, that includes pro-western).
Edit: thanks for the quick and insightful replies
I don't understand how the possible successor to Xi will be chosen. Does he have some kind of favourite person in mind? Is there a list somewhere?
Can you give me a list of possible candidates and and the politics of each one?
And who you personally believe will take over and why?
aka a Statue of Symbolism of the country's values
Is it true that people avoid receiving red envelopes from those are seen to be going through alot of misfortune?

Hello,
I am a Chinese learner. I posted on this sub recently and got lots of great feedback about my name, so I’m here again to check that my chosen names don’t have any bad associations and sound appealing. I am a girl, looking for female names. Here they are:
朱祥雨 (Zhū Xiáng Yǔ) — a little feminine, a little modern, common characters. “Auspicious rain,” gives a refreshing or calming feel. 24 strokes
朱祥蕊 (Zhū Xiáng Ruǐ) — very feminine, more traditional, 蕊 is not as common but still recognizable. “Auspicious flower buds,” gives a ‘natural beauty’ feminine feel. 31 strokes
朱祥玥 (Zhū Xiáng Yuè) — pretty feminine, modern & unique, i heard 玥 is getting a little popular recently. “Auspicious pearl” or “auspicious mythical gem,” elegant and ‘valuable’ feel. I wonder if this is too over-the-top? 24 strokes
I really like the sound of 祥 (as you can tell). I chose 朱 as a surname because it matches my native last name and also gives my name an overall auspicious feel, I know it is the same as 猪. I also made sure that the number of strokes for each name was auspicious. I don’t mind a name with a lot of strokes.
Any advice for me? Which sounds the most natural? Do any of them have any bad associations/sound bad? Please also feel free to correct any misunderstanding I have about the names. Thank you!
I just read an article about the ghost stories of the Forbidden City. What are some other famous places in China that people say are haunted? What ghost stories have you heard?
I'm buying some items from a company in Shangai, the price of the product is fine but the shipping costs are triple the price! They usually use UPS to send the items but they encourage me to look for different options. Do you know of a trusted service that can send me a medium package to the US?
