8009 cockroaches?

So were the sentient cockroaches really from the year 8009? Their story checked out. How could they have known about the Time Machine otherwise?

A way too serious look into Master Shake's cup

So, I don’t believe Shake is a sociopath, though he does have sociopathic traits and tendencies. This is something I see a lot, people thinking that Shake is automatically a sociopath just because he’s abusive and violent and because he lacks empathy at times. (Also because Freda called him one, ignoring the fact she’s probably one herself) This isn’t how Antisocial Personality Disorder or abuse works; not every sociopath is abusive and not every abuser is a sociopath. Master Shake has many mental issues and merely calling him a sociopath I feel does a dis-service to how well-written he is despite being a character only really meant to make jokes.

I’m aware it may seem a bit odd to analyze Shake like this, but Shake’s mental issues are not hidden nor are they just implied. They are explicit and easily observable if you just pay attention to his dialogue and behavior. Before I go further, it’s extremely important to note that ASPD, sociopathy, and other disorders like it are a spectrum, one that can be difficult to define sometimes.

The core functioning of ASPD (or Antisocial Personality Disorder) is of power and control with little to no empathy. On the other hand, Shake is a character with underlying – though not fully conscious – feelings of inadequacy and inferiority that he masks with superiority, grandiosity, and anger to compensate. Shake desperately and frantically avoids those negative feelings – fear, inadequacy, shame, vulnerability, rejection, abandonment – resulting in him acting and lashing out against his environment and the people around him. Shake’s core problem – the one that dictates all of his actions and behaviors – is his fragile and unstable self-image and self-esteem. This is clear with episodes like "Supermodel", "Super Hero", "The Dudies", "Boost Mobile", "Ezekiel", and even admitting to it himself in "The Creditor" as well as a brief mention of it in "Total Re-Carl".

Shake’s ASPD traits are all coming from his fragmented sense of self; he feels vulnerable, threatened, envious, and often ashamed. In order to protect himself, Shake projects those negative emotions onto the others around him, mainly Meatwad. In doing so, Shake feels reconstituted by being powerful or in control at the expense of others. Shake doesn’t \*just\* want to hurt Meatwad because he enjoys it, he is projecting his own feelings of shame and inadequacy onto Meatwad that he feels justified and entitled in ‘punishing’.

Shake has a lot of overlap with ASPD and possesses some of the same issues associated with sociopaths, but the core functioning is fundamentally different; seeking power and control vs. trying to carry a self-image that’s in constant threat of falling apart. While Shake is often caught up in his rigid and delusional grandiose defenses and coping mechanisms, he does care for others and shows – albeit rare and inconsistent - empathy. There are multiple instances of Shake possessing a desire for a connection with others including Meatwad, Frylock, and Carl, sometimes to an unhealthy degree, often becoming a clingy obsession like in “Frat Aliens” and “Freda”.

We see this in “Skins” when Shake attempts to connect with a hippie group, and later with Meatwad and Frylock when they preform a concert that Carl pulled strings to organize. He connects with Meatwad through the entirety of “Wi-tri” and they banter together like siblings in “Kidney Car.” In addition, in “Party All the Time”, Shake is genuinely worried and scared for Frylock’s health. Shake comforts not only Meatwad, but Carl as well after being faced with the probability of losing Frylock to cancer.

However, Shake’s desire for closeness is fragile. Shake’s constant need for attention and his fear of rejection and abandonment causes him to seek admiration and validation from others when he should be seeking love and acceptance from himself. Yet, there’s a conflict inside Shake that wishes to connect which is something you don’t see in sociopaths.

In conclusion, Master Shake is a misunderstood individual who, while definitely culpable, is wrongfully demonized and labeled with very little understanding. His actions are his own, but his actions inform us on the deeper workings of his being, if we take the time to observe them earnestly. He is a flawed individual, suffering mental illnesses – true – but he is not, in any form, a sociopath.

Thank you for coming to my AQUAjail talk.

For your gaming pleasure. The old ATHF games.

Here is a list of all the old ATHF games that I know of. Last week I made a thread that had links to where you could play most of the old flash games. But it was taken down. I guess it counts as pirated content. Most are easy enough to find with a google search though.

Anyway, maybe there are some of us that have not played these games in 20+ years, or maybe these are all new to you.

Flash Games

  • ATHF Head Games ( sometimes called "Name This Game")
  • ATHF Dead Evil
  • Master Shake's Diving Contest
  • ATHF Mooninite Marauders
  • ATHF Space Combat
  • Go Right, Championship Edition (Worst Game Ever)

Computer Download

  • ATHF Studio Shakedown

Mobil

  • MeatStroke
  • ATHF Destruct-O-Thon

Console

  • ATHF Zombie Ninja Pro-Am

Let me know if any are missing form this list. Finding old/semi-lost ATHF media is a hobby of mine.
