Low GPA Great Extracurriculars

So I'm getting ready to apply for college as a senior in highschool in Michigan. I'm thinking about double majoring in Vocal Performance and something like English or Criminal Justice. As The title says I have a pretty low GPA at 2.8. However it's about to increase due to credit recovery and several AP classes. I have an SAT score of 1110, pretty good AP scores ranging from 3-4, a pretty good essay, and letters of recommendations. I also am currently interning at a legal office, and have been in choir for seven years. I've also gotten involved with both my School's and my local community theater. I don't want to get into Ivy League or anything but I'm hoping I can get into a pretty decent college and I'm getting nervous about whether or not I'll get accepted. Do you guys think I'm being to optimistic by applying to good universities like Michigan State University or Oakland University?

Need Some Guidance For College

Hello I need some guidance on what path I should potentially take for college. I am applying to enroll this next fall. As of right now am unsure if I should do aerospace or mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineering will allow me to look at more colleges and potentaiily spend less money but I would prefer to study aerospace.

I currently have a 1270 SAT and am planning on retaking with hopes of around a 1350. I have a 101.29 weight GPA (my school doesn’t calculate gpa on a 4.0 point scale) I am in my schools engineering academy, I am ranked 13th in my class out of around 500, I got a 4 on AP physics I, and I am currently in AP Calc AB. Along with that I have had a major leadership role in Robotics for 4 years and have other extracurriculars and lots of community service. Preferably I would like to keep to the east coast but I am willing to go elsewhere. These are some of the colleges I am currently looking at

GIT(mech or aero)

U of Maryland (mech)

NJIT(mech)

FIT(mech or aero)

Embry-Riddle(aero)

NC State(aero or mech)

Penn State (aero or mech)

RutgersNB (aero or mech)

Rowan University (mech)

University of Flordia (aero or mech)

UT Austin

Virginia Tech (aero or mech)

University of Virginia (mech)

University of Deleware

U of Penn (mech)

Stevens IT (mech)

As you could probably guess I feel completely lost and I am just looking for a little guidance anywhere. Thank u for reading all of this

Science Po: UBC vs UCL

Hi! I am a senior who is applying to universities this year and I am really hoping to get into one of the Science PO Dual Degree Programs. At the moment, I am hoping to become a lawyer practicing in either the UK or Canada.

For the Science Po Dual Degree Program, you can only apply to ONE of the schools, so I am stuck between UBC or UCL. I reside in Canada but am in the IB program so I'm hoping my chances are high.

I would like to know which school I have a higher chance of getting into (and which is better to get into law school)

Here are my marks at the moment: 38/45 IB (I might apply with my regular Canadian marks but I am not sure if UCL will accept that)

ECs -> President of 4 clubs, Mental Health Ambassador for a Mental Health association, President of 2 NPOs, 500+ volunteering hours, 2 local law unpaid internships, Figure Skating Coach, UH... (I am planning to give presentations to elementary school students about WW1 in November)

Please help me decide on which program to apply for (which one will ACTUALLY ACCEPT ME)

Can I get into college?

Hi! I’m currently a 12th grade student and I’m going to have to start applying soon, but I’m in a tough situation. So I took my sat in August and got the score of 1110 (ik it’s not good but it is what it is), I have a gpa of 3.9 and am an straight A student since 10th grade (I was in a different curriculum so I didn’t really care in 9th grade since it was middle skl in that curriculum) I do not know what my class rank is (since my school doesn’t do those), I took 1 AP class last year (AP English, and no I do not know my score due to an incident that happened during the test) and currently taking 2 AP classes (AP chem and AP psych). I want to start applying once I finish getting all the recommendations letters, though my question is, would I have a chance of getting into good colleges to major in psychology with a gpa of 3.9, straight As since 10th grade, an SAT score of 1110 and only 3 AP courses? Do you think I can do it?

For further info, I am thinking of applying to Germany, Scotland, Netherlands, England and possibly the US (still don’t know how to feel about that with everything happening right now). If u have any questions or feel like I’m missing some info that would help pls let me know, I’m in a really DESPERATE need of help right now! Thank you!!!

Edit: if any of you have college suggestion (like which college to apply to) that you think I would have a high change of getting into, even if it’s not in the places that I am looking into above, that would be really helpful!

Help Finding Arch./English Colleges

I want to major in English and/or Architecture. I also have an interest in communications and foreign languages. I like writing a lot (main reason I want to study English), and I think I'm rather alright at it.

Architecture has been a dream for a while now too, but I know that a double major with it is tricky. To me, it's more of a crutch because I feel like simply having an English major isn't going to help me find many jobs once I graduate, so I went with the second thing I'm most interested, which was architecture.

I'm from the southeast, and I've been wanting to find colleges or unis in the northeast that would be affordable and actually possible to get into as an out of state student. I've been looking into NEU in Boston because of it's interdisciplinary Architecture and English major, but I know that it's hard to get into because I wouldn't be apply early decision. Same with Tulane. I'm also looking into Swarthmore, but that's about all I have right now.

Please please please help me. I'm so lost and stressing so much.

Volunteer extracurricular to help strays!

Are you searching for a new extracurricular? Something to volunteer for, that’s accessible online? This online volunteering opportunity will for sure impress many colleges!

Hi! An exciting new app called “Whiskers & Wings” is currently in development, aimed at those passionate about helping stray animals worldwide and enhancing their college applications.

The app prioritizes the safety and well-being of animals in our community by featuring tools to report stray or injured animals and much more by connected local rescue groups and animals shelters in your area (This is where you come in!).

How much does a President's Volunteer Service Award help with college applications?

I'm currently a junior in high school, and I was just wondering how impactful a president's volunteer service award is on a college application. I currently have two gold ones, (one of which was earned through 250 service hours), and I'm currently on track to get my third gold one; by the time I apply for colleges, I would have three gold president's volunteer service awards. Has anyone ever gotten it as well and do you think that it helps your college applications?

In Desperate Need of Guidance: Help me Decide

UMass Amherst vs Purdue vs IU Bloomington

Hi guys, I’m really sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but i really do need some advice because there is nobody in my surroundings that can help me.

I am an international student from India but living in the middle east. I applied for bio-related majors but I am still figuring things out and I am likely to change majors. I am basically open to any major at this point (but probably leaning towards healthcare, management, bio, applied econ). I want to learn more about myself, figure out what I am passionate about and what I am not.

Got scholarships from only UMass and IUB and cuz apparently purdue doesn’t give scholarships to intl students, but all are affordable

I am quite an extroverted person, that being said I still get intimidated by big college vibes. I am someone who values relationships and having a sense of community. I really want college to be a place where I make life long connections.

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:

- I go to a really dead highschool so I want to go to a school that has a lot of spirit, pride and a place where I feel like I really belong- a sense of community. So vibes, the friendly and welcoming nature of people, diversity is very important to me.

- Name Value: not the biggest factor but still important because it makes life easier in terms of getting jobs and stuff

- Career support from school: this is probably one of the most important because I don’t know what I want to do

- Clubs/activities/opportunities in school and outside of: so that I can showcase my skills but also develop new ones. Also so that I can make lifelong friends which I could never in my highschool.

- Campus: doesn’t need to be ginormous but their should be some quality to reflect the money I’m paying

- Location: not too dead but not too bustling (like NYC, no can do)

- Strong Indian community (but again that is not everything)

- Not extremely big classes and lecture halls: that can be quite intimidating and I am someone who engages a lot in class discussions. I would like to have a variety of big and small classes.

- Pretty chill in academics but still reputable

- Fooood

- Safety

- Options: I want a school where I can take various classes and explore what I really want to do, figure myself out, see what oath is right for me.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ME MORE QUESTIONS TO GET TO KNOW ME BETTER IF IT HELPS

Indiana University mistakenly sent a congrats email to a group of parents of applicants!

On march 18th Indiana University mistakenly sent out a congrats email to a group of parents of waitlisted applicants who had not been not admitted yet. I was one of them. I am shocked that this could ever happen. My son got excited but when I called, someone said "our deepest apologies. We are trying to figure out how thee emails got out. He is still on the waitlist."

Seriously? Are you kidding me? Totally unacceptable. They should be embarrassed.
