Is he alluding that he's 💅🌈? I'm a new reader and haven't watched the anime yet, but I saw he appears in the movie - any additional context there or am I reading into this too much?
Izumu's voice sounds strange, Bon feels super weird in the scene with Lightning and the audio quality just seems worse then the last season. Is this something others have notice or is the site i'm using just ass.
Ofc this subreddit is gonna be bias. But i started reading it not long after it came out and stopped after a couple volumes. Liked it but never continued. Im not some purist who snobs all shonen, but i've read my fair share - still love them - but sometimes they get repetative. Is blue exorcist original enough to get a look through?
Imo, I don’t think this season is worse than season 3, buts it’s still not the best adaptation. They improved a little bit with the art style and animation, ONLY a little bit. It was nothing impressive to say “wow the show is saved”. The art style and animation are still inconsistent, they’re still cutting out shit from the manga that would’ve help us understand the characters a little more, the colors, saturation and the details look stale and the pacing is still weird as fuck. At least the backgrounds look good though. And the voice acting in dub and sub is pretty good. They always nail it with the voice acting. But stats about it. While it did improve only a little bit, it’s still pretty mediocre, but not as bad as season 3 though. I know I shouldn’t listen to IMDb readings, but still. It’s not just them. Judging by this, the anime is pretty much deep fried. What are you thoughts on this?
Do Rin and Mephisto and Lucifer and Amaimon have fatal verses? Does every demon in blue exorcist have a fatal verse? Even the ones that don’t seem to hold any malice toward humans?
This is kinda just gonna be me putting down my thoughts and analysis for Yukio's character down. It's gonna be long, but there WILL be a tldr at the end for yall.
First off, I agree with BOTH Yukio haters and Yukio supporters. Why? Because I HAVE been both before. At some point, I absolutely despised the man. Like, I would be in the car and remember his character, and I'd straight up yell his name in frustration LMAOOOOO
However, as I've caught up through the rest of the manga, I no longer HATE him. Do I think he made mistakes, and was indeed a terrible person at some point? Yes. Do I think he has been redeemed and is now a better person? Also yes. But does that completely erase what he's done wrong in the past? Nah.
But again, that's why Yukio, while he isn't my favorite CHARACTER, he is my favorite WRITTEN character. I don't like him, but I love the way that he is written.
Here's why:
Yukio was thrown into the world of demons from a young age. Issue number 1. THEN, Father Fujimoto gave him, what was essentially, a mission, and to a child, a purpose. And that was to protect his OLDER brother, Rin. That's issue number 2, and this is all when he's still a lil baby.
Now, as he and Rin grow up, Yukio is diligent in his studies in both normal AND exorcist life. He pushes himself to become stronger, stronger, stronger -- why? Because he has to protect Rin. If he wants to protect Rin, he naturally needs to be stronger than him. So then this creates this unconscious NEED for Yukio to be stronger.
And for a while, this is the case. While Rin has natural physical prowess, he has no idea how to utilize it because he's not aware of the demonic world. If he and Yukio had fought, guns blazing, Yukio had a chance at winning, had a chance at being a protector. Yukio saw Rin as they both grew up, and saw Rin as a trouble maker, as someone who needed his help.
But then -- BAM -- Father Fujimoto dies, and indirectly "because of" Rin, issue number three. Both Rin AND Yukio likely think this way. This rears its ugly head when Yukio turns his gun on Rin in that classroom. This is a demon who killed my father vs I need to protect my brother goes through his head (probably). In the end, the latter wins. And for a while, he clings on to that. It was Fujimoto's request for him, and from childhood, it has and always will be his life purpose.
And so naturally, he keeps at it. However, now, the complication is that Rin IS very demon-like in the sense that he now has demonic features, has blue flames, and is the very thing that Fujimoto asked him to protect him against. This is where internal conflict and tension begin to rise, though he probably doesn't notice for a while until it blows later.
Not only this, but throughout the entirety of school, he sees Rin have "slacking." He lets it go though.
But then Rin vs Amaimon fight happens in the forest, and the Vatican gives Rin an ultimatum -- become an exorcist in the next 6 months, or die. Issue number four.
Worst case scenario for Yukio. He needs to protect his brother, which means keeping him from dying. But in order for his brother to live, he needs to PASS A TEST, oh God forbid! So when he sees Rin STILL "slacking", Yukio begins to feel INTENSE frustration -- the kind where he unconsciously wonders if it's even possible for him to fulfill his purpose of protecting Rin at this rate.
Rin, who has always been a part of Yukio's reason to do things, has now become the key to either making or breaking everything Yukio has worked for.
Fast forward to the Kyoto arc. Yukio meets Todo. Todo introduces the idea of family being a burden, family being unnecessary, and a part of that resonates with Yukio. Of course it does -- at this point, Rin who is his everything, is also becoming the one to drag Yukio down in the sense that RIN is the one making protecting him difficult. Rin, has unknowingly, become a burden in Yukio's life.
Then, while fighting Todo, he actually SUMMONS BLUE FLAMES. WHAT? To him, this is unprecedented because he's grown up being told that he didn't inherit any of Satan's flames. This terrifies him -- what was he meant to do with this? Whether Yukio is aware of it or not, at this point, this is where he begins to obsess over power. Why? Because seeing Rin "carelessly" use his flames despite his life being at risk makes Yukio's job of protecting him difficult. It makes Yukio's LIFE difficult. All that he has ever done for his brother, about to go down the drain every moment Rin does something "stupid."
So when Yukio realizes that he too, has the blue flame, a thought comes slithering in -- Power. With power, comes the ability to contain Rin, and protect him. But at this point, the "protect" has become blurred, and Yukio forgets under all the stress what it is he wants the power for. He obsesses over it -- the idea of being stronger than Rin. He obsesses and laments over the fact that he's physically weaker than Rin despite all the hard work and training he's done his entire life. He focuses on that -- "I am weaker than Rin. I need to be stronger than Rin. I need...power."
Cue his downward spiral of him trying to summon Satan by "killing himself" (which is also a hint to an unconscious, deep tiredness that Yukio feels toward life -- he has worked his whole life for a world invisible to most, but was there a point to anything anymore? He was now as demonic as Rin, did he deserve to live? Of course he fell, believing that Satan would keep him alive, but there was always that small, small sliver of chance that he would die, and maybe that was okay), going over to the Illuminati, shooting Rin, etc. etc. (Also, the shooting Rin was likely a way to show himself that he was stronger than him, but at the same time Yukio KNEW it wouldn't kill his brother. It was a convoluted way to make a point to himself and Rin)
AND THEN THIS is why the hand to hand combat with Rin was what resolved their conflict, and Yukio's internal conflict. Rin -- whether he was doing it on purpose or not -- was showing Yukio that Yukio is NOT weak, and that he is in fact strong. But at the same time, Rin was showing Yukio that Rin CAN protect himself, and that Yukio didn't NEED TO DEDICATE HIS LIFE TO HIM ANYMORE.
Yukio, who's entire life has been tied to Rin and his livelihood, was released from those chains and from that childhood mission. It was essentially a "You don't need to give up anything or become stronger for ME. You can do all that for YOU now."
Yukio has unknowingly tied himself and all that he did to being "because of Rin." But after that fight, Yukio could finally move forward.
THIS is why I love Yukio's character writing, and believe Kazue Kato absolutely ate that up. Yukio's entire character story, arc, and life is so well thought out, and the resolution to his internal and Rin's conflict was chef's kiss.
So Yukio sucked, as a person, but LIKE a person, also grew -- with the help, funnily enough, of his the brother that he so desperately wanted to be help TO.
Anyway, so are you allowed to hate him? Yeah. Are you allowed to love him? Sure. Either way, I don't really care LMAO, I just wanted to rant about how well written his character is LOL
TLDR: Yukio took "protect your brother" too seriously, so his entire life became "because of Rin." All that power hungry stuff stemmed from the idea of becoming stronger than Rin. It was all resolved thanks to a brotherly fist fight which showed both Yukio and Rin that they are both strong in their own right.

Thank you!
Did they really just a do a boob size = power thing? Like I know she has been in here for a year and half like she said but....
Can anybody link me to a blu ray for season 1. Im so confused by what is and isn’t legit. Thanks !
They took down and reposted a redaction after I had already translated and posted the video, so I edited it in line with the official redaction. Sorry for the repost!
I think season 3 covered around 25-30 chapters (rip kraken and school mysteries), and I imagine season 4 will do the same. As of the 5th episode, 12 chapters have been adapted, so by the end of the season that would be roughly 29 chapters adapted. So, the final episode for this season would land on chapter 110.
Howeverrr, I think that now that Aomori is over, they'll adapt less chapters per episode (take a slower pace) and end on around chapter 99 when Rin oofs. Season 5 will then be the start of the blue night remembrance arc,
Thoughts?
Does Rins new friend from season 3 become relevant?
Poor Yukio, he was just moments away from all that juicy power…
On a side note, Yukio’s serious background music is always 10/10
