Took 10 minutes and three employees to get the self-checkout machine at Crisler to register two chicken tender baskets.
There is no override on the machine where an employee can input the correct order so we spent several minutes pushing around the chicken tenders (as directed by multiple employees) so it wouldn’t register as a cheeseburger or a plain basket of fries.
The manager was called over and still no ability to do anything beyond moving the food around and taking it on and off the platform.
If you are curious what type of self-checkout machine I’m talking about: https://www.mashgin.com
Anyone else encounter issues with these new machines?
Currently looking at apartments in the area to consider because every year my apartment complex keeps raising the price. I came across the new “affordable housing” apartments that were just finished being built in Ypsi on Golfside and Clark. Turns out, for one person, the income restriction is $52,000 a year. I might qualify. So I go to look at the price of apartments and they’re almost TWICE the price of mine. They start around $1600!!! How is this “affordable housing apartments?!”
I am looking for a piano teacher who teaches adults and who is okay with the student having an electronic keyboard (with weighted keys) instead of a piano. TIA!
Hey guys! Anything going on in Ann Arbor this month? Wanted to swing up there this month but I want to make a plan first. Thanks!
I was stopped at Jackson and Maple waiting for the left turn onto Stadium. I picked up my phone to check Waze for my ETA, and read a text. When the light changed, I set it down and drove on. Got pulled over immediately, cop must have been right behind me somewhere. He said Jackson is one of 3 safety corridors where they are aggressively enforcing the no-device-in-hand law. Washtenaw is another, I forgot the third.
What I didn't know is that includes sitting at red lights when you are not actively moving and steering the car.
And it's a $240 ticket for the first offence, goes up for more. Yikes.
1 Billion dollars is a lot of money. When the community voted for the AAPS bond back in 2019 it was supported by the Sierra club and other environmental groups. It was sold as a wonderful investment in our children and future, and many of us looked forward to that future.
Unfortunately the management of the bond has largely been outsourced to the AAPS development company hired to oversee bond projects. Public input and oversight has dwindled and disappeared. Teachers are asking for resources that the bond money was supposed to cover (musical instruments, sound proofing upgrades, equipment and supplies) and being told there might not be enough money left. But projects that are not needed or asked for get rubber stamped without issue. New school site plans are being developed that destroy huge swaths of green spaces and force children to attend school 35 ft from active construction sites for 4 years. A bond that was meant to support students, teachers, and our community, with true environmental consideration, has failed to live up to those ideals.
The Thurston Elementary School community has been working on getting the site and constructions plans adjusted to better serve our students, teachers, and neighbors. All we are asking is that the BOE recommit to the spirit in which the bond was sold to all of us. This process has revealed district wide issues with bond oversight and unfortunate themes that have an impact far beyond any one school. Teachers, parents, taxpayers...ignored.
We've put together some YouTube videos explaining our particular problem and some solutions. Thurston is a great example of how the bond management has gone wrong, but certainly not the only one. Find out more here:
Hi all!
I’ll be starting a new position at the University Hospital in January and am looking for an apartment or condo, ideally near downtown. I currently live about an hour northeast of Ann Arbor and have considered commuting, but I’m not sure how sustainable that will be long-term.
I’m looking for a one-bedroom or studio. Does anyone have suggestions for areas that offer reasonable rent and are safe? Also, if you have recommendations for nearby neighborhoods outside of Ann Arbor, I’d appreciate any advice!
Thanks so much :)
I know Arbor Brewing in Ypsi, which still had them last year, isn't putting them out for this year. For winter 2024-25, where still has this innovation?
And on the day that our propane ran out for heat. Fun! I love camping inside my house.
kind of odd question but i was wondering if anyone had any shop recommendations for buying knitted winter scarves and gloves that are local!! (and also won't break my bank please)
Saw this as I walked into the hospital today, made my heart a bit lighter
Hi I’m looking to watch the SEC championship game this Saturday and was wondering what folks recs are for a chill location. Preferably something not very bro-y and a plus for yummy fries and local beer! Thanks in advance
Located at 605 E. Huron Street, where the Campus Inn stands today, was the old Ann Arbor Recreation bowling alley.
I had a rather fun interaction with a rather hostile Ann Arbor resident earlier today. I was in the Skydale/Larkspur neighborhood off Pontiac Trail (across from Arrowwood). In the middle of the neighborhood is a city park. Parking is allowed along the curb. I was parked along the curb next to the park, on purpose so that I wouldn't be parked right in front of anyone's house.
This wasn't good enough for a person in a house across the street. They came out of their house, and asked me why I was parked there. They then claimed I was parked in front of their house, and that I wasn't allowed to do that, and that I should leave. I told him that it was a public street, that I was parked next to the park, not his house, and I could be there if I wanted to. This was not good enough for the Karen, and he demanded I leave and that I was on his property. Words were exchanged. He started filming me, so I did the same. I threatened to call the police, he said he'd call them because I was harassing him and was parked illegally in front of his house. I finally left.
I'm not gonna show pics of him or his house as I don't want to start a witchhunt, but the guy was a paranoid asshole. Looked to be middle aged, 30s-40s. The streets there are city streets and considering I was parked next to the park and not his house he had no jurisdiction to tell me to move. I hope I don't ever have to deal with him again.
Trying to figure out if it's appropriate for family, good entertainment, and just generally worth buying tickets for a group (cost-wise), etc, because there are other things we could also do. I have enjoyed the plays I've been to that Jeff Daniels has written, and I know he didn't write the last play there about the 3 women going for a spa/wilderness vacay, but that one turned out incredibly awkward because of its raunch factor, which the social group of us hadn't known about and weren't really up for.
About the spoiler flair -- my post doesn't have a spoiler, but I suppose your responses might?
Hello - sorry if this isn’t the right place I’m not sure where to ask. My dad is having some health problems and has insurance through the U of M. He keeps hitting into issues with insurance but is having trouble sorting it out himself. Wonder if anyone knows if U of M insurance has like a patient advocacy group I could connect him with? I don’t live local so trying to help from a distance but I only know as much as he does.
Hey there. I found a phone. In the same plaza as Target. If you lost it, DM me with where you lost it and what I would have seen tapping on the screen.
Trying to move apartments pretty soon. Just can’t afford it here personally. It’s a nice, beautiful apartment, but we just fell on hard times and can’t catch up. It’s at Spice Tree, 750sq ft, 1,295$ a month.
Hey all, I'm going to be in downtown Ann Arbor on friday morning to pick up a new book release. In order to not have to drive home right away it would be nice if I could find a public spot to work remotely until my lunch break. Anyone know any good spots?
I drive Plymouth Road every day. This morning I noticed that the Marco's Pizza at the curve was closed. I was just wondering if anyone knew how long ago it that happened. I never went there but I have to think business was good being near so many dorms and student apartments.
Take my advice: do not rent here.
They are under their third management company in as many years.
In the past year, they replaced the entrance doors in all buildings WITHOUT PULLING THE PROPER PERMITS FROM THE CITY. Soon after the city notices went up on all buildings, surprise! New management company.
It took them a year and a half to fix major water damage in our back stairwell. The emergency exit light was out for all that time.
I had to contact the city code enforcement people to even get them halfway to done on that project.
They have changed their rent payment scheme now, so that you cannot simply hand them a check. My eighty-something year olf mother lives here and their new payment scheme seems to involve using a cell phone for texting them, but--BIG SURPRISE--my 80-something year old mother DOESN'T USE A CELL PHONE.
Their website says office opens at 9am. I drove over to ask how mom is supposed to pay rent, but, at 9:30, they STILL weren't open, and their door sign said 10am.
Absolute fucking morons.
Fuck South Grove, and whoever their management-of-the-month is.
Do NOT live here. Get out soon if you do.
Little bro is building a house soon, and I hope mom can last until then, but I don't know how she is going to pay her rent, seeing as South Grove is making it as hard as possible, and, if you ask me, discriminatory and illegal.
They should plow this place down and turn it back into farmland. And hang the management company on the strongest branch.
Just fuck them.
Welcome to the weekly /r/AnnArbor events megathread! Post any events happening in and around Ann Arbor this week below. Some evergreen resources:
Hi everyone!
I’m a native Detroiter and lifelong Michigander who’s always struggled with finding a cohesive list of career development and job training resources in our state. Most of what’s available is scattered across different websites and tends to be super region-specific.
I decided to take on the challenge of creating a free Career Development Directory that anyone in Michigan can use. It’s easy to search and filter by region and tags, so whether you’re in Ann Arbor or elsewhere, you can find opportunities like job training programs, internships, tech bootcamps, and more.
This is a personal project I started for myself, but I realized how helpful it could be for others too. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Does something like this sound useful for you or someone you know? Is there anything you think I should add?
I’m hoping to keep this tool updated and as helpful as possible, so any feedback from the Ann Arbor community would mean a lot. Let me know what you think! 🙌
Hi there! I’m new to Ann Arbor and have never driven in snowy conditions or in extremely cold weather. I’m hoping to get some tips on driving/parking my car. I have a BMW SUV and luckily have covered parking. But I’m worried about what to do when I’m going out to work (no covered parking) or at a place for a while (and snow will build on top). If it’s actively snowing, and there’s a lot of snow on the ground, should I even drive? When does AA salt the roads? I’ve acquired a shovel, windshield cover, and a windshield brush. 😂
Any tips? I’ve lived in California my entire life, so I am just an avocado toast! 😅
Edit: Thank you so much for the kind comments so far! <3 Please keep them coming!
