Confused by adoption rules

I’ve been looking to adopt a dog. There is a local rescue that has very strict rules. They want to you own your home, have a fenced yard, and not leave home for more than 3 hours at a time.

Where I live to own a home with a fenced yard means you’re a multi-millionaire. That generally requires a job and/or serious family money, often both. Are they really only considering wealthy retirees or am I missing something here? Yes, I get that some people work from home but this is changing post-covid.

Would someone explain how this equation works? I know lots of loving pet parents who aren’t millionaires, why this odd requirement?

How to help a street dog without being ng bitten

Two stray dogs have lived in front of our apartment for long time and I have only now recently warmed up to them. Recently there was road construction work done in front of our apartment and the dogs had stepped on the wet tar and have covered themselves with tar and small stones , one in particular has covered half of his face with small stones. I have Googled stuff as to what to do but I am scared how they will react if I pour oil on them to rub of the tar , how do I go about it without getting bitten by them hopefully. They normally let me pet them.

🚨🐾 Help Needed for Bonnie & Clyde 🐾🚨

I need your help with two incredible dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, whom I recently found outside an Ace Hardware store. I was able to safely secure and care for them for several days. Unfortunately, due to space limitations at home and my husband's health issues, I had to make the difficult decision to surrender them to BARC.

  • Bonnie: A gentle and possibly pregnant female
  • Clyde: A sweet male who has started treatment for a suspected staph infection

They were just surrendered today, and I am awaiting updates on their status from BARC. I will share this information as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, I’m reaching out to gather support—whether it's offers to foster, adopt, or provide other forms of assistance.

I am committed to providing financial support for their medical care, transportation, or other needs to assist their transition from BARC to a safer environment.

Please comment, share, or stay tuned for updates. Early expressions of interest and support could make a huge difference in the outcome of these two.

”Adopt” wild animal for girlfriend as a gift

Hi! My girlfriend loves animals and has had a pretty rough start of the year. Her birthday is coming up soon and I want to adopt a wild animal so she can receive updates and such.

I have already decided that I want to donate to www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org myself. The thing I’m most worried about is that the animal might die. I don’t think my gf could cope with that. Do you think it would be a good idea to adopt an animal from www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org for myself and also an animal for her?

Is www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org ”safe” or do the poor animals die often? I know this sounds selfish, but I’m trying go balance my girlfriend’s mental health with doing a good thing.

Protest South Dakota governor!

Governor Kristi Noem purposely shot a 14 month old puppy because he wasn't a) controlled off leash and B) a good hunter (though it had never been trained. Then she shot and killed a helpless goat! And boasted about it in her book!

I would love to see all rescues inundate her office with protests!!! That pup could have been trained, adopted out, or sent to an organization that would find a good home. Rise up! Hold her accountable! (And make this a teaching moment to all!)

Volunteering with a young kid

Hello. My son is turning 9 soon. He wants a dog. I love cats and dogs, but I don't want any more pets. I'm interested in volunteering and so is my son, but I'm sure he's too young (legally and for his own safety) to volunteer at any of our local shelters.

Are there any ways to get my son & I involved together in helping or otherwise interacting with dogs, or will I just need to wait until he is older?

Thanks.
