Hi - I know this has been asked before but the suggestions I've seen have not worked for me. I use Android Auto and Google Maps and am trying to figure out better options for sharing my trip progress. I like to share a link to contacts on Whats App - this is what I did before I was using Android Auto (previously had an older car that couldn't do it).
From what I can tell Android Auto won't share my progress with anything other than contacts' emails. I did try that option and the person whose email I supposedly shared it to said he just got a Google Maps link that showed him his current location, not mine. One of the frequent suggestions for this seems to be to make sure you are logged in to your main Google account, not an alternate. I only have one (I checked!). Not sure what else to try. Help? I'm fine with sharing by email if I can get that to actually work.
I also shared from my phone before connecting it to Android Auto and apparently that didn't work either.
Since I upgraded my phone (Sony Xperia 1 VI) to Android 15, it's now propagating it's display settings to Android Auto. So if I turn on 'extra dim', it will also dim the AA display in the car. But worse is that it also turns yellow when Night Light turns on after sunset. The display is already quite a warm colour, so it's too much. It hampers readability and it looks ugly.
Is there any way to make it independent again?
I recently bought an antique car that has no audio: no speakers, no antenna, nor even any place in the dash for DIN stereo. I'm going to add a 12v jack, but I'd like to find a small tablet (maybe 7-8" diagonal) adapted to acting as a car head unit that can run android apps and that either has its own speakers or has a built-in amp that can power external speakers. Does anyone know if such a thing exists or have any recommendations?
Hi,
I’m having a frustrating issue with Android Auto and could really use your help. Whenever I’m on a call and Google Maps gives a navigation prompt (like “Take a left”), I suddenly can’t hear the other person on the call anymore. They can still hear me, but I’m left in silence.
Here’s my setup:
Head Unit: Visteon RCD 340 Car: VW Polo Phones Tested: Nothing Phone (2) and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Has anyone else experienced this or found a solution? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Question, can you use one of these AA dongles even if your car already has wireless AA? I ask because at least 2 or 3 times a week AA will just refuse to start up, even though it's perfectly connected via Bluetooth. And the only option is to basically go thru the pairing process again or do a reset on my headunit. This on a 2024 Hyundai Grand i10 and my S24U. Video: when it doesn't launch automatically I'll hit the connect button on the headunit and will show "trying to connect to my S24U" for about 10 seconds to finally say it can't connect. Help!
Hello! My mom recently got a new phone — Samsung S24+ and shortly afterward her android auto stopped working in her 2022 Honda CRV. I have uninstalled updates, restarted the infotainment system and her phone, and got a new USB and nothing has worked. The USB connection is charging the phone, but when it’s plugged in, no messages pop up on the display — it doesn’t recognize that she has plugged it in at all.
Does anyone know what to do for this? Is it the new phone model? We did go to Honda in case and they tested an iPhone and that worked fine bringing up Apple CarPlay.
And/or, is there a different system she can use other than android auto??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know how can I play YouTube Videos on my Android Auto screen. Since the android 14 update I can't seem to find out any workaround on it morally have given up. However I still want to know is there any perticular app/way on making it work again. Please help me.
So just last week my phone suddenly would not work with my wireless AA adaptor I've been using for a year and a half (Motorola Ma1).
After trying all sorts of things to get it to work I decided to just go back to plugging my phone in.
But now I am getting random disconnects where it just says the phone is not responding.
I am using an official cable which has never let me down before and the timing of the disconnects is totally random.... My trip to work is 40 minutes.... Some days I don't get any issues, today I got one within 2 minutes of being connected. Normally a quick unplug and replug fixes it, but today I had to unplug and wait about 5 minutes before it would work again.
Anyone seen this, or know of any sort of fix.
I'm running a Samsung galaxy s24 ultra on Android 14, oneUI 6.1.....everythibg is up to date
I recently bought a 2009 Toyota Corolla and wanted to install a backup camera. I figured I might as well upgrade the radio to something that could handle Android Auto. I went to a shop recommended by the salesman who sold me the car. The shop recommended and installed the Pioneer DMH-1770 as well as a backup camera.
The camera is great. The head unit . . . well, the problem is that the connection is a 3.5mm jack, not a USB port, so I haven't been able to connect. I bought an adapter that linked the jack to a male USB-C port, but the system apparently doesn't recognize it. Nor does it recognize the USB ports from the adapter plugged into the cigarette lighter (not that I expected that, but you've got to try everything).
I'm definitely going back to the shop to get them to correct the problem. What I need to know from you good people is what I should ask for. To remove the 3.5mm jack and replace it with a USB port? Something else? Or do I just need a higher-end adapter? Or does it just take a long time for the app to recognize the connection?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
My car will not let me type in google maps or spotify unless the handbrake is engaged. This is very annoying as it's much easier to search by typing (when I have a passenger or stopped without handbrake on). Does anyone know a current method to over write this setting? I am rooted and have magisk - maybe there's a module that can do this? I've tried AA tweaker which doesn't seem to work, I've also got GMS Flags but haven't found a flag that does this..
thanks,
I'm looking to get an Android Auto for my van but I am in a bit of a unique situation.
I'm disabled and use a wheelchair so I don't drive, I have a modified van with the passenger seat removed and I sit next to the driver. I got it in 08 so so the stereo is just radio and CD with no aux or bluetooth so I very much want to upgrade.
I got recommended AA but the problem is I can't reach the unit and even if I could I have very limited hand movement, but I can use a phone easily.
So is it at all possible to operate the AA unit from the phone or at least just the Spotify?
Recently replaced a Sync 2 unit with Sync 3 in Ford vehicle, when using android auto via USB, the built in maps show nothing, just a cursor on blank map image, if I request Google Maps by voice, the assistant responds with "That application is not available on this device" Other applications work fine, Spotify, Siruis XM, Google Chat. Just hoping there's some simple setting I'm missing? !flair 2013 Ford Focus | Sync 3| Galaxy S24
I'd really like to still be able to plug my phone in to charge it while using a wireless AA connection. Are there any wireless adapters that have a USB port for charging? Unfortunately the only outlet in my car is the one that's wired into the head unit.
I have a 2025 Discovery Sport with built in wireless Android Auto. My previous car didn't have built in wireless so I used MA1 for many years flawlessly.
There are some quirks with how the built in wireless AA connects in the new car (doesn't always launch automatically...) so I tried my MA1 adapter and couldn't get it to work.
Should 3rd party wireless AA adapters still work in cars with built in wireless AA? I disabled wireless AA in car setting. Also MA1 cord is USB A but the car is USB C. I got a cheap adapter from Amazon. Not sure if that's the issue. I can get MA1 reset, paired to my phone but then it just blinks green and nothing...
Hello,
Every time I receive a new email, the subjects of all unread messages are read aloud by AA. Is there an option to have an announce of only the newly received message?
i have AA wireless working my Hyundai Ioniq5 for the past 11 months. the phone's wifi connects to the AA box but off course i can still get online because the phone has 4g data.
today, the phone refused to get online. when the car was Off, off course i was able to get online again on phone via 4G.
yes, i have enabled "Switch to mobile data" in Advanced option of my wifi in the Samsung Note9 phone (Android 10) but no luck with the AA wireless box. anything else i can try?
I have a Samsung Galaxy A54 and a headunit running android and car link 2.0 app, wired AA works perfectly but wireless lags hard until I turn off Bluetooth on the phone while keeping AA on then suddenly any sort of lag disappears completely. This happens on my phone and other people's phones.
My phone is updated to the latest software and I tried messing with the developer options but nothing made a difference.
Is it possible that since both wifi and Bluetooth share the same chip, phone can't use wifi to the fullest with Bluetooth turned on ? Anyone was able to solve this ?

Voice recognition seems to be getting steadily worse. It was very good for a long time and over the past 3 months or so the "Hey Google" is fine, but then "Call Joe Smith" is hit or miss.
The transcription on the screen is correct but about 50% of the time it responds "Ok, who do you want to call?", with a list on the screen that doesn't include "Joe Smith". When I say "Joe Smith", about 50% of the time it works and the other 50% it says "Ok" and then ends without placing the call, or it asks again who I want to call (again the transcription on the screen is correct).
Is it possible that I need to retrain the voice recognition or something?
Both softwares are up to date (AA and the phone).
I built myself a head unit that runs Openauto Pro.
It has been working great while using android auto 12.5 however since a couple weeks I have been forced to update android auto again and again and this has stopped my headunit from projecting android auto, This is why I want to stick to android auto 12.5 for now but even with auto updates turned off, every time I try to connect my headunit android auto tells me to update or exit.
Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
Thanks!
Everytime someone calls me via telegram I have to manually select speaker mode on my phone and use my phone instead of the car as telegram calls are not transferring to my car, which is a safety concern. Anyone knows how to fix this?
Hello I'm having problem with my 9 pro xl getting android auto to work properly.
In wired mode it will connect once (initial setup) then once I disconnect it won't connect ever again unless I clean cache etc and uninstall android auto. But I have found a way for it to work and connect every time and that is to turn on usb debugging, without it won't work.
I then tried Bluetooth adapter (the Motorola one) and same thing happens. will work the first time then never again unless I redo everything. I found no work around.
Id prefer to use wireless but if I can't find a way to fix this I guess I'm stuck.
I've tried all sorts of cables, resetting my car MMI etc
Tried following the instructions, found them to be confusing, what to do?
I noticed that Driving Mode DnD from Maps settings doesn't happen with Android Auto navigation, only when you start it on the phone. Is this normal behavior?
I also know in the Google settings within the settings app there's an option to automatically enable DnD when the phone detects driving. Does this work with Android Auto?
Hello everyone, I've seen this topic come up before, but I haven't really found an answer. So, with my car (a 2018 Seat Leon), I use Android Auto with a cable on a samsung galaxy s24+, but my phone charges very slowly—around 10 hours to get 50%. This morning, I borrowed a colleague's car (a Ford Focus), and this time it took less than 10 minutes to charge my phone, even though I only needed to charge 15%. And he was also using a cable. Does anyone have an explanation?
I use AA often, mostly for maps or to listen to music through Spotify. I drove yesterday and it worked normally, but today the UI seemed to have been updated, and there were no longer ANY audio controls, even inside the spotify widget, and the back/forward buttons on my wheel that normally interact with spotify did nothing. Only controls that worked were the ones directly on my phone screen.
Was there an update today, or any known issues that would cause this? If an update, is there a way to roll it back? 😭 its awful
Hi, my setup is a Pixel 9 Pro running AA over CarPlay on a AAWireless dongle in my 2019 Mercedes C-Class. I ran into some problems today, when i navigated to Spotify or the app drawer on AA my phone rebooted. Anybody else with the same issue? I'm not sure what part of my setup is causing the issue, so I'm happy with any hint I can get. Cheers
Google Maps does not display properly, no split home screen just Google maps
I have a Chinese AA wireless unit and my Google maps is always in full screen, and will not process any taps on the maps screen. and there is no split screen home screen like normal. There is also a small search button in the corner and it recognizes when I press it but does not do anything else. If you click out of maps you get your app drawer. This was an issue in the past and after searching this reddit page for this issue and all past solutions are not working for me. I have tried: Uninstalling google app and RE updating Leaving Google app beta ( was not in it in the first place so joined and left I heard this fixes this) Using AA devolperb options to force 800x600 Clear cache with maps Google and Android auto app Restart phone I cannot tell if the unit is having resultion issues or something else. In My head this seems like a resultion issue, as all of the proper maps buttons do appear for a split second when I boot the unit but then disappear. ANY ADVICE HELPS because the unit works, just specifically not maps. (Also tried Waze app same exact issue once again buttons not properly appearing makes me think it is a resultion thing) another detail is the AA unit is VERY small, built for a motorcycle around 5 inches.
Hi all, I just bought a beautiful 2017 Subaru Outback and I love most aspects of it. The only thing that infuriates me is the complete lack of software support for the head unit! I was told by the Subaru dealer that, outside of swapping the head unit out for an aftermarket product, there's nothing I can do!
I've been browsing around some forms for a solution and I've found several related resources: several firmware updates for unrelated issues.
Here comes the question: does anybody know of any firmware update (official or not) that might enable such functionality? I know there nothing technologically limiting this feature - it just needs to be done! I'll write the code myself if I have to. I just need to collect as much information about the issue as possible! Has anybody come across and subsequently defeated this problem?
