Ay everyone. Let's get some ideas going for a new challenge to begin shortly!
The only rules for this one are you have to build the camera! It can be as simple as a #10 can or as complex as your machining skills allow.
The bonus, this is something your other photographer friends can do as well, so bring a friend along on your adventure!
Challenge #42 (or #5 this year) is Activism, or the Voice of the People!
Because of a few protests earlier this year, I'm going to retroactively start it on January 1, 2018. This means any picture taken so far in 2018 qualifies.
Submissions will close one month after the tenth submission and there will be time for voting after that.
Go take pictures of people passionately expressing their beliefs! Multiple submissions will be allowed.
Submissions can be submitted as individual threads on this subreddit but MUST be submitted as comments in here to be included in the voting! Pictures must be shot after 1 January and before the challenge close date and on film (or anything Analog) as a medium.
Happy shooting! Bring a friend!
Challenge #41 (or #4 this year) is Spring!
Submissions will close two weeks after summer starts and there will be time for voting after that.
Go take pictures of the beauty of life!
Submissions can be submitted as individual threads on this subreddit but MUST be submitted as comments in here to be included in the voting! Pictures must be shot during Spring of this year (dates listed in the title) on film as a medium.
Happy shooting! Bring a friend!
Challenge #3 is silence or isolation.
Thanks to /u/ForestFolk for the suggestion :)
Rules:
Images must be shot within the dates for the challenge, starting February 7 and continuing until 30 days after the 10th entry has been submitted!
Photos must be shot on film as the medium; however they can be scanned from film or printed and then scanned. Both color and black and white are allowed.
In order to participate in the contest, entries must be made as comments in this thread. This is because Reddit has a nifty contest mode that masks votes during the challenge and randomizes entries.
That said, you are encouraged to post the picture as a link to the subreddit to share :)
You may only upvote your own entry once. Violators of this will be banned.
One entry is allowed per person. However, feel free to submit more to the sub just for fun! They won't count, but who cares? The point of the challenges are to try new things and share them. If you share alternates in your comment in the challenge, make sure they are clearly designated as not your actual entry.
Get your friends to join in! Analog is so much fun!

I think I've found a cool way to do these. While we have less frequent traffic, we are going to open challenges and wait until there are submissions to close them.
Our first challenge: Emotion
Start date: 1/2/2018
Close date: 30 days after 10th entry
An announcement will be made after the 10th entry to indicate the time frame is closing for the challenge.
We will be opening a new challenge every two weeks and these will follow the same guidelines until we have more participation! Invite your friends to join! If you post in /r/analog, set your flair to say "/r/analogchallenge if you want.
Challenge winners will have their image posted on our Instagram, @analogchallenge, which I'm currently working on getting up to date. I would like to have each winner featured on the sidebar like /r/analog does with the top photo of the week as well.
In the comments below, please make suggestions for future challenges! There is a good chance they will be used at some point, so post your ideas!
Okay my questions are these:
In the past, we have done a rolling challenge schedule to allow for time to develop and print. Is a one month challenge an ideal time? Too fast, slow, etc? Should we do weekly but announce future challenges early? I want your thoughts!
Do you print in the darkroom or scan your negatives?
What percent do you shoot in color vs black and white?
What assignments have you enjoyed (eg in school, for freelance work, etc)?
Would fewer challenges per year or lots of challenges be better?
I'll introduce myself and make a topics post this week :)
Our next challenge is dusk; This can be a skyline at dusk, water at dusk, a towns Main st at dusck, etc.
The image can be taken anytime. Post your submissions as a new comment on this post One submission per person Challenge winners can choose the next challenge topic. The winner from this challenge will choose the challenge topic for the 04/15/2017 challenge. Please upvote your choices. The Winner will be selected 7 days after the challenge ends. Please don't downvote submissions. Have fun :)
Firstly I would like to introduce myself as a new mod of /r/analogchallenge. I have had an interest in film photography for many years and am just getting back into while working on a setup for shooting and developing 16mm film.
Our next challenge is analog office equipment; which can include mechanical typewriters, printing presses, phone switch boards, etc.
The image can be taken anytime. Post your submissions as a new comment on this post One submission per person Challenge winners can choose the next challenge topic. The winner from this challenge will choose the challenge topic for the 04/01/2017 challenge. Please upvote your choices. The Winner will be selected 7 days after the challenge ends. Hey guys!
It's been a fun year and a half of running the challenges, but I'm getting busier lately and it's only going to get worse. I also missed the end of the last challenge 10 days ago, and I feel terrible about that.
Would anyone like to take over? I would like to remain here and help out, but someone to take over the main portion of it would be really great. It's not a lot of work, mainly opening new contests and closing old ones on the 1st and 15th and announcing winners on the 7th and 22nd.
There are still 5 days left to contact the last winner and get a new contest up, so we can keep the momentum going and keep the contests continuing.
Also, any suggestions on bringing in new people and getting the engagement up a little? It seems to have picked up again recently, but a few months ago there were contests with 1 or 0 entries.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks :)
From Winner #32 /u/tteubal, our next topic is:
Travel Photography
Any images taken while traveling outside of your town/country/area.
There were no entries for Challenge #31, so for this challenge I have chosen:
Celebration!
There were no entries for challenge #30, so I've chosen our new topic:
Cars
The image can be of a car, have a car in it, be taken inside a car, anything to do with cars/trucks/SUVs.
There were no entries for Challenge #29, so for this challenge I have chosen:
Shadows
From Challenge #28 Winner /u/Ektemusikk, our new challenge topic is:
