Need some advice for a tomato frog

Need advice on what to buy

I have a tomato frog, currently I use a heat lamp on top and heating pad under the tank, I am buying a misting system to keep humidity up, but I want a better method to keep up temp. I feel like the pad doesn't do much, and I'm not sure the light does either.

I have one of the temp/humidity gages in the 20 gallon tank, but I'm not sure I trust the accuracy of it.

I've heard of covering the mesh lid to keep in moisture and heat, but I think I'd rather buy an already covered lid (for looks, if I did it i'll definitely make it ugly lol) I've seen some silicone lids online so maybe something like that? I've also seen conflicting reports on a fully covered lid or half cover. Also not sure what to use with a ceramic heater or lamp.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What should I get??

I recently found a 15 gallon reptile tank outside my local university’s dorm rooms. Found it with a few hide spots, a bowl, heat lamps, and a grate/cover for the top. I’m wanting to make it into a live terrarium but am unsure of what I should put in it critter wise. I am experienced with keeping all kinds of animals and have many plants at home that I care for as well. I had two crested geckos when I was a kid. Each lived for a few years. I’ve been wanting to start a terrarium for a while but just haven’t brought myself to buy all the supplies so this works out perfectly. I was thinking of getting a green tree frog to go in it because I’ve heard they’re reasonably easy to care for and would do good with living plants and insects. Looking for any advice on terrarium setup, pet suggestions, literally any advice someone wants to give I will take lol

Any amphibian ideas for a 20 gallon long?

I got a 20 long for my Leo when she was a tiny baby, but she’s outgrown it quickly. So now I have a spare tank I’d love to fill with something that can be happy there it’s whole life. It’s currently dessert scaped but redoing it tropical would be fun. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Edit: I have two reptiles and aquariums, so I’m not a complete newby. Although my only amphibian is an axolotl. Lots of research will be done before getting anything, just looking for suggestions of where to start!

My baby frog isnt moving!!

I feel so terrible right now. I hope i didnt hurt my frog. I raised my frog since he was a tadpole. Today was the first day he went onto land, i saw him outside of his small pond. Hes about the size of I picked him up to take photos, he was alive and moving. First, he jumped maybe 8 inches off of my hand but fell into an inch of water. Later, he hopped off of my hand down about two feet, onto carpet. He was alive then, i put him into his pond. He was moving at first but then I noticed his feet were stretched outwards and he wasnt moving… i put him on a moist leaf in case hes not unalived… is he okay??? I feel so horrible. I really hope hes okay i never meant to hurt him. I feel so horrible right now, ill edit if anything happens.

Tiger Salamander Rescue

So! We were pumping out our pool today, and found this guy living in the mud and muck! Normally we find skinks and lizards in our pool and we just put them out in our backyard. However, we live in a very dry and hot climate, here in New Mexico, so im worried this guy might have a hard time finding another moist place to stay if we were to just put him out in the backyard! There is a duck pond not too far away but im worried about the ducks maybe preying upon him! I don’t know much about amphibians, so.. What do you guys think I should do with him? Wish I could keep him but I just don’t have the setup for him at the moment and it would feel a little wrong! Very cute though!

Tiniest Frogs I’ve Ever Seen

I recently moved to North Carolina and started seeing frogs again, all was normal until today. I went out to the back porch during a rainstorm and noticed some small dark spots a little further away. I checked them out and they turned out to be frogs, but smaller than any frog I’ve ever seen. I’m curious what kind of frogs these are because they’re adorable, if anyone knows that would be great!

Tennis ball for reference :)

I need help!

My girlfriend and I want to house some amphibians. We are looking for a unique pet/talking piece/plant life for our house. So we want to build a custom vivarium to house some geckos or frogs or newts even. But we don’t have a clue what we are doing or what we should know before we get into it. Is there anything I should know? Is there any type of frog we should stay away from or geckos we should steer clear of? Has anyone built their own vivarium before? What plants do I put into it? Is it worth it to build it myself? Where do I find these pets? Thanks in advance everyone!

Can anyone identify?

Hi there,

My husband just found this guy outside while doing yard work. We're in BC Canada. Does anyone who what type this is, or if they're poisonous? We'd eventually like to relocate him, so any tips would be great. Thanks!

ID - tiny salamander TN

I was on Cicada-watch in middle Tennessee (USA) and noticed this “worm” with a head. Then I noticed eyes. Then I saw tiny legs! It was a salamander!

I did the best I could at night. 2.25in/6cm in length on a tree root. What is it?

I was very excited. I have not seen a salamander in maybe 40 years - not since a kid on the west coast.

Found Spotted Salamander Eggs on Land

I was doing some trail maintenance in Massachusetts today and flipped a log. Underneath were what looked to be a male, and still gravid female spotted salamanders. But what was odd was between them was what looked to me like an egg mass. If you zoom in on the picture, above the female and to the right of the male, the mass can be seen. I've read that they lay their eggs in vernal pools. Will these eggs survive on land? Is there anything I can/should do?

I moved the sals out of the way and gently flipped the log back over and placed both sals beside the log. They both quickly slipped back under the log.
