Backgrounds for OLED phones, mainly black for screen power saving and contrast.
Welcome! The images in this subreddit have been designed to be primarily true black (#000000). As it turns out, AMOLED displays turn off the individual pixels meant to display true black, thereby giving an infinite contrast ratio which makes pictures look more vibrant. Plus, it can save power and it's easier on the eyes in lower-lit environments.
Contribute if you can, vote on the content you like, and remember to subscribe!
Note: If your art was posted here without your permission, please message the moderators.
Your submissions should be at least 50% true black (#000000).
Submissions should be at least 50% true black in colour, as in #000000; for album/gallery submissions, the lowest true black percentage across all of the images must be at least 50%. Moderators reserve the ability to keep certain Rule-1 exceptions up if we feel they're close enough to 50% true black and make a solid contribution to the subreddit. If your post was removed for R1 and you're sure it had over 50% true black, please submit it as a PNG instead of JPG/jpeg.
Requests go in the stickied requests thread.
Don't create new submissions for requests, please use the stickied requests thread instead. If you're looking for a type/genre of wallpaper, please use the search bar or follow this guide. This frees up the front page and draws focus to the wallpapers.
Tag submission titles with the image resolution.
Tag your post's title with the resolution (horizontal first, then vertical). For some examples, take a look at the posts on the front page of the subreddit. It is also suggested to include a tag for the aspect ratio if you're using a common one (e.g. [9:16], [9:18.5]).
Be ready to provide an uncompressed link.
Most of the popular and convenient image hosts (including reddit's built-in image uploader) will compress most images to save costs on bandwidth. For example, Imgur lossily compresses images that are over 5MB in size (or 1MB for anonymous uploads). If requested, you should be able to upload your image to a site like vgy.me, and link it in your comments. Google Drive and Dropbox are not recommended unless you know what you're doing, as you may unintentionally dox yourself.
Reposts are allowed under specific conditions
Reposting on this subreddit is allowed for wallpapers that weren't previously featured. However, the original post or last repost must be no less than 90 days old and you must credit the original poster with either a username tag or a link to the source in the comments. Unless posting a much higher quality/resolution version, this includes variants of previously-posted wallpapers as well. Note: 100% true black wallpapers are also included under this rule, as they're common reposts.
Do NOT post wallpapers that were originally made for premium wallpaper apps or were created by a blacklisted artist.
Live wallpapers are not allowed
Please do not post any live wallpapers as we have no method to automatically check their true black percentage and check them against Rule 1.
Include your source in the comments of your submission
Include your submission source in a top-level comment on your post (include one of the keywords source
, credit
, or original
in your comment). Repeatedly breaking this rule may result in a temporary ban. You may use resources such as TinEye and Google Image Search to help you find original sources. If you completely created the image yourself, please add [OC]
to the title of your submission or in a top-level comment on your submission.
