Just a space for lovers of American Staffordshire Terriers and Pit Bull Terriers. This is a safe place for enthusiasts to discuss the breeds, and show off their own pets:) With all the negativity surrounding them, this is also a place to show what wonderful breeds they are, and how bad owners equal bad dogs!

she’s the sweetest cuddliest neediest funniest pound pup i could have ever asked for! she’s about 10 now, but still acts like a 1 year old dog. despite coming from an abusive home, she’s always been a good girl.
Hello! I recently rescued an American Staffordshire Terrier from the shelter. He’s 1-2 yo and we got him neutered monday morning and brought him home that night. My partner was the one who went to the shelter to pick him out & also to pick him up (I was working).
Our first night was great. He was sweet, gentle, and warmed up to me great. I noticed some separation anxiety towards my partner; for example if we both left but only I came back, the dog was still looking for my partner. But overall day 1 went great.
The morning of day 2 the dog randomly growled and barked at me without notice. His body language actually read as wanting affection put as I pet him his demeanor switched in an instance. I immediately yelled one firm no, walked and turned away. The dog put his tail and ears down and seemed to know he did something wrong.
I went to work and I guess the dog did the same thing to my mom (lives with us). When I came home and my partner told me, my partner said he’ll give the dog 3 more strikes to get acclimated. But that same night the dog got aggressive with my randomly again. Only this time he air nipped at me. Once again showed signs that he understood the reprimand… and the dog at other moments show me great body language and wants my attention/affection.
Any thoughts to share that can bring me some comfort in decision making here? Thanks.
Our new girl Dakota! She’s going to be one spoiled little girl!
This is Polly, I got her about 6 months ago. She's now 2. She's sweet as can be. About 52 lbs. Loves to lay around with her people. Loves to chase squirrels. This is my first time owning a large breed, says Pit Mix on her papers.. thoughts ?.
My name is Roger Amador, and today I reach out with a heavy heart, seeking your support in a battle for justice—a battle not just for my beloved dog, Chanel, but for every pet owner who trusts their animals to the care of institutions that vow to protect them.
Chanel was not just a pet; she was a new member of my family. My whole family was excited to give her a loving home. From the moment I met her during our initial meet and greet at Miami Dade Animal Services (MDAS), her affectionate demeanor and obedience captured my heart. After completing the adoption process and paying the adoption fee, I was devastated when MDAS suddenly deemed Chanel dangerous and refused to release her to me, despite having previously agreed to let her come home. Instead they killed her.
MDAS insisted on spaying Chanel themselves, violating Dade County law, which entitles every adopter to choose their own veterinarian with a simple $100 deposit and a neuter\spay contract. The procedure at MDAS left her in excruciating pain, unable to rise from her kennel. When she instinctively growled in pain as they attempted to force her out of her kennel, they labeled her a threat and tragically ended her life. This action was not only heartless but also illegal, as under Florida law, Chanel was legally mine the moment the adoption was finalized.
The individuals responsible include Director Annette Jose, Gilda Nuñez, Georgina Vargas, Tracy Bravo, Heather Keenan, Maria Serrano, and Alejandra Duran, then falsified entries in Chanel's records to cover their tracks. This injustice cannot stand.
I have been fighting MDAS to hold them accountable and prevent such cruelty from happening to others. But I cannot do this alone. Please, help me secure justice for Chanel and safeguard the rights of all pets and their owners. Your support is a stand against injustice and a move towards a more compassionate world for our beloved animals. Please share this story far and wide. Search on FB for Chanel MDAS for many posts on the killing of Chanel.

Thank you for your compassion and support. Together, we can make a difference.
This pup just showed up on a local shelter page, but it just says 'mixed breed'. Does he look like a 5 months old Amstaff to you? Or more of mix? Thanks :)
This is my amstaff duke! He’s 7 years old and the biggest lover boy I’ve ever known. Never had a dog as affectionate as him

I am looking for a home for my amstaff, extremely affectionate, only responsible people...
Alright here’s the situation:
I have a 10 months-old female AmStaff in a household with two cats and another female dog, a 3 year old husky. I have no kids and live alone apart from my GF visiting me almost every day as we live next door.
The AmStaff came as a puppy, around 3 months, all other pets were already here and the husky already an adult kind of adopted her and raised her as a mother, tho now acts more like an older sister, as is at the moment clearly the dominant.
The issue is this. I have heard horror stories about AmStaff killing other pets without previous notice. Although I have different and often contradictory versions of it so I wanted to hear your advises:
From one extreme to the other: An ethologist and dog trainer was brought when she was still a pup. He told me is excellent I have the huski as she was separated too young from her mother and with the huski she will learn how to play, behave, etc. That she needs to be well socialized, meet other dogs and cats, know kids and people in general as a puppy. I did all that, walking her on the park since puppy years were she met humans, including kids (that seem to like her), other dogs, etc. Same with my cats and my GF’s cat.
A dog walker friend of mine told me than once she reaches between one year and year and half she’ll become more aggressive and will be a danger for the other pets if left unsupervised.
According to my GF she was told once that the reason why AmStaffs attack (as was told to her by someone who had one who attacked a child and had to go to a seminar about it) is because they accumulate a lot of stress which eventually explodes. This stress is the product of things like be tied up all day, having nothing to do, be lock indoors all day, etc. I must say I have a big backyard she can go, she’s never tied, she has a lot of toys and even bones I buy for her to bite, and of course have her sister to play and we go to the park although not every day.
A dog trainer which I think is merely empirical but has a radio show and a popular academy told me when asked what could I do his answer was a plain: “nothing, she will attack the other pets some day or a child or elderly person, that how they are”. When asked what can be done with AmStaff his answer was: "not having one”.
And yes I know he sounded too unprofessional and like he had something personal against the breed. But still I can’t discarded as of yet his words until I see further opinions.
Well that will be basically it. Which one was right or was anyone? And what can I do to secure the safety of the other pets? Thank you.
I have no idea what he wants and he moans when he doesn’t have anything to do. He won’t come and see me but he stops moaning when I check on him. Any ideas? Maybe he’s training me!
