The subreddit for the autonomous swedish speaking region of Finland named The Åland Islands.
For Aalanders of Reddit.
Posts in scandinavian languages or English are welcome
To the finns who think this is unfair, remember : Åland is a monolingual part of Finland with swedish as the official language. (And the people of Åland suck at finnish)
Thinking of coming to Åland for vaccation?
Check out the Wiki to see some things to do and see.

Jag såg just ett program om skolflyktingar. Många verkar vara totalt knasiga. En del behöver nog hjälp. Vad tycker ni ålänningar om dem?
Hey 👋 I'm considering doing an exchange semester at the technical university of åland but I have some questions and I'm desperate for help How's life there ? I have seen some YouTube videos where it says it gets depressing in winter and you can't make any friends is this true or they exaggerating? How expensive is it ? Websites like numbo aren't really accurate at all Is it hard to find part time jobs ? I speak English, Spanish Arabic and some Italian and willing to learn Swedish if I get accepted Thanks in advance
Hello :-) I plan to depart for a week from Stockholm second week of September and sail towards Aland Islands, Maybe also via Turku or other destinations. My 5 person crew is experienced regardless conditions. Can you recommend a route? We love to sail as much as possible, enjoy sightseeing, and need to sleep as little as needed, regardless weather. What would be the most inspiring route through Aland Islands?
hi, im planning to visit the åland island this summer. where should i stay? how many days should i stay?
Hi, I was just wondering why the Âland islands aren’t a part of Sweden, seeing as they speak Swedish, and are also very close together
Hi there :)
I am planning to go to Åland Islands next year during summer. As I collect rocks and mostly pebbles, I wanted to ask a few questions:
Thank you so much for any information provided, I will post the same questions in the subreddit for Finland too.
Bye :)
Hi, moving to Åland in a few months. What do you recommend regarding buying a car in Sweden and paying tullen? Or buying a more expensive car at Åland? Or maybe Finland is even more cheap?
I only need the car for transportation, do you know anyone that sells car in Åland that I could contact?
Thanks in advance!

I am planning on going to the Åland islands next year and I have two questions
Why are there so many red roads?
When does the touristic season start when not many people come yet?
Thank you very much for answers!
Hi everybody,
I want to move my family to Åland. The timeframe for the move is 10-12 months from now.
I´ll work as a freelancer and invoice the company I am working at now. Something they´ve agreed to since they wanna keep me. But I have many questions.
I´ve tried google but I reckon, and hope someone has gone a similar road that can shed some insight and help me out! I´ll gladly pay for the effort if you have insights!
Ollaan siis menossa Ahvenanmaalle joulukuussa ja mietin että mitä kaikkee tekemistä talvella löytyy.
How are things there? Is it safe? What about diseases?
And the prices? and top destinations (natural things like cool waterfalls or anything)
Is there any place where i could buy vape juice or vapes, snus maybe a gas station?
If you are a lawyer in Åland, or you know a lawyer who is that you'd like to refer me to, please DM me :-) thank you very much.
Hello all,
My family and I will be staying in Mariehamn for a few nights and enjoy jumping off diving boards into the sea. Unfortunately, we were unable to find any searching online. Do you know of any near the city or accessible through a day trip on bikes for example?
Thank you
Do you know any interesting historical facts about Åland that are unknown or hard to find? I have been very interested in Åland history and would loge to know everything about everything. Thanks!!!!
I have not yet been in Sweden but I would love to know if Älanders are different than Swedes. Are you more conservative than Swedes? Thank you for all the anwsers!!!!
I have a question about the tourism in Äland because I am currenrly in the Faroe Islands and online they that the islands get around 200000 visitors annually. There are barwly any tourists here in Tórshavn. Is that the same in Äland? Are there very little tourists and are there many immigrants from asia/africa? Thank tou for anwsers.
I'm trying to buy stocks in Eckerölinjen but as a Swedish citizen it seems impossible.
Not one bank even allows me to open an account? I thought that was allowed by EU law but I'm told that doesn't count in Åland by both Ålandsbanken and Andelsbanken.
My father owns houses and land here but since I'm not a registered owner of that property it doesn't matter since I have any connection to it, which is fair but how do I do it then?
All I want is to be able to buy stock and I can do it i a all other Nordic countries, even the world, without any issues..
Any suggestions are welcome.
TIA!
Hej!
I was wondering what this word "nefe" or something similar like that means? I have heard people from Åland say it a lot of times in regards of mainland Finns when speaking Finnish.
For example: "Nefet ajavat autoa" is "Nefe's drive a car" in Finnish. What does it mean and from what word is it coming from?
I tried to search the meaning of it, but i never found it. I bet it comes from some Swedish word for sure.
Do you guys learn Finnish in schools?
I'm planning to join my partner on Åland and I am permitted to work while I am there. English is my only language. But I plan to study Swedish at SFI. My previous experience is in customer support. Would I be able to work in a restaurant or store speaking only English? Or would people resent having to switch to English when shopping/ ordering food etc? Any other ideas for jobs I could get speaking only English?
I am visiting Åland this Friday for a day. I am coming by ferry from Turku to Langnas. Ferry arrives at 0100.
I tried looking for some hotels near Langnas or ways to get to Mariehamn. I looked at Booking dot com and also AirBnB
Obviously I found hotels in Mariehamn but I cannot find a way to get there.
Any advice in terms of either getting to Mariehamn at 1am or somewhere to stay in or near Langnas.
I’ve been quoted 70euro by one taxi company but that’s a ridiculous cost. Maybe there are people that are going from port or some other way to share a ride?
Or even a car rental I can pick up in Langnas and return in Mariehamn
Thanks
