I became a flight attendant recently. I don’t have a desire to leave aviation. Benefits are too good. But, I definitely can’t stay with this company; hardly pays anything. I’ve been thinking of joining, would it be better to wait until I find myself working with the airline I want long term (it’s looking like a year potentially slightly more or less until applications are open again for this airline). I would hate to not get hired from them just because I’m in the Air Force reserve.
Is it difficult to obtain a position as a historian? I’m currently a history teacher and approaching my first year in the reserves but 10th year overall in the military. This position sounds like something that I would love to be in but it seems somewhat rare? Opinions? Thoughts? Thanks 😊
Hi all. Currently considering joining the reserve or national guard. Can you share the pros and cons of joining either? What made you decide on reserve or vice versa?
I kind of small and wouldn't say physically strong. Was wondering if anyone could go ahead and share your experience going through the PT
Looking to palace chase with a Sep date of December 2024
There are certain medical things I want to get seen for so that I can have is documented as an active duty member such as hip pain, migraines and acid reflux, so nothing too crazy but is this a bad idea, could these things disqualify me to palace chase/pass a flight physical
I just want to make sure I can get disability when I get out but I’m not sure how it works
What is a good “reasoning” for why I should palace chase…I was told they were looking for more Air Force related stuff than personal reasoning, is this true?
Something like…
After being in the ADAF for X amount of years I now have a desire to serve in the Air Guard. The unit in “XYZ state” has a large need for “AFSC” and needs me to fill a critical vacancy for them. By doing this it would also align with my desire to continue my education and possibly pursue a commission in the future.
Can someone give me a better example than this My Afsc is medical and I have plans on attending college full time when I get out
Currently active duty military (single airman) looking to palace chase to another state. Just want to confirm that even though It’s considered a voluntary separation that the military will still move my stuff to my next station…right?
My follow up question would be how much stuff are they willing to move for a single e4 member. I assume they go off of weight.
Re the email from Gen Healy. Anyone actually heard what positions are being defunded? The email was pretty vague.
I would like to know your guy's thoughts about my position, I am going to get my Bachelors next year and I have my AWS SAA, SEC+, CYSA+, and soon CCNA. I also have my secret level clearance, but I have been having a hard time trying to find a job that is in cyber security, I was looking at joining the Airforce to get my foot in the door this field. I am also 29 years old, married, and have a 3 year old.
Do you think the Air Force will help with my career and goals? I am also thinking of getting my Masters after my Bachelors.
1.Show up on time 2.Pass your PT test 3.Don't get arrested That's right I failed my PT test, this is my first fail and I feel terrible. I know it's not uncommon but dear Lord hopefully the reserves has some mercy, I wanna cry. 😭
Anybody here at Luke? Preferably Mx that has some insights. Thanks!
How often does an Air Force reservist, particularly an officer, have to switch bases? How about units and assignments?
Hi all,
I'm a OR RN. I worked for the VA so I've been a fed employee. Currently interested in becoming a reserve. However, I DO NOT have any medical surgical experience. I got into the OR right out of nursing school. I do have a BSN. I was wondering how does the whole things work? Can I still join?
Also at what age would be too old to join?
I'm quite healthy but I'm not confident with how many physical training there would be. Anyone with any information, please share. thanks!
Hello all, I’m currently an active duty navy E6 with about 8 years in. One of my sons has a bad medical condition that will require lots of care in the future, but I want to spend as much time with him as I can so the active duty navy aspect isn’t going to work. I’ve still got 2 years remaining on my contract, but I was curious if there’s anyone here who made this transition, and if so, how have you liked it?
So the same guy from my leadership who called me a beta male (that’s from an older post) just said I ain’t worth st. So I got told to go to a place on base that I’ve never been before. I asked for directions and I got shown where to on a map. I asked if someone could drop a pin and he over heard and said “young man, if you can’t figure out where to go from looking on a map, you ain’t worth st to us” I don’t think he was joking. I’m starting to feel like they really hate me
I am receiving calls from both Army Reserves and National guard, though I know I want to do either Air guard or Air Reserve after high school. I qualify for both. My main issue is that I have been warned by people I know in the military about recruiters, and my calls with the reserve recruiters always start with “what we offer that national guard doesn’t is…”. I have also done some research and almost everywhere I’ve seen has said the “days a month and 2 weekends a year” is a lie. Yet both guard and reserve are telling me that. I am leaning toward applying for Air National guard, is there anything major that sets the 2 apart?
Im currently AD and really want to go reserves. What can I do to improve my chances of getting approved to palace chase? I applied once before and was rejected due to "manning".
note: I meet the minimum requirements to palace chase (served half my contract, medically qualified etc)
One is that for drill weekends, are there any official guidelines or regulations, especially for what they can keep you for after the drill day hours are over?
And two, has anyone else been an ART and then promptly got fired during probationary period? This is going to make working the reserve weekend so awkward, so maybe this one is just for some comfort or advice. It was just a silly QA fail, ie I used my phone on the flightline because I swear 'for official duty only' meant you could pull it out and turn it on if you're calling your supervisor (and I couldn't leave my position for security reasons).
Honestly, it kind of feels like they're out to get me because I've also been having minor PT problems (track down, couldn't run a mile an a half, never done the HAMR so I failed bc my foot didn't touch the line lmao).
If I could just up and move locations, I would sincerely do it at this point.
Info : I’m 26 , no kids and not married. Living with parents. Working dead end jobs and broke. Also in debt.
Story: I decided to go back to school. currently in community college , finishing up first year. Im not getting fasfa for bs reason.
The above reason are why I’m considering this option. Basically for Tuition assistance and opportunities. Also some direction in life
I know the pay is low, so im considering for the benefits.
From little research I did. Navy doesn’t offer tuition assistance, so I’m just considering army reserves and Air Force reserve. Bummer because I’m in San Diego.
Question: I have 1. How long are contracts? 2. How long does your contract have to be to get full benefits ? 3. What’s all the befits ? 4. Is Air Force reserve harder to join then the army reserve?
Is there a way to get MyPay to automatically login to my Reserve account rather than my separated AD account? or do I gotta deal with this forever >:(
I am an IMA who will be serving on full-time MPA orders for the entirety of FY25 (01 October - 30 September 2025. If we have a baby during this time period, am I eligible for paternity leave? Reading the AFI I keep seeing that in order to qualify you need to serve for "more than 12 consecutive months." I take that to mean you have to serve more than 365 days of orders to qualify, but wanted to verify. Thank you!

"Active component Service members, Reserve component Service members performing Active Guard and Reserve duty or Full-time National Guard Duty (FTNGD) for more than 12 months consecutively; and Reserve Component Service members performing duty under a call or order to active service for more than 12 months consecutively, referred to collectively in this guidance as “members” are covered by this policy. A period of active service of a Reserve component member may not be extended in order to permit the member to take leave authorized under the Military Parental Leave Policy; however, a Service member can be extended on active service following a birth event when determined medically necessary by a competent medical authority."
Hey guys, its my last year on my contract. I have been in for 6 years and its my first contract. My question is, will they kick me out/ not allow me to re enlist because i have 70% VA? I got injured during active duty orders. And decided to claim this year. I want to stay in. I am in the process of re enlisting but im waiting on medical to clear me
I'm going from active duty to reserve, and looking at Reserve Vacancies. The information says to get more info from usajobs.gov but when I put the different codes or whatever into usajobs.gov, nothing comes up. I don't know how to search for it or find specific job info. There's no POC's, etc. How can I find more info on this?
I’m able to find plenty of posts about bumming orders as loadmasters but I am wondering if that is a thing as a SMA. I am palace fronting to retrain into aircrew and it’s hard to see which units are active or not getting a lot missions. Thanks in advance for any input.
Looking to transfer from the 433 and next closest is Dyess, Fort Worth and Barksdale. I live in san antonio
Looking for some insight on how the maintenance tempo is for the 17. Will be going to March AFB.
I heard today from the CFM that my scroll was approved, but ARPC hadn’t yet received my commissioning package from Recruiting. I heard later from my recruiter that it was sent up over a month ago, so I guess it’s still processing… however, she said she’d start working on my “Oath Package” so I could swear in before the end of the month…
Anyone know what an Oath Package is? It’s first heard for me…
Thanks in advance!
Hi all, recently applied for the reserves. Was wondering what my time frame would look like if I were to get accepted. I’m aware of the tests needed to be taken but was wondering what a typical time frame for others looks based on when they applied to them going to BMT. Unsure if I should get my CFI and instruct a little opposed to waiting around for a class date. My goal is the airlines or part 135, and I’m from the Seattle area but open to moving anywhere at this point. TIA.
