I cannot see what units have open slots right now. I hate all these software changes that happen due to contracts.
Hi everyone,
I'm a Registered Nurse in the ER at a VA facility, and I've heard a few of my colleagues being deployed recently. I've tried asking a few people about their experiences with deployment, bout it seems like there's not much openness or information shared around here so I haven't gained much understanding of how deployment works or how it could benefit me.
I'm curious if anyone here can explain the process for a nurse at the VA, particularly those who have worked in the ER, and how I might benefit from being deployed.
I'm open to any advice or insight, and l'd really appreciate it if anyone could share their experiences or offer suggestions on how to get involved with these opportunities.
Thanks in advance!
How high can your VA rating be and still eligible for service?
I keep hearing/being told rating percentage doesn't matter as long as you're still deployable.
In Active Duty, my understanding is you submit your package and get to apply outside of your enlisted career. (i.a. does not have to the be within the same career field). Is that also the case in the reserves? My understanding is it must be within the same within the same, such as if you are finance enlisted and there is a finance officer opening (in the same unit), you can only apply to that job, not to other officer jobs. (E.g. maintenance, intel) Would appreciate if anyone has an insight on this.
I am currently a freshman at a college out of state. I want to do anything i can to stay but the tuition is just so killer. I was under the notion that navy reserves would pay tuition and wanted to go to bootcamp over summer. I recently realized that is not the case and now have no clue what to do. Family situations at home make it really difficult to go active for the foreseeable future. Would love to be able to attend college but honestly have no clue what to do considering the immense debt i would graduate with at the moment. Can anyone give me any advice or insight?
Looking at possibly Intelligence jobs in either branch reserves. It seems that it’s easier to select and get the job you want in the Navy when enlisting. Is that accurate as far as anybody can say?
I have a few job areas I’m looking at in both branches including Cyber, Intelligence, and Aviation. 81 overall on PiCAT and still need confirmation test at MEPS.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
At 17 years and might have to go Deployment Availability Working Group (DAWG) for a recent condition
If I'm deemed not fit for service. Do you still get any of your pension at 60?
Hi guys,
Has anyone had a luck to get VA Home Loan COE from AMRT order? (Reservist w/o Prior AD service) I have been told almost everywhere the AMRT order doesn't count since it's Active Duty for Training. However, few also mentioned if it can be proved it's an On Job Training then it might count. Any ideas?
Any one else getting burnt out on the heavy emphasis on looking green on paper? Lately it seems like doing your TFAT,RAT, and endless amount of ancillary training has been taking a priority over actual job training. I’m an ART in maintenance and it seems like there’s barely anytime left over to give reservists time to learn their job.
New the Reserves and already getting a PT test. They do it for all new members. Was out for a bit.
I know I'm gonna fail because it's in 45 days and won't make some of the requirements.
After the 1st failure, do you get paperwork? And how long to retake it.
Didn’t really see anything when I searched here but I was curious about something and hoped somewhere here had an answer or experience.
A lot of navy reservists make extra money by doing funeral duties. I know from personal experience as a teenager that the Marines also send people out for funeral detail (but of course how that works is different too). I was wondering if AF reservists had a similar duty or billet or if that was something tasked to a specific area or group when prior service members, retirees etc pass on? It never dawned on me to find out if they would hold duty for my step father earlier this year and realizing I never asked led me to see that I didn’t know how it worked here.
Thanks in advance.
TLDR: who is responsible/ tasked for funeral service for non current active duty personnel in the AF and if it is reservists are they compensated?
Anyone have any insight on this AFSC thinking of cross training?
I plan on joining the reserves, however I am curious on if I’ll have to miss my fall semester next year. I am at a community college right now and I will be transfering to Texas A&M. Since I am in college I will finish my classes early May meaning I can ship out earlier. Though I am not exactly sure how much choice I have in that regard.
Thanks!
Any barksdale maintainers lurking on here? Looking to possibly transfer there and had some questions about the unit.
Just curious if anyone may know the repercussions of receiving a general discharge in the reserves for members who prior active duty. Will that affect your VA disability eligibility, what if you already have a rating? Anything helps and thanks in advance. Happy holidays!
TL;DR: I received a DAF Form 1185 that was filled out incorrectly. It didn’t specify which condition it was for, inaccurately reflected my injury during military status, and marked “yes” for no points/no pay status without specifying the duration. My medical profile falsely claimed narcolepsy-related restrictions that aren’t true. Despite passing an MWT to dispute this, they ignored the results and sent me this unclear form instead. My ankle injury from tech school and narcolepsy paperwork were delayed until my EOS, forcing me into multiple 6-month extensions. Seeking advice on all of this.
Hey everyone, I have a couple of questions about a DAF Form 1185 I received and some broader medical and administrative issues. 1. The form had several issues: • It didn’t specify which condition it was addressing, so I have no idea what the commander is commenting on. • It inaccurately reflected my injury during military status—I was injured, but the form didn’t document this properly. • It also marked “yes” for no points/no pay status but didn’t indicate how long.
I emailed back requesting corrections. Is this a reasonable request, or are they likely to dismiss it and tell me not to worry? 2. My medical profile had false claims about my narcolepsy: It incorrectly stated that I couldn’t participate because I “couldn’t drive at night” and “needed a special diet.” Neither of these is true—I can drive at night, and I don’t require a special diet. These claims don’t reflect my type of narcolepsy, and I have no idea where they came from.
To dispute this, I took a Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) and passed successfully. However, they completely ignored my MWT results and instead sent me this unclear DAF Form 1185, which doesn’t specify what injury or condition the commander’s comments are addressing. 3. My ankle injury and narcolepsy were ignored for years: I injured my ankle during technical school but was told at the time that the school “wasn’t set up for prior service” and that missing any days would require me to repeat the entire three-month training. When I returned to my squadron and told them, their only response was, “They shouldn’t have said that.” My narcolepsy paperwork was also submitted early on, but neither my unit nor medical took action. I was later told that I should have been put in for an MEB immediately after notifying the medical unit.
All of this—including both the ankle injury and narcolepsy—was delayed until my End of Service (EOS), forcing me into multiple six-month extensions while waiting for these issues to be addressed.
Does anyone have advice or insights on how to handle these issues? I’d especially like to know how to get the DAF Form 1185 corrected or get clarity on what it pertains to. Any help or shared experiences would be appreciated!
Hi everyone. I am currently active duty and planned to go reserves after my date of separation here shortly. I had an ALC code due to me being on a profile. However, the profile will be lifted in a week and half and my separation date is before then. The gaining base denied me due to have the code. Any suggestions on what to do? I really wanted to go to the reserves.
How long can you be on a PT waiver for the same injury?
I ruptured an achilles tendon a cpl years back and have had issues ever since with my running. Passing waist score.
I was on a profile just for the run my last two PT tests.
36 with a Bachelor's and Master's. Neither degree has ever been of use to me. Job now isn't shit but it isn't special. The main reason I am considering putting myself through the hell of losing all the weight (I need a goal and I am within inches of using this as my goal) I would need to lose is for the insurance and the help with student loan reimbursement. I am not considering AD because I have 2 young children and one of them is autistic. I don't want to be unable to help with that for the extended time of a deployment. The time for basic and tech school wouldn't be all that unmanageable. I 100% regret not considering joining up when I was graduating high school, but in my defense, it was beat into me go to college get good job and the number of times I heard hey idiot we are at war in 2 different countries right now why would you risk it was enough to just follow the path.
Am I being dumb?
Something I haven't found information about is how does your respective AFSC get used when in the reserve vs AD? Obviously you do it full time when AD but for reserve is there certain jobs you simply can't have? From looking at them it seems some wouldn't make sense for someone only doing the 1 weekend a month thing.
I can’t get a straight answer on this and the IMA groups are telling me not to do it, but not telling me why.
I just got off active duty and transferred into an IMA billet. Based off of my R/R date I already have more than enough points for this year. I plan to do all of my IDTs, but due starting a new civilian life I would prefer not to do my Annual Training if I can help it. My supervisor says he supports a waiver since I’m already having a good year but I haven’t sent the waiver up to my CC for final approval. A lot of IMAs are telling me do not get my AT waived at all, even if it’s an inconvenience for me and my unit doesn’t seem to mind if I waive it. No one is telling me why it is they disagree with me getting my AT waived. I’ve looked all over Google and at the RIO webpage but it seems like being on AD is a valid reason not to fulfill that requirement. What am I missing here?
This may be long or not. Just know that SA is mentioned so please don’t read if you will be triggered. It sucks that bullshit like that has to happen.
Anyway, I’m [21F] currently active, which I’ve been for 1 year and 4 months out of a 4 year contract. Right before my one year mark, I was terribly sodomized back in May by another enlisted member. Since, my brain has been scrambled. I’ve done everything I was supposed to do when it comes to filing an unrestricted report. I found out that charges have been brought upon the perpetrator but now I have to wait for the court martial and I don’t know how long that will take.
Since June, I’ve been going to mental health on base which has been okay I guess. My provider knows I’m trying to get out of the military but what I think she’s trying to do is “make me better” instead of just hurrying up and recommending an MEB. I don’t know how long it will take before the button will be pushed, but I cannot be active for much longer because it’s mentally taxing to have to balance the Air Force full time while trying to heal from rape too. I have thought about requesting a voluntary discharge but I don’t want to lose any benefits because I didn’t come this far to be raped AND lose my benefits. The man who did what he did to me might’ve disturbed my mental health but I’m not going to let him take my whole life. I want to finish school if I go reserves. I’m currently in trade school right now doing something because if I don’t, I’ll be wallowing in my dorm and making my mental health worse.
What I’m here to ask is, should I stay active duty and ride it out until I possibly get an MEB or go to the trial or should I take matters into my own hands and go reserves so I can focus on getting my mind together and recover? I really don’t want to have to add another two years to my contract to be able to go reserves but if that’s what I’ll have to do to not eat, sleep and breathe this lifestyle full time, I just might have to do that. I don’t know how med boards work with reservists but if I get one while reserves, then so be it but my mental health is hanging on by a thread.
Im 21 and about to join and was wondering what’s suitable for someone that likes to drive or deliver stuff TIA
I’m currently an Active Duty AF Pilot, but hoping to get to the AFR to better accommodate my family. I still have 4+ years of active duty commitment. Is there any options to fill a reserve slot as an active duty pilot for some time or get my contract bought out earlier? The reserve bases/mission would make the family life a lot easier. Any insight would be great.
I am looking to join the Air Force with my husband, I have a career outside the Air Force already as a nurse. I have spoken to a couple of people regarding their experiences and so far it’s always been skewed to either “I wish I went AD instead because of my workload on top of my civilian job” or “ I wish I was in the reserves”.
What are the true pros and cons/ differences between both?
Hello - I'm a 25 year old with a MA, PMP cert, and a TS clearance. I want to do something different, serve my country, and maybe pivot into a career in intelligence (and I am also very interested in economics). I wouldn't mind deploying but am thinking of starting a family soon so it's not ideal. I live in the DMV area and am hoping to stay here. Since I have a Masters I was hoping I could try to go in as an officer. I do have experience managing people and am currently a project manager (gov con).
Is there a place for me in the reserves? What's the likelihood of deploying? Can reservists be officers? Thanks all.
Happy holidays everyone! My separation date is approaching and then I will be going to the reserves. I’m still waiting to hear back on acceptance from the gaining base. I have a question about TAMP. How soon does that start after my separation date from active duty? Is it something that I have to apply for? Any information is greatly appreciated, thank you.
32 years old, wife and a kid. Good job in aerospace as a mechanic. I always wanted to join, let my stupidity in my 20’s get in my way of doing anything productive in life until a few years ago.
Now that I have my act together my desire to join, both for potential benefits and to do something I always wanted to do has come back. I was always a strong athlete when I was younger but have gotten older and a little out of shape. 6’4 240 I’m sure I can whip myself back into shape.
My question is have any of you done something similar, how hard is BMT for someone like myself and would you encourage me to enlist.
