We were lucky enough to get tickets for Jack White's excellent show in a small-medium venue in north London tonight. And I was delighted to see Patrick on drums. They crushed it. The new record is sick. Proper blues garage rock and roll, wonderful tunes

I am looking for the full show of the 1994 MTV Movie Awards. Not the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards, the 1994 MTV Movie Awards full show. I know that the entire performance of the Backbeat band is uploaded on YouTube. I would love to see the full show and am hoping that I could get helped. It would mean a lot. I have been looking for it for a long time. Thanks.

This may be a fabricated memory, but I think I once saw the cover of Gentlemen with the same models as adults. Or maybe with different models in the same pose. Does this "adult cover" exist? (I'm not thinking about *"*Nan and Brian in Bed, New York City" by Nan Goldin which apparently was an inspiration for the cover.)

 I got a VIP ticket for D.C. and asked a couple of questions.

When I asked about the interview where Greg said he wanted to do a rarities set, but it was a lot to put together and asked if it was still coming he said it was on the box. I looked confused at him, and  he said, “Oh, you mean the Whigs? There are no Afghan Whigs rarities.”. John Curley saw the astonished look on my face - since you may know, I've been sharing a drive full of rarities - and said, “They’re on the internet.” Greg then said, “Everything we want you to hear is out there, and if it’s not, we don’t want you to hear it.” 

Greg also went on a tangent responding to either my question or somebody else’s and brought up criticisms about the TS box price and availability, saying that he wanted it done exactly how it was and that he collects art and is good with paying for art, and that this is a piece of art and it won’t be pressed ever again and that those who missed out and snoozed are shit out of luck. I love AW and Dulli, but I think he’s off base with that as the answer to those upset about the set being $600+ with exclusive music fans can’t get otherwise.

 I also asked what was the song they played live a few times years ago before White Trash Party And provided some lyrics to help jog his memory. “Ain’t nobody here called…” Greg jumped in, and said, “Oh! The “N” word is the next lyric, yeah, won’t be singing that again!” He said he thinks it’s a song by The Last Poets, but he’s not sure which one.  He also told a story when he finished a Notorious B.I.G. lyric on stage with that word years ago, and a black friend (I think their backup singer for the tour? He said their name, but I'm not sure) giving him the cut that out sign, and that he hasn’t ever since. 

Anyhow, I feel great about sharing all of those rarities with other fans since Greg and the boys don’t want to sell them to anyone! 

Speaking of rarities, ...I got the tour 7" with Steve Kilbey and Greg professionally digitized and have the WAV and MP3 versions in the drive in the Dulli folder. Send me a message if you want the drive link and don't have it and I'll hook you up!

Hi all. Was just wondering if anyone could please point me towards some scans of the book included with The Twilight Singers box set released last year.

I understand it contains never before seen photos and some essays. Would be great to have a chance to read it, considering I don't ever see myself being able to obtain the box set itself.

First Afghan Whigs album I bought is Congregation. Then a month later, Up In It when I saw it somewhere. Found out later that Big Top Halloween was their first. 1000 pressed. Released in Cincinnati probably and nowhere to be found back in 1993, Europe.

Then; Gentlemen was released. MTV Europe was at their prime and the videos of Gentlemen and Debonair were played on a weekly basis. The drums on these last two albums were incredible but when Black Love was released in 1996 Steve Earl had left the band/been fired/died/went to the Bahamas. 🤷🏼

So, does anyone of you Whigs fans know where he’s at these days? Last 30 years? Google knows nothing.

Finally did the deed and paid to do the VIP Q&A. After some fun with the Fillmore staff, (I got escorted off a balcony) we were treated to a few songs and then a Q&A with the OG band (Greg and John). Thought I'd be starstruck, but there was a dude there that was acting really weird when the band came out, which made me feel oddly calm in comparison. I asked a bunch of questions, not the least of which was about Backbeat. Greg said that unlike the album, the movie features his vocals only for John and Paul. The Soul Asylum dude recorded different versions for the soundtrack release. They were as cool and charming as you'd expect. They seem like very good friends having fun doing what they love. Greg said a new Whigs album is on the way (2 songs done) and that they will also release an album of covers in the future!

I have a confession to make. The first Afghan Whigs song I heard was the still amazing after all these years 'Miles Iz Ded'. The song and its haunting video so imprinted into my head that I went out on a singular mission seeking this song.

Only by the time I got to the record store, my brain had fixated on Smashing Pumpkins for some reason, so imagine my disappointment when I listened to 'Gish' front to back only to find 'Miles Iz Ded' missing. Now, this was pre-internet so it's not like I was able to fix my mistake by doing a google search. So it was not until I saw another video off the excellent 'Congregation' ('Turn on the water') that I ended up with the correct band/album in tow.

I fell hard for the Whigs, who put out a series of amazing albums throughout the 90's. And it was the Whigs who gave me one of the most perfect concert moments of all time by playing the aforementioned 'Miles Iz Ded' to end their encore when I saw them on the 'Black Love' tour at the Cabaret in Montreal back in '96.

Then the band went on an extended hiatus. Sure, I still got my Greg Dulli fix courtesy of The Twilight Singers and The Gutter Twins, but the Whigs would not return until 2014's excellent 'Do to the Beast', and I got to see them a couple of times in the incredible 2014 edition of Riot Fest in Toronto and Chicago. But it would be another ten years until I'd get the chance to see the band again on tour with The Church at First Avenue in Minneapolis. The venue itself is quite special to me as I was a big fan of the Minneapolis sound in the 80's, so this felt like a bit of a pilgrimage.

The Whigs were in terrific form, Greg Dulli is still a formidable frontman and goddamn if that John Curley ain't a dreamy bastard on bass. The way that his bassline on 'Going to Town' kind of sounds like the organ on Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' is still magic to my ears -- what a badass song...And the drums on 'Summer's Kiss'? <chef's kiss> Among the newer material, 'Oriole' is such a highlight. And 'It Kills'? it fucking killed, such a gorgeous song. I was not familiar with Ed Harcourt but having him join the band on keys after his own terrific set was really great. An incredible show and yet The Church were still to come...hot damn.

pps. One little thing...the lighting at the show was a bit of a mess, if we're being honest. At times the wash of blue/pink lights made the band disappear altogether and I couldn't find the proper color adjustment to make it much better. Sorry about that.

Hi all - My husband just went to the Boston MA show and was pretty bummed out that he couldn't get the "selections from an alien musical" vinyl. Is there anyone going to an upcoming tour date who might be able to grab it for me and mail it my way? And does anyone who's already seen them know how much it was selling for, so if someone can do this for me, I can send compensation for it right away? Thanks y'all. The show was supposed to be his birthday present but I apparently didn't budget enough for merch and I feel like a total doofus and I want to make him really happy. ❤️

They all sound great and wonderful set, albeit too short for a group with that large a catalog.

Also sad that they weren't headlining. It's just a different energy when they get space to really fill up with more jams and covers... And potential encore.

But still a lovely night and they sound terrific and can still rock!

Thoughts?

Decided to grab a copy of the Kilbey/Dulli tracks they pressed for this tour and the songs are great. Kilbey on most of the vocals and Greg playing piano - they sound like Dulli’s slower songs which I’m a big fan of. Worth getting if you have the chance!

Just realized the Beautiful Girls soundtrack isn't on Spotify. Spotify suggests you reach out to the artist to request an album - but I can literally find no way to contact the AW. The insta and twitter are both "invite to connect," the email address I found for their manager on Google bounced, the website gives you a form to sign up for the newsletter and that's it.

Anyone have any advice?

Is it me or does he seem to look radically different every time they do a tour? Not knocking at all, love the guy, but just don’t know if my eyes or memory are playing tricks on me

I bought tickets to the Portland show on 07/06. I am unable to go to this show. Is anyone interested in going? I have two tickets Balcony C 12 & 13. I have never been to the ballroom so I am unsure on how good these seats are.

Ok, so.

Tickets said doors 7, show 8. I was so so sure this meant K Hersh would go on at 8.

I showed up in ‘plenty of time’ at 8:30 and quickly realized I missed 25% of the Whigs’ set.

The place was already acked. I checked every platform I knew of prior to the show looking for set times and found nothing. This was far from my first rodeo. How did I get this so wrong? And does anyone here know how seemingly every other fan knew to show up on time for the whole set?

Feels super weird that we'd have one show in Europe - at a slightly obscure festival in rural Belgium that's super hard to access with public transport - and nothing else. Are we expecting the boys to announce a European leg of the tour?
