I’m guessing that Canva has done their due diligence in researching how much of Affinity’s market share is solely because of the subscription free model. But does anyone think that could still change all this time later?
I bought a halftone brush pack for affinity designer 2 on my iPad, not realising it was a pixel brush pack, not vector. I’ve tried to work around this and somehow get vector halftone into my drawing but I can’t seem to do it. I’ve now used the pixel brushes and am hoping someone has a solution to cleanly get my pixel layers to convert to vector so I can screen print my drawing. Does anyone have a solution or know where I can buy halftone vector brush packs for affinity designer 2?
I have been pulling my hair out for a few hours and I am unable to figure out how to create a double sided business card in Designer 2. I am running out of hair so I am asking here.
Is there a way to do this in Affinity Designer 2? Am I missing something?
Any help is appreciated.
Hi All, I have been using Adobe for years but am just not able to afford the astronomic price tag that comes with it. I am considering Affinity as an alternative and am only concerned about fonts downloaded via Adobe fonts. I have been selling educational resources on etsy using the Brevia font via Adobe Fonts. I would change it, but is kind of a part of my brand image. https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/brevia On the Adobe website, it says it is cleared for both free and commercial use.
Is this still the case when using the same font on Affinity but downloaded via a different font site? Has anyone run into this issue? I don't want issues with fonts. Is Brevia only free to use when using them on Adobe software? Is it actually something to worry about if I choose to switch to affinity/ will I need to purchase a license?
I want to switch over from Adobe to Affinity and it looks so promising but i can't find simplify or smooth tools? From the forum post i saw it's not a thing and if that's the case i can't switch over. Is there no add-on or something that adds the feature? I'm kinda disappointed and really confused.
When I create a contour outline and then select everything, the selection box doesn't encompass the entire selection. So when I export the edges of the contour lines are cut off. How to get it so that the whole thing shows up?
Hi, I would like to use a PDF file as a template for package printing. Therefore I downloaded their dieline template and would like to import it into Designer 2.
In the page preview everything looks right and this orange rectangle on the bottom right side is there as well (how it should be...).
Now when I click on OK this shows up and the Artboard-Dimensions are just not right. The orange rectangle is out of the Artboard and the dielines do not even fit in the workspace.
What can I do???
Thank you in advance guys
I have an image that was created and exported from a CAD program. I have it saved as numerous file formats and imported it into AD and haven’t had much success using any of the file types (DXF, AI, SVG).
My typical workflow for this type of file is to bring it into Adobe Illustrator, however I wanted to give AD a try since I can install it on my windows 10 PC and not have to use the VM that I have with CS6 in it.
Using AI the live paint tool does all that I need in order to accomplish what I want, coloring in the image. The vector flood fill tool, seems to not color in non-closed areas, live paint in AI will. Am I missing something here?
Hello Hello,
Newbie here to the group, not sure if this is a good spot, but I use Affinity so here goes.
Does anybody have experience creating these sort of labels. I am looking for some advice about how to best lay this out.
The bottle sits in the paper wrap and goes up so will need to design some of the imagery upside down.
Not sure what is the best way to do this, any points would be epic. Think its best to go on a square or rectangular artboard?
Cheers
Whenever I try to Log in and press the activation button it doesn't respond. I tried redownloading it and I'm sure that I put in the right information but its still doesn't work- Did anybody have the same problem and my be able to help. I already tried contacting the support but they can't help.
I have zero experience in web design, but volunteered to be the web design co-chair for a committee representing my area in a certain anonymous non profit program. The actual chair seems to have just as much experience, but is also taking no initiative. I'm extremely willing to learn what it's really going to take to design a half decent website, but is Affinity software actually what i should start using? I saw someone else mention Figma and a few other random names would be better for making actual websites. Just not really sure where to start.
Taking this from the r/adobeillustrator, who is your favorite illustrator artist you follow on instagram?
I’m looking for inspiration. It’s a bonus if they also use affinity.
I need to create a file for an underbase layer of my image to screen on darker tees. My friend told me in adobe he "chokes" the design to make it a little smaller than the original so when he screens over the underbase coat, he ensure he will cover it all.
How would I do that in Affinity Designer? Or what do you all do when creating a file for an underbase layer?
It's been a while since I lasted used Affinity's apps but thought I'd make use of the 6 month time before hopefully making the switch from Adobe :) When pasting an image into both Affinity Designer & Photo apps, the image is washed out. This does not happen when importing the image or dragging the image from the finder. For reference I'm using a MacBook Pro (Mac OS Sonoma). I've tried changing the color profiles (in the settings) to no avail.
EDIT: SOLVED! See below........).I have lots of filled vector dots on one transparent background layer andI want my signature and text to be visible when on top of this so have applied a white stroke so you can read them which looks great. However I just realised this means when I use this artwork I will have to keep changing the colour stroke to match the background colour. Is there a way that turns the strokes into an eraser - something boolean? (I'm scared of boolean functions but will look into it more if this is the way).
SOLUTION: Thanks for the solutions below from balakov3 and RE4LLY:
I've avoided SubDobe for MANY years now thanks to Affinity but I recently came across another feature that would save me time, but I cannot seem to emulate in Affinity.
The Blob Brush tool as I'm sure you're all aware allows me to paint shapes very quickly and then edit the nodes for precision if needed. This is a big time saver when I'm taking artwork that for one reason or another needs a large number of small adjustments. Giving you a specific example. I need to turn a black and white (Actually just a compound vector shape with holes inside it) and convert it into a stencil so I have to draw shapes into the vector to connect the holes so they don't just fall out of place in the stencil.
When I make more nodes and adjust the shapes to do this, any overlap causes a negative overlap and the vector line isn't mergeable because its already one shape, so when I try to draw shapes or lines over top of the shape and then merge them, the shapes need just as much tweaking but at least it works in the end and the lines are not any better in the amount of detail tweaking needed.
I looked to the vector brush tool, but I found that I cannot even expand the stroke on a vector drawn with this tool, so it's of no use to me at all in a project that requires combining into a single compound shape like a stencil.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated before I waste too much time on the detailed work or worse yet, succumb to the subscription model I've avoided for over a decade.
EDIT: Made an error in my description. These are not "compound" shapes but a single shape merged by Boolean so that they can be easily exported as SVG to be made into stencils.
I would imagine this would require the pen tool to make the shape, but I cannot figure out how to do it. The node tool won't let me control individual nodes of a rectangle other than to resize the entire shape, and I can't figure out how to make the shape I want perfectly with the pen tool.
How do I add a Point to an existing curve?
The curve is not closed. So it has 2 "end" or "starting" points.
I want to add a point before one of the "end points" or outside the curve so to speak....
While I use the node tool (Shortcut: "A") I can add points between 2 points of the curve while pressing the hotkey "Shift" and clicking between 2 anchor points.
But I want to add a point to extend the curve. I want to be able to select one of the curve ends and add a point before or after it...
But it does not work. The mouse pointer shows me a "+" symbol, while holding down "shift", but it won't let me add a point outside the curve.
How do I do this?
I have a effect I want to make in a certain way, I have made a simplified version of what I want as example:
I want to have a Layer with outer glow and cut part of it. This version was done by just having a black sphere in front of the object. depicted as gray here:
But I would like to cut the shape in a way where the outer glow in that area disappears but I am only to get results like this:
I don't want the outer glow to show in the cut part, and am unsure what the best way to do it is. These examples are just simplified versions of my problem. Any help would be much appreciated, kinda hope this is just a me being stupid issue and there is a simple way to dot his.
