Ralphie is a 5 year old chihuahua mix based out of Benson, North Carolina. He was found dumped at the end of a dead-end street near a forest and some train tracks with a ChiWeenie female who was unfortunately hit by a train as rescuers tried to catch her.

I've been fostering him for a month and a half, and in that time I've come to know a lot about him. Near as I can tell, he came from an abusive home that didn't show him how to love and be loved, but he's learning every day and comes up to our pillows at night for goodnight kisses and again in the morning for good morning bleps.

He was emaciated when we got him, but his weight is up now and he's scheduled for a neuter at the end of this month. Ralphie, aka Rocket Ralph / Ralferoni, is a zippy little thing who takes well to his leash, is house-broken, and loves to play with his ball. He gets along well with other dogs, but we do think he would be best in a single dog household. He's good with children, but he is best when he's curled up with his humans on a couch or in a bed.

Contrary to what you might think from his pictures, he does not have mange. We think the lack of fur is scarring or something to do with his breed. He LOVES wearing clothes, so being adopted by someone who likes to knit cute outfits for him could be really nice. He has definite scarring around his collar making us think he was left outside somewhere with a collar that was too tight.

This poor baby has had a hard life, but he's a quick learner and after his first week with us, he warmed right up and got very used to accepting treats, cuddles, and play time from us and our dogs.

We did find him a home, but he was returned after a day so I do feel like I need to warn you all. He can be grumpy before he knows you. This is a traumatized animal with a lot of love to give. Before he knows a human, he can seem withdrawn and will prefer to stay in his crate. He will growl at you, but his bites aren't hard. They are more like gently pressing teeth to let you know he doesn't like something. He also gives light love nips when he's playing, but the only time we have ever seen him be aggressive was when our puppy bit his tail. As with any pet, it takes a bit for them to bond with you.

I cannot stress enough that he needs someone who can be patient with him as that bond forms. He really is a great dog, and if it wasn't for us already having 3 we would keep him ourselves. He is 350 if you want to use our vet in Benson to have him neutered and 100 if you use your own vet.

Big boy Blue needs a foster or adopter! He's been in our rescue for almost a year :( This big mush is 4-5 years old, calm, walks well on a leash, and loves to cuddle. He is ok passing other dogs on the street but needs to be the only pet in the home. NO DOG PARKS!
