Impactful ways to support Ukraine politically in your country, and serious news and analysis.
If you live in a democracy, elected officials are your voice in government. Contacting your representative is highly effective: aides of representatives will record the number of people who voice support for an issue, which in turn impacts the stance the representative takes.
It is imperative that you contact your representative, meaning the person you can vote for or against in the next election. Many countries have official sites that require you to pass basic verification to ensure you're contacting your representative. If no verification exists, it is important you mention in your letter or call that you are from that representative's district.
Surprisingly few people take the time to contact their representatives. A letter or call may take minutes from your day, but will have a colossal impact.

Though some votes are still being counted, it is possible to draw some conclusions about the composition of the Senate for 2025.
In the 2024 Senate, 75 out of the 100 Senators were Strong Supporters or Supporters of Ukraine, according to the American Ukraine PAC Scorecard.
46 Dems and 15 Republicans were Strong Supporters. 13 Republicans and 1 Democrat were Supporters. All Supporters and Strong Supporters voted in favor of the Supplemental in April.
In 2025, there will be 12 new Senators. CA, DE, MD, NJ, MI had retiring Strong Supporter Dems being replaced with Dems. Sen Schiff (CA), Sen Rochester (DE), Sen Slotkin (MI) and Sen Kim (NJ) were Strong Supporter as Members of the House. Sen Gallego (AZ) and Sen Alsobrooks (MD) were state officials so does not have a voting record, but most likely will be a Strong Supporter.
UT was a Republican Senator and replaced with a Republican Senator. Senator Curtis was a Strong Supporter in the House. IN was a Negative and is being replaced by Sen Banks, who had a Negative voting record in the House.
Four Republicans won seats previously held by Democrats: WV, PA, OH and MT). None of the four: Sen Tester (MT), Sen Moreno (OH), Sen McCormick (PA) and Sen Justice (WV) were in the House so they do not have a voting record.
Ohio most likely will be negative for Ukraine. Outgoing Sen Brown was Chair of the Banking Committee which oversaw Russian sanctions and a Ukraine Champion. Incoming Sen Moreno has made negative statements concerning the American-Ukraine relationship.
The other incoming Senators all have a military background and campaign on restoring American military strength and support for our allies, though the American-Ukraine relationship was not a key issue.
Overall, the Senate elections are most likely neutral for Ukraine. Supporters of Ukraine were mainly replaced with Supporters with the exception of Ohio.

All four chairs of the House Ukraine Caucus have won their respective races and will be returning to Congress! Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) won a very competitive race. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Mike Quigley (D-IL) won easily. Finally, the tireless Joe Wilson (R-SC), who recently gave us a scare when he suffered a heart attack literally while attending a Ukraine Independence Day celebration, will also continue doing what he does best.
Hello folks, we're still working on determining priorities and strategies for the lame duck session, and figuring out to what extent Trump's rhetoric will match his actions. I will have updates soon.
I understand that many of us are discouraged. We have a right to be, but have to be aware of reality. We are not sitting in trenches. We are not dying. Most of us continue advocacy from comfort and safety, while Ukrainians hold back an axis of evil that seeks to usher in an era in which tyranny prospers and might-makes-right. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and to brave Ukrainians dying under artillery fire this very moment to keep fighting our respective battles. There is work to be done.
Regarding whether Ukraine will have funding to continue to defend itself. Ukraine's budget for 2025 currently looks like this:
Ukraine's defense budget: $53.38 billion
G7 Loan: $50 billion
NATO (USA excluded): $46 billion
There are also $6.4 billion remaining in unspent US funding, which Biden intends to use before the end of his term, and many USAI orders that have already been paid for and placed for production with the US defense industry, that will continue to be delivered over the next couple years.
Keep calm and carry on.
Eugene Vindman, a Ukrainian from Kyiv, a veteran of the US Army, and brother to Alex Vindman, has won his election and is heading to the US House of Representatives to represent Virginia’s 7th District. He is an ardent and true supporter of Ukraine and we look forward to having him in Congress.
P.S. Eugene's brother, Alex, is famous for his testimony regarding Trump's attempts to coerce Zelensky into investigating Biden, which resulted in Trump's first impeachment.

Call your representatives!

Below is a sample script that you can use while calling. Please feel free to add any details, such as additional reasons why the U.S. should continue to support Ukraine and why this issue is important to you. You can use this script for both speaking with a staffer or leaving a voicemail.
Hello! My name is [your name] and I live in [city, state]. My zip code is [zip code].
I am a Ukraine supporter. Recently a bicameral and bipartisan bill was introduced to create a more constructive framework for US-Ukraine relations over the next 10 years, and make aid for Ukraine both more efficient and predictable. I'm calling to ask [representative's name] to co-sponsor the Stand with Ukraine Act, [HR 9501 if calling a Representative, S 4992 if calling a Senator]. Thank you.
