My name is Ryan and l've just been stuck wondering how I can get things going in my life. I've been working at a business center for 7 years but l've always wanted to become an Actor. l've had an awesome opportunity with workshops in Toronto and have spoken with a lot of people but never really forged myself into the field of Acting. I've always dreamed about winning an Oscar and I truly want to be the best there can be. To even make my own film one day would be amazing cause I have ambitions to be great. Anyone have any true advice to help me out cause I swear I would owe it back to whoever can help me. I know it seems weird asking reddit for help but I mean I got no clue how to even start. Thanks!
Hi! I've read a lot of the posts here and find them really helpful. I have a question about a difference I'm noticing between my performance/experience on set vs. in auditions.
I get a lot of positive feedback on my work and really enjoy doing it — generally I'm able to be in the moment, think the character's thoughts, feel the feelings etc. When I'm auditioning.
However, lately on set, it's different. For bigger/more intense emotional scenes on set I'll just feel so... zen. Totally calm. But like, emotions inaccessible, nothing there, usually I'm a pretty high-energy busy-minded feeling person, and of all moments this is the one where I go completely silent.
It's kinda nice, but wrong time!!! Any thoughts on what's happening or what to do about it?
Hey all! So I need advice on this. I have gotten zero in person/online training but have some decent experience since I started acting 2 years ago and have looked into many videos and readings of acting advice/classes. So Im not a complete newbie. I cant speak too much on this project but it’s my first time playing this kind of character so if anyone has played a real life criminal/psycho before or a fictional one even, what advice do you have to get into character? The producer told me I will have to do some violent scenes that are going to have another actress in it (you get the idea)
i hâve to lead warmups for my acting class in a couple days and i need some good ideas for warmups to do. we are all college students if that makes a difference
Hi!
I am a 19 year old girl(about to be 20) and I decided to go to LA this summer incase I find a really good Summer Acting Program that isn’t for under 18 years olds.
Does anyone recommend one? If yes why and did you go there by yourself?
I’d love to hear the experiences and see if it’s worth it!
I'm 18 years old and just realised that i want to learn movie acting. So I did some research and I know that first step towards my goal would be taking acting classes. However in my country there are none of them, so other option would be taking online ones. But I'm not sure if they would be very effective since I wouldn't be able to face people and i imagine that would make it difficult to get into the role/character. Also since I'm from Europe but I wanna do acting in english and not in my native language, it's even harder to try finding something here (by that i mean gigs, which country to stay in and etc.) and I’m not sure if I should move somewhere else since it would cost a bunch of money and I’m not even sure which country would be ideal to live in as an actor. What I've been doing so far is taking scripts from well known movies that i haven't seen and filming on my phone my acting. After that I watch the movie and try to compare the difference between my and actors acting/understanding of the character. But it's hard to judge yourself and see what's wrong with ur acting (if your movements or voice sound natural) without any experience and people that could judge. So I thought maybe some of you have dealt with something similar and might have some tips how to start.

And if you are not a beginner but need to put some effort into preparing a a great monologue for auditions, etc, you NEED TO TAKE THIS CLASS. You’ll get lots of individual attention and will understand acting in a whole new way, no matter what your experience level.

ADVANCED AUDITION/SELF-TAPE CLASS
If you are serious about your acting career and want to start booking jobs, you need to be the best actor they see for the role. If you are just starting out with an agent you need to at least get a call back or good report from the CD. If you are hoping to get an agent soon, you need to get ready to be sent out with positive results. The only way to be ready for the last minute, high intensity pressure of professional auditions/self-tape requests is to do it every week in class. YOU NEED THIS CLASS!
Here is the way to make sure when opportunities arise you will be able to “knock their socks off”. Get thrown a weekly challenge to create a self-tape from new audition sides. Work on film and TV scripts, commercial copy and the all important “Slate”…in real time, with the high pressure demands of a real, professional audition. Students receive their audition sides a day or two before class. They must create a professional quality self tape with their slate. The tape is played in class for my critique and coaching. then each student gets the chance to do a callback performance, attempting to implement my direction. All in one class day!
#DROP IN CLASS APRIL 9th!:
Because this is such an important class I want to give everyone the chance to try it out. So anyone can join the first class for $45 without committing to the full 5 weeks. We will start with commercial copy to start out with. Future classes will include TV and Film auditions. So if you want to—jump right in:
ADVANCED AUDITION/SELF-TAPE CLASS will be held Tuesdays at 11:00 am Pacific Time. The cost for the full 5 weeks is $225.

What advice would you give to a 21 year old girl from Spain, who wants to learn to act professionally in Hollywood and Morocco (because I have an Arab family), I know it sounds impossible, and I tell myself that I stopped dreaming. I discovered relatively recently what I really like. How to succeed in it (I don’t mean fame) I mean to have important projects that make you excel as an actor/actress, that success of working with the greats and learning about art. I actually have too many passions, one of them is this and I want to go for it, but I know what the odds are
Hi! I'm a high school student who is auditioning for a performing arts school and was looking for help finding 2-minute monologues that are contrasting; comedic and dramatic for a boy. Thank you!
Hello! I'm 16 and currently based in the uk. I've been doing loads of research online but it's all so confusing. Like to get an agent i need headshots (which i definitely can't afford rn) and apparently i need a spotlight account? no clue what that is. anyway, i'm currently doing drama at school and i plan on taking an acting vocational at college this September (i think you can get representation through that but i'd quite like to start now) I'm thinking of doing small roles on backstage this summer just to get some experience (if i book anything) but again, i need headshots. I don't really know what to do or where to start so any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
It’s way past time to sign up for class. I’ve been so busy on set that I’m behind in posting. So don’t wait! Let me know below who you are partnering with and what scenes you are doing. If you don’t have a partner, introduce yourself below. This post below has all the info you need.

WEEKDAY INTRO AND AUDITION CLASSES COMING!
I was thinking that Wednesdays at 4:30 pm Pacific Time might be good for the Intro class. If you are reading the lessons it’s time to jump in and start putting what you learn to use. We will be concentrating on monologues but working with partners as we explore being responsive and interactive in our solo acting. So this class is good for those of you who are not beginners and want to brush up on your monologue technique as well.
MAKE YOUR OWN CLASS
To have the perfect class time for you, all you need is one other person to join you to create your own class. One of the most helpful and challenging classes I have given is the Advanced Audition Class where we work on Self Tapes and call backs. Interested? Let me know.
And watch the showcase this Sunday ON TWITCH.
i want to become an Actor, but where i’m from there’s absolutely nothing. I try and put myself out there. but nothing helps… advice ??
In a few days i will act in front of a lot of people and the concept is like theatre. Please give advice on how to act theatrically, im just a supporting character but I want to be embedded in people's mind, make them to only watch me. Please please help me, i really want to do well in this play
I'm thinking of making my career in Hollywood. But where should i move in? I know Los Angeles is pretty crowded for actors and the cost of living is too high. Just got the news that a new studio backed by Mark Wahlberg is being made in Las Vegas. I've also heard about the movie industry shifting to Atlanta due to the tax incentives law for film production. Now where should i move in? In where would be the less crowd and more opportunities. And most importantly where the cost of living the lowest?
hi everyone, i am 17 and from the uk, i have to submit a audition tape with a monologue, i did a dry run last night and would like any last minute feedback or improvements before i record the final version tomorrow night. Pls dont worry about the camera or mic quality, as i am filming in a different setting, i just want feedback on the actual monologue and the pacing of it. Also please ignore my general appearance it was 2:30 am when i filmed this and i look like shit .
Thank you guys
I'm really excited, but also quite nervous. What are some things I should or shouldn't do, or things to keep in mind while I'm there. It's with a big director and it's 3 weeks in Europe. What should I say when I meet him, what questions should I ask, who should I befriend, what can I do to keep myself grounded, etc. thank you!!
My teacher has pointed out to me that my own body language (as in how I move when I'm not playing a character) is very unique, so much so that it's limiting my range of characters I can play because my natural body language always shows through.
This has especially become an issue recently because we're doing this project where I'm playing multiple characters in different scenes, but because all of them just look like they have my body language / mannerisms they don't seem like separate characters, they just all seem like me in different costumes.
Apparently my body language is too tense, too rigid, "too puppet-like."
Like I kind of knew that I wave my arms around when I talk, but a lot of people do that, don't they?
Also apparently I move my neck too much, I breathe too heavy, my eyes "look like they're rolling back into my head" when I'm performing.
I wasn't even consciously aware that my body language was like this. It's always been like this, and I never even knew about it, which makes it even more difficult to change. I guess people had kind of pointed out stuff about my mannerisms in the past but that was mostly before I had started taking acting training so it wasn't really something that I had thought much of.
My teacher has also made me aware recently that my shoulders are too tense all the time, I'm trying to work on that too, but I don't know how to go about it, because as I said, I've always been like this.
Does anyone have any kind of advice for working on these kinds of things?
I'm feeling rather lost here.
I'm from Delhi Technological University. We've built a startup aimed at creating a platform for artists (actors, writers, directors, dubbing artists, etc.), where they can create their profiles, upload their skills, and showcase their work. Casting agencies or studios can then hire them from our platform
However, we lack firsthand knowledge of the struggles artists face. We're seeking information about struggling artists or what they really need.
So we are conducting a survey via Google form (attached link below) for ground research. If you or your fellow artists could spare some time to fill out this Google form, it will really helpful for us.
I live in Georgia and I couldn’t afford/pay my last acting class on time I’m kind of sad because I miss acting class and I want to get back into it.
I am a 16 old so if you are a creep I will report you to my uncle (he’s a cop)
I love writing scripts in hopes I will one day flim my own movies/tv shows. I love acting too because if I couldn’t act or make my own movies/tv shows I would at least like to act.
I want to connect with people my age that like acting or writing so I can grow and achieve my goals.
Thank you for reading.😊
Hey there I’m m25 and new to the whole acting thing. I have a passion for it but certain financial situations and other stuff has prevented me from pursuing it. Anyways long story short.
As I said I’m 25 and I’m not trying to start at 30. I want to start immediately. The last thing I want is to enroll in a 2-4 yr acting “college” unless it’s absolutely necessary.
I have an acting studio that does group classes and stuff for 40$ for two times a week or I recently got into a talent agency that said they teach acting among other stuff but money is something I’m tight on atm. I work part time atm.
Please any advice. Ik there are no shortcuts but at my age I’m trying to get started and get out there as fast as possible. What should I do?? All private messages are welcome as well. :)
Hello everyone, I act in my university theatre the director gives me a role in the play and this role is divided into 6 different characters and every character has a different way of talking and looking and the actor who will play this role is required to play those different characters due to the script, so is there is any advices or tips on how I successfully play this role?
