Started using DAW very recently and I need it for basic recording stuff with my Strat I wanna know if its stock effects are enough for the usual kinds of music? Nothing too flashy, and probably not making my own music either Using Lite 12 btw.
When Ableton Live first launched, it wasn’t just another DAW—it was a tool designed for live performance and fluid, non-linear music creation. It broke the mold of traditional recording software, giving producers and performers a new way to interact with music in real-time.
Fast forward to today, and music production has evolved in ways we couldn’t have imagined. AI-assisted composition, real-time collaboration, mobile production, and even generative music tools are changing how we create. Yet, DAWs—including Ableton—still mostly follow the same core structure.
So, what’s next? Will Ableton evolve beyond the traditional DAW model and redefine music-making again? Could we see a future where AI plays a bigger role in shaping ideas, or where music is created through intuitive, hardware-driven interfaces rather than a screen?
Ableton changed the game once—can it do it again? Or have we reached the peak of what a DAW can be? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Have to admit that I never got into M4L, as it just slowed Live down and caused lots of crashes. But as it meanwhile is built into the app, I‘m starting to accept that fact and give it a try.
But as I‘m a bit lost with all these devices, I‘d love to hear about your 3 favourite ones?
Tech house track made on ableton , I’m learning I want some feedback I’m looking to improve enough to build my own tracks , I’m struggling with finding good melodic patterns, and some basics on ableton like sidechain bass and kick plus sog structure and arrangement, but that’s my nest move and I’m aware this track lacks a lot of that basic stuff , I made this for fun and because I want to improve , right now I can’t even focus on basic tasks because of life issues but making electronic music is a passion I don’t want to let go , this is for who loves electronic music , the vocals were just thrown in there because I love Allan watts voice and words , but that’s something I can work on thank you 🫶
Tech house is life 🫶
Sorry in advance if my technical speak is wrong, but I've been guitarist for several years but only now am I starting to use DAWs and amp sims I've added plug-in versions of Tonocracy, NAM and Bias to my plug-ins tab, and they all SHOW UP IN THE PLUGINS list, but when I choose one and the plugin window opens up, none of them register any input signal, and thus ableton records clean tones no matter which preset I select. All the amp sims work when I use them as standalone options. Absolutely nothing wrong with my Scarlett either, and the audio settings on Ableton are set to the scarlett as they should What am I missing here? I tried the same thing on Reaper, and the problem persists I use 12 Lite btw.
Recently upgraded to intro 12 from lite 12. Now my projects wont save when I attempt to save a live set. This isn't an issue where I'm using features from the suite trial. I never had it. I've authenticated my new intro purchase too. Any ideas?

I put together some hardware and some stems to perform live with an acoustic flute player, let me know what you guys think as well as any suggestions on how to refine further for future sets!
Hi,
I'm struggling with recording electric guitar via Ableton Live 12. It is weird because I have been able to record guitar in the past. I've done quite some trouble shooting and cannot pin down the problem.
The situation is the following: the guitar is properly plugged in, I get a signal in Ableton, when the proper channel is selected. When I'm not recording, I can clearly hear the clean sound of the guitar. However, when I record (and listen to the recording), or add effects to the signal (using Guitar Rig 7), the sound is very bad. It is silent and very chopped up, as if only half the signal is coming through and is being processed.
I know it is not due to my digital interface because I encounter the same problem with another digital interface. I use a macbook Air M2.
I think it might be caused by one of the following elements:
- I use a USB Hub with plenty of midi devices attached
- my sound card (CoreAudio) is broke
Anyone knows what could be the issue and what could help solve the issue?
Thanks!
Hello everyone.
I am about to lose my shit real bad so here goes the problem.
I am running a cracked version of ableton live suite 12. Long story made super short
-> Version got unauthorized, I thought I ll buy it next month since I now am in a much better financial place than I was
-> I however start working on a track in the unauthorized version since I am stupid and impatient
-> I finish the track, best thing I ve ever made
-> version still unauthorised, can't export, can't save
-> it hit me that I probably won't be able to neither legitimately authorize the cracked version, nor re ebable the crack
If you have any clue on how I can do either or something else entirely that I haven't thought of please help, I really want to save this track as due to its structure it will be particularly hard to rewrite
Anything you might know my dudettes and dudes Thank you
does anyone know how to get LES to work in 12suite? i just made the upgrade from 11 to 12 suite and although the menu does pop up when i double click, I can not get ANY of my plugins to actually come up when I click on any of them. is there anyone who knows how to fix this? or perhaps someone who knows someone else that knows? thanks for you help.
This interface is driving me nuts i cant be the only one . what the heck is going on here
I rarely see anyone mixing vocals on ableton and there aren´t as much tutorials about it. I have been only using ableton though but always got mixes from others, having to send the vocals as wav. to engineers. Any tips on it? I know to use buses at least but maybe plugin recommendations and in general things that help mixing in ableton, workflow is so good and i like everything else about it already.
Hey guys I share with you before some presets in the style of Daft Punk, Justice, Flume, Chromeo, Breakbot, and many more artists that inspire us, but if you haven’t check them all out there are still some different freebies available, I hope you like them https://synthctrl.com/collections/free
Why is Ableton using only a handful of my Cores? I own a 13700KS and 64GB of Ram.When I render out my project to wav it is annoying that Live uses so few of the cores. And even the used cores are not really busy up to 100% Jus a little rant.
Hi All. I wanted to ask if Ableton (the Live) one can be used for music production, mixing, and mastering??
It’s because I wanted to kind of cut down expenses and also try making music now without using a whole lot of tools.
Thank u
hi all. I actually am new to music production and want to know if anyone has tried “transferring” files in fl studio to ableton or do I have to recreate the sounds from fl in Ableton.
This is because I want to try all things from music production to mixing and mastering in FL because it’s supposedly free lifetime updates. And I wanted to try making music there first before I transfer to Ableton.
I own a Novation 49 MK4.
If I use it with Ableton 12 Intro, and start recording (no matter whether it's by pressing F9 or the midi controller record button), the piano roll automatically closes ("no clip selected") and Ableton seems to record to a new clip on top of the already existing clip:
https://i.ibb.co/djGqJhy/Screenshot-2025-01-21-212938.png
Now, if I disconnect the Launchkey and press F9 to record, or just disable to remote controller in Ableton, the piano roll does NOT close, and I see the cursor moving in it (obviously I cannot record actual notes without a controller).
I'd like the piano roll to stay open and see the notes as I record them (effectively recording to the SAME clip). I assumed this issue is caused by Ableton setting the Launchkey into a certain mode (Session, Device, Mixer, etc.), but no matter what Mode I switch to on the Launchkey (even in custom mode), the piano roll keeps on closing and Ableton creates a new clip.
Is this somehow preventable?
I already tried MIDI overdub without success. It has to be something related to the Launchkey, since connecting it is apparently the trigger for this behaviour.
