Multiple GPU and PCI-e Speed

I'm considering purchasing a X870e ProArt motherboard. Although I have a question, which I've asked elsewhere as well.

I was reading this post, and a motherboard which I'm planning on purchasing which is an AMD board has three GPU slots. I plan on populating all three slots. Except if the first slot is used it's x16, if the first two are used it drops to x8. I'm guessing if all three are used the last slot is x4.

Therefore should I place a 4xxx series card in the first slot and 3xxx series in the other two. Will that give me x16 for the 4xxx series and x8 for the other two 3xxx or only x4 for the 3xxx ?

Zenbook S 16" (2024) SSD upgrade (8TB SOLVED?)

This is a long running follow up to a thread that kosherhalfsourpickle posted months ago. To summarize a long a painful journey ASUS dropped the ball hard on the bios for the zenbook S 16 with an error that prevented any drive running a Phison controller from being detected if it was larger than 2tb. After fighting with tech support for months to get the same answer that there was no QVL for the laptop and nothing was supported beyond the 1tb drive that shipped with the laptop, myself and others kept digging.

I tried a number of drives before narrowing down the issue with the Phison controller and started testing drives outside this with Samsung being the front runner and WD being the second option. I was able to get a 2TB 990 Pro to boot and run but there were stability issues with any heavy loads causing a full system crash. More testing seemed to place the root here at thermal management and I was able to get better results by adding polypads to the drive. This got day to day under control but backup's or large installations would result in thermal crashes. Unsatisfied I kept testing pulling in the WD SN850X and to my surprise I was not only able to get the 8tb drive to not only detect in the bios but survive a crystal mark stress test. The read/write speeds are not the top of the stack but the fact that I can have the unattainable (according to ASUS support) greater than 1TB drive.

For me this was one of the largest issues with what should have been a slam dunk from ASUS. I even titled my youtube review "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" as I felt that this was one of the best laptops I have used in years but the bios issue was crippling. So hopefully this will be a light at the end of the tunnel for others. It is possible to have a large drive on the system and maybe someday will will get a bios update that fixes the phison controller issue but I am not holding my breath there.

Zenbook for Business

Are Zenbooks reliable enough for a business setting? I need something that will last 3 - 4 years with no hardware issues. We are traditionally a ThinkPad shop, but really like the looks of the new S14

Will a new Zenbook Pro be released soon?

I’m looking at the Zenbook Pro 14 but I’ve heard that new computers are announced annually in December/January. Are they planning on doing that this year too? I don’t want to upgrade right before they launch a new version.

Help! Can not “enable” secure boot in BIOS

Hi all, I’m completely new here. To the ASUScommunity page and to Reddit. With that said, I recently bought a pre built IBUYPOWER pre build from Costco and although I’m extremely pleased with it, I can’t play Valorant because I can not simply enable “secure boot” in my BIOS. And the exact reason why is because my BIOS is different than all the videos I’ve seen on YouTube and online about fixing it by going in the BIOS and through the security tab enabling it. My BIOS does not have a security tab but does have a “secure boot” option but in a different tab. And the only options that are available to me are “standard” and “custom” both of which I’ve tried and restarted and secure boot remains off. Keep in mind I’m not computer savvy so any help with have to keep it in laymens terms please. I’ve seen a few posts say to turn of CSM blah blah blah but I’m trying to not destroy my brand new computer while at the same time playing a simple game. Thanks for the help in advance!!!!!

Asus Zenbook S16 hx 370 Fan/Performance profile

As stated here

https://youtu.be/8YTDgiQqkrM?t=383

using MyAsus one can set Fan Profile to Full-speed mode.

I'm planning to run Linux on this laptop.

So, can i configure Full-speed mode via BIOS (like on Lenovo laptops) ?

rt-ax58u link speed half what it should be

i use this router for pcvr, i posted about this on that reddit to see if anyone had advice but it seems to be a router issue. my link speed is usually 1200 but sometimes it gets up to 2400. i know its capable of 2400mbps but it doesn’t seem to want to. my vr headset and pc are the only things connected to the router and there are no obstructions. the router is in AP mode and the connection to the parent router isn’t great but i don’t think that should cause this issue. any ideas?

Issue with order on Belgian Asus E-store

I’ve ordered a zenbook 14 OLED UM3406 via the official Asus website. The site seems legit (asus.com). The order was placed on October 13 and paid immediately. The payment was done on the account of Digital River Ireland ltd which apparently is the official reseller of the site. Afterwards nothing… The order is mentioned as canceled (demande annulée) although the payment was proceeded. I’ve called the help desk, send emails etc but nobody’s can help me. Just asking me to wait… Can someone please help me here ?

Battery Draining Issue On my ROG Phone 3

Hi guys, I bought the ROG Phone 3 Strix in 2021. Recently, I've been facing several problems:

  1. SIM Card Issue: My phone occasionally shows 'SIM card not installed.' Restarting temporarily fixes the issue, but it keeps recurring. After consulting a shop, I was advised that it was a SIM issue, so I duplicated the SIM. Since then, the problem has only happened once.

  2. System UI Problem: At times, I get an error message saying 'System UI not supported,' and the phone freezes. When I press the power button and reopen the phone, it works normally for a while. This issue lasted for about 2-3 weeks before it stopped.

  3. Battery Issue: My phone's battery drains quickly and takes over two hours to fully charge. Once it reaches 50%, the phone often shuts down automatically and won't turn back on unless it's connected to a charger. After resetting the phone, the battery problem persists, so it’s currently my main issue. I have noticed that the battery issues began after I started to put my phone on Battery Power Saving mode. And now when I checked my battery usage I found that something named "OTHERS" uses about 50 percent of my battery. Here I'll upload the screenshot.

If anyone has any solution to this problem please help me.

ASUS S16 Laptop Weird Noise

Hi,

Purchased a brand new ASUS S16 laptop and sometimes (not all the time), it makes a weird noise coming from the top left corner of the laptop (not sure what's inside in that corner).

Do you think this noise is normal or should I have the laptop replaced? (May need to crank up your volume)

Thank you

BIOS Update 3601 - A Significant Improvement

I've been testing the new ASUS BIOS updates, and I'm impressed with the latest version 3601.

My experience:

  • Previous testing: I initially tested the beta version .3410 with XMP I enabled for my Trident Z5 2x16 6000Mhz CL30 RAM. The system ran flawlessly for several days.
  • Latest update: The newest update, .3601, has exceeded my expectations. I've noticed even lower voltage fluctuations, more consistent temperatures, and slightly better overall performance compared to the previous versions.
  • Benchmarks: Using Cinebench 2024, I ran 15-minute tests multiple times. With the .3601 update, CPU temperatures remained consistently below 65°C, a significant improvement from the 76-80°C peaks I experienced with .3401.
  • Memory stability: I've run Memtest86 for several hours (~12hrs in total) to verify RAM stability, and I haven't encountered any issues.

Overall, I highly recommend updating to BIOS version .3601. It's clear that ASUS has made significant improvements with this release.

My system specs:

  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B660-G
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700 (Non-K)
  • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 2x16GB 6000Mhz CL30
  • Cooling : Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2

Feel free to share your experiences with this update in the comments below.

B650E-F and EXPO

I know that about a year ago there were numerous reports of issues with ASUS boards and EXPO profiles, such as really slow boot times and system instability. I can't find any info on if this is still the case. If I get the B650E-F will I run into any slow boot times or system instability when using 6000mhz ddr5 ram, or have those issues been resolved? Thanks! I'm not sure if this should be tagged discussion or support.

Be careful with motherboard replacements

A word of warning to anyone getting a replacement motherboard. Make sure Asus has programmed it with the right serial number and information. If not, you lose your Windows license along with all relevant information about your laptop. I took mine in for service and nowi cannot activate Windows.

Urgent Help Needed from Asus Support: My Asus ROG Strix G15 (SN: MANRKD005459408) Has a Damaged Motherboard, Repair is Unaffordable as a Student

Hey everyone,

I’m not usually one to post on forums, but I’m feeling pretty lost right now and thought maybe someone here could give me some guidance. My name’s Abhay, and I’m a final-year engineering student. I’ve been relying on my Asus ROG Strix G15 (Model: G513QE-HN160T, Ryzen 9 CPU, RTX 3050 Ti GPU) (SN: MANRKD005459408) for my studies and my project, which has honestly become my whole world lately.

What Happened
A while back, my laptop got liquid damage on the motherboard, and it completely stopped working. When I brought it to the service center, they quoted me a repair cost that’s almost as much as buying a new laptop—around 80% of the original price. As a student, there’s just no way I can afford this.

Why This Laptop Matters So Much
This isn’t just a computer to me; it’s my whole setup for my final-year project. I’m working on building a deep learning model for medical image analysis, something I’ve poured months of work into, hoping it might make a real difference in the future. Without this laptop, though, I can’t move forward, and it feels like everything I’ve worked for could be at risk.

Reaching Out for Help
I’ve tried contacting Asus support, but so far, nothing’s worked out that I can afford. I’m hoping someone here might know if there’s a way to get a replacement, discount, or even some support from Asus that could help me out. Has anyone been through something similar? Or does anyone know if there’s a way to get in touch with someone at Asus who might understand my situation?

Any Advice Would Mean the World
I’m genuinely open to any suggestions at this point. I don’t know what else to do, but I’m not ready to give up on my project or my future. Thank you so much for reading, and thank you in advance for any help or advice. I’m attaching a picture of the damage too, just to show what happened.

Artifacts/Flickering (PG32UCDM Monitor)

I just got this monitor on Friday (10/1). It’s been working great until this morning. I decided to play call of duty and noticed some flicker in the menus. Figured it was the standard OLED flicker and I didn’t see it in game so whatever. However, I started noticing artifacts (see video). This was a concern because I never saw them when playing Throne and Liberty all day yesterday. I immediately started to investigate and I cannot find out what’s going on. VRR and GSync are enabled. This happens in all resolutions and refresh rates. I have an HDMI 2.1 cord from ASUS. My drivers and windows update are all up to date. This is not happening on my laptop monitor. 4090 GPU and Ryzen 9 7495HX3D. I have reinstalled NVIDIA drivers as well, restarted my PC, disabled and reenabled VRR and GSync, updated firmware to no avail. I just hooked up my other monitor and it works fine. Again, this was working perfectly until an hour ago.

ASUS M5A97 EVO2/M52BC

I came across this MOBO on Aliexpress (my old Sabertooth 990FX doesn’t want to post anymore). So decided to take a look on Ali to replace the motherboard, already purchased in the past from Ali and pretty happy with the results to date) and I could not find anything about it, other than the EVO R2.0 info, there is nothing that comes up on this mobo. Any ideas if this could support an AMD FX 8320E by anychance?

What am I forced to use GEN 3 for good performance?

So, i contacted ASUS support with this question, but they don't care to answer.

I have Asus Prime b550m-k, Ryzen 5 5600, RTX 3070 Founders Edition, among other things.

When in BIOS, PCI-e x16 is set to auto, and performance is horrible. When i change it from auto to GEN 4, it's the same. But when i change it to GEN 3 it runs great.

My question is WHY? Is it supposed to run like this or what is the problem?

BIOS is on latest version btw.

Zenbook Duo charging problem

Hi,

When I'm using the laptop and connecting the charger, the percentage drains the battery or is stuck on say 55%. It charges ok when the device is switched off and charging. it's like the adaptor is not providing enough power.

TUF Gaming FX505DT Wireless card purchase

Hello, I have a ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT laptop (AMD Ryzen 5) for a few years now and WIFI has stopped working. I have tried everything under the sun to fix it if it was a software/driver issue, so I'm pretty convinced I need to change the Wireless adapter.

What WIFI card should I buy? I'm completely lost in figuring out what is going to be compatible (not sure what specs I should be looking at) so any guidance will be appreciated.

Would you recommend a bios update for Z790 formula

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Formula

CPU: Intel i9-14900K

CPU Cooler: ASUS ROG Ryujin III

RAM: 64GB 6400MHz – G.Skill Trident Z5

Graphics Card: ASUS ROG STRIX 4080 16GB OC

Power Supply: ASUS ROG THOR 1000W

I did update the BIOS back in March but after that I didn't update anything. I'm not facing any issues with my CPU at no overheating no blue screens at all but I'm worried about degrading over time

Need help with Ghelper and sound! (ZEPHYRUS G16 2024)

DEVICE - ASUS ZEPHYRUS G16 2024 (RYZEN 9 AI)

So, I recently switched to ghelper and uninstalled armoury crate.

I usually have the "choose what closing the lid does" option to 'do nothing' under plugged in but whenever I either restart or plug in or plug out the power connector it automatically switches it to shut down when I close the lid. I have no idea whats wrong here. I tried deleted G helper and installing armoury crate but now I am facing a new issue where I am unable to install armoury crate as it just shows error 4120.

The other issue is that whenever I restart the laptop always boots up muted and i have to unmute it manually.

Not sure what made that happen.

Really dont have the energy to do a clean windows install right now as it would be too much to download and install.

Help would be highly appreciated!

vivobook s 15 or zenbook 14

Lately i have been thinking about buying a new laptop because my laptops battery dies so fast and i'd like a lighter laptop. The current laptop I have is a thinkbook p15 with an i5 10300H and a gtx 1650 max q. The laptops I am deciding between are the vivobook s 15 with the snapdragon x plus chip, a 3K 120 hz screen, 70wh battery, 16gb ram etc. The other laptop is the zenbook 14 wich uses the intel ultra 5 but only has a FHD screen, 75wh battery, and is similar for all the other parts. The reason I am not sure of wich laptop I should buy is because I have heard that vivobooks arent that high quality and I don't like that laptops have the plastic bezel around the screen. Also very important I use this mostly for programing in assembler 86, C and taking notes so it isn't very demanding.

New PC - random freeze and restart

I just built a new PC with these specs

- asus tuf b650-e motherboard

- ryzen 7600

- thermaltake assasin X cooler

- asus tuf 4070 super oc

- asus tuf 850w gold PSU

- klevv bolt v 2x16 gb ram

- kingston

I'm experiencing many issues

1- coil whine from GPU, tried another old ROG 1050ti and same coil whine

2- coil whine from motherboard VRMs next to CPU and ram, stopped after disabling core performance boost and PBO

3- the most annoying issue is random freeze then restart without BSOD and in event viewer i'm getting kernel power 142 & 41 errors. this can happen when i leave the PC for some time without doing anything or when I'm using Chrome
diabled chrome hardware acceleration, still same issue

the tests i did

- reseat the ram

- go back to CPU stock cooler

- update motherboard BIOS to latest version

- disable EXPO, core performance boost and PBO

does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this ?
