We all have that song that we have to stop what we're doing and relive the moment that we were in when it played back then.
I never got to try the fancy Moon shoes.
They've milked the hell out of this franchise but it's always at its best when you can just smell the 90s on it, especially in the colors.
hi, i’m not a 90s kid but i am a 2000’s kid who grew up with a 90s sister. i have this vivid memory of playing this game on our old dinosaur computer but i don’t remember if it was a game or if it was a website. on this game/website there was a ton of options to pick from, like learning about countries or about famous art. i can’t exactly put a name to it, but i remember somewhat of the layout. it was greenish blue, there was a side bar with information on it and up on top, there were sections, more like pictures of the subject you wanted to learn. i think there were also videos you could watch based on the subject you picked but i genuinely can’t remember because i was only about 5 or 6 maybe. any ideas on what it could be?
So, Spice World sure is a movie... and a pretty darn good one.
I'm not kidding. For a Spice Girls tie-in film this is actually pretty enjoyable and a fun time. It's just irresistably campy, and the Girls themselves are actually likeable and charming, ESPECIALLY Victoria. I think her acting talents are kinda underrated. The real star of the show however is Clifford, the Girls' manager (played expertly by Richard E. Grant). He's just so over the top that it's hilarious.
Most of the other celebrity guest stars are funny too, like Alan Cumming playing a hapless documentary maker; Jennifer Saunders playing Edina Monsoon (which means Spice World and Absolutely Fabulous take place in the same universe!); the late Roger Moore playing the Chief, the Girls' unusual manager; the late Barry Humphries playing a deliciously evil J. Jonah Jameson expy; Michael Barrymore playing an also over-the-top dance instructor; and George Wendt (Norm from Cheers) playing one of the movie executives who want to make a movie about the Girls.
The satire is pretty funny too! I especially love when the producers come up with rather ludicrous ideas for a Spice Girls movie, later setting up an action packed climax that happens in real time with Victoria driving the Spice Bus to get to their concert on time. The scene in particular where it cuts to a toy bus (because the producers say a stunt like that can be expensive) make me laugh my ass off! I also love how they're not afraid to poke fun of themselves (Jools Holland says "That was perfect without actually being any good...") and their fans (the famous alien encounter).
I mean, what else is there to say? It's Spice World! Fantastic movie, perfect for superfans of one of the most influential girl groups of all time.
