Hi everyone.
Im looking to start a 458 Socom build. Not trying to spend crazy money on it but it needs to work without drama. I’m aware of Tromix and what they do. Can I pair a Aero XL upper and Aero R-One handguard with a Tromix barrel/bcg combo? I like the Aero uppers/lowers especially in coyote Tan.
Faxon 458 barrels any good? Should I avoid Bear Creek Arsenal 458 complete uppers ?
I also need a recommendations on a good muzzle brake that will not blow gas in my face. I see all kinds of threads for 458. Nothings seems to be standard. 11/16x24, 5/8x32, 5/8x24.
Im right hand left eye dominant but I dont buy left hand rifles. Anyone here shooting a right hand 458 with left side? Trying to see hows the ejection/blowback with the 458.
Thanks.
I ordered a blemished 8' tromix upper some time ago and still havent shot it yet. Are Tromix's good? I know it's suppose to be but anyone runing this upper have any issues with it?
Edit: Okay smart@'s sorry for the ' and not a "
Wanted to get everyone's opinion on what the best can is for .458 surpressed. Mostly using maker 500gr subs so sound reduction is priority. Not worried about dimensions of the can and am shooting out of tromix 10 in 1-10 twist. Will likely be getting a 16" bolt gun get the 650gr makers ad well.
Let me know your guys thoughts.
G'day, all. I put in an order to Scheels the other day and on a whim to get free shipping added 100 300 grain Hornady Interlock HP bullets. Surprisingly, Hornady doesn't have any load data for the 458 SOCOM on their app.
Hodgdon does have some loads listed but they are all subsonic. I've seen some folk on here using CFE BLK and they used the 325 Hornady FTX as a starting point. I do have this data from a book and have been reloading with H110 and X-Terminator.
Just looking for insights.
Anyone else ever work on loads with these 300 grain bullets?
Handloads. 300gr Barnes TTSX did the job. First kill with the 458
Started life as a Southern Ballistic Research (SBR) AR458 which I cant seem to find much info on.
Tromix billet upper (anodizing blem) Southern Ballistic Research lower Teppo Jutsu 16" barrel 5/8x32 thread Aero enhanced 15" handguard Ergo suregrip PRI A2 Stock PRI gas buster big latch CMC 2.5lb trigger CMMG upper completion kit Reptilia AUS 1.54" Zeiss conquest V4 1-4x24 Liberty Goliath
Just for clarification I do own a 46m which I know will work.
Since buying my first suppressor(30cal) a few years ago that I had planned to run across multiple platforms Ive managed to rack up a fairly decent stamp collection…so now days with a new platform it’s not do I have a can for it, more like what can will I buy for it. I was warned before getting into this game lol.

Can anyone tell my why or what the fix is for this sort of malfunction? It happens about every 5th round, I've tried all sorts of different Projectiles from flat point to round nose. They are all hand loads, but I've tried loading them longer, to shorter, gas settings. A slight pull and release of the bolt will usually send the round into battery, but its super annoying. Besides just going to a Troomix bolt I dont know what to try next. LANCER 20 round 458 cut mags, different gas settings ect. Any help would be awesome.
G'day all. Did some searches here rather that on r/reloading although I could pop over there too. It seemed more specialized here though. Saw some load data for H110, lil gun, and a few others. I am new into the heavier loads like the SOCOM shoots so I wondered if you had your go to powders for these ranges of bullets. I may end up with some heavier loads eventually but these were mid range and seemed to provide a good starting point.
Berrys 350 grain
Hornady 325 grain FTX
Hornady 410 grain SubX
Speer 400 grain flat point
Any thoughts on ShootersWorld SOCOM (Lovex D063-01) powder?
I reload a LOT (a pair of 750s and rockchucker) and have several powders that I use regularly for .223, .308 and 300BLK as well as most handgun rounds.
Thanks for any insights.
Taking Vera out blackbear hunting in Washington soon. :)
Got my little ACOG, got my 5 rd mags, got my 500gn rounds, got my suppressor, got my 10.5" barrel, got my paperwork.
Am v v excited.
That is all. <3
Hopefully I'll update with some pics soon.
So far digging the heck out of this form factor.
Can't find the STL on my PC or online anymore unfortunately. But figured I would see if anyone else had it.
The regular GI follower STL has a different leading edge and doesn't work in these. In the correct GI mags they are fine and 10 round as normal.

I'm going Tromix for the muzzle brake on my build, but I'm not sure which one is better, or the pros and cons of both. Also open to suggestions. The barrel is threaded 5/32 if that helps. https://tromix.com/product/muzzle-brake-4-port/ Vs https://tromix.com/product/458-tank-brake/
Aero XL upper and Lead Star lower
I'm interested in building one of these.. What buffer weight should I use with this upper?

Rest of the build will be MILSPEC...
Thanks!
Was worth waiting to get this to solve the issue. She's good to go now.

Kinda tempted to try them out. Do I need 18 rounds. I don't know. Hope not. Feels more reasonable though. Got used to 30 of 5.56 and feels weird having 1/3 of that per mag.
Dropped it off with a gunsmith that had an alignment tool for the tube, it was off, but it turns out the gas key was a little bent too. Which the issue of my other carriers not getting as hung up on the tube as this one made sense.
The pistol is up and running now.
I was thinking of doing a 9x39 build but since I already have 458 not adding another load for reloading would be optimal.
I know Tromix has the shotgun barrel blank that they for 458, it's in a 16-in only though. I wanted to do a 10.5" 1:10 and make an ISB AK and haven't found anyone that can make one, already asked Tromix and they said no.
I recently bought 2# of 11fs by accident but the price was right. It's a tad faster than cfe black which I've used before. A bit slower than lil gun. Curious what everyone thinks. It is generally for .357 mag. 41mag. 44mag. I bought it thinking I saw load data for 10mm. I was wrong. My tromix 458 upper is 12" I actually think cfe black was a bit slow for it as I get quite the flame out the muzzle and every now and again from the ejection port too. Even with middle of the road load data under 300 and 325gr.
Completely new to this round. picked one up for what I think is pretty cheap at a estate sale, it's a Anderson lower with a unknown upper ( was told Anderson upper). After doing some looking I've noticed a decent amount of sub par ammunition causing issues for people. The rounds I have for it are precision one 350 grain flat nose. Has anybody had issues or experience with this ammo? Is it gonna junk this unknown quality gun haha. Any Input appreciated
I have some 458 hardened lead bullets I use for 45-70 that have a brinell hardness of 18, will this still cause issues with clogging the gas port?
Edit: Suppressed too
Found a guide and bent the tube for clearance and it's closer but still not perfect. Pic is before bending and tube isn't in all the way so you can see it hitting the top of the gas tube channel. I found there is a gas tube alignment tool for $40 and I am going to order it and stop effing with this for now.
The 458 carrier and bolt I use between guns and the gas key is tight. The Tube is wonky, but alignment is perfect. Weirdly enough the other 2 carriers I tried slide right on this tube. Only the carrier I use with my 458s has this issue on this tube.
I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered an oddball scenario like this but the tube is definitely misshaped.
This is the best my cellphonetography skills could do.
Hoping the new tube solves this issue.
There's a 9.75" rando brando that would match the Midwest but the 9.5x Geissele was a good deal. The Aero P-Nut butter in 10" was just a smidge too long.
