As the title states - I am looking to replace the oil filter tree gasket with the engine and turbo in the car. After digging around it seems this may be possible if you remove the pass side wastegate arm. I looked underneath and it looks like there is a c-clip and cotter pin holding the rod in place. Even with 90* (albeit chunky) needle nose pliers I can't quite get the angle to get the cotter pin nor C clip off.
Any tips or tricks here? I feel like if I am stuck on step 1, then this may not be the job for me :)
I know this is probably a stupid question but is the 2+0 the same as base model
Who here has tinted their t-top glass and what percentage? I do have the factory shades anymore.
I can’t remember if a stock T3 is 35MM on housing, am I correct kinda forgot. Seems like the main forum was taken down that answered all my questions :/
I have this 1985 300zx, in the process of redoing the front suspension and I haven't started it in a while. I fire it up to this bottom end noise, runs fine and is only at idle. When I bought it, there was some shoddy wiring to the oil pressure sending unit, 2 wires. I have no electronic oil pressure reading, the dash warning light doesn't come on either with key on. I tested oil pressure months ago with a mechanical gauge to get around 12 psi at idle and up to 40-60 under a neutral rev.
Has anyone heard this before? I don't feel the knock in the drivers pedal. Speeds up with rpms but goes away over 1.5k rpm.
Not sure how the audio is on this video but hopefully someone has heard this before. Thanks bros
I have a 85 z31 turbo, and im wondering how much hp I can put on it reliably before I have to boost the internals for reliable run. im planning on putting it on e85, straight pipe, on some Ceilka type 1m coilovers and a wrench turbos, pure turbo upgrade and CXracing z31 intercooler kit and some fire stone all seasons with a custom tune from champion motors. will this run reliably for me to daily drive it in the summer and have a blast or problems incoming? and if I can get 400 hp without the turbo then I dont want to upgrade it if the other mods can boost it enough already because daily drivablity is a big factor for me and I heard the VG line is a reliable engine family.
Hey guys, as i went to start my car today i noticed a somewhat strong smell of fuel coming from the engine bay. I looked at the fuel filter and the lines from what i can see at the top and they don’t seem to be leaking. I don’t have time to check under the car right now but is there anywhere else/ things i should look for.
Thanks to everyone who’s been checking out my z32 content. My first video to hit 3000 views today!
Had some issues getting 12v to everything on startup. I’ll do a write up soon on that. But, it runs! Idle isn’t set right, but it’s close. Little bit of lifter tap from sitting so long.
Any way to adjust headlights without moving the whole headlight with the little adjusters, i find the adjusters fine for aligning headlights until i realise that they ruin the panel gap and fitment of the headlights and look like shit just so i can see at night… i love these headlights so much though 😜
Edit: the headlight tool is missing from The car aswell
Has anyone experienced a creaking sound coming from the roof/t-top area or the body panels surrounding the windshield?
I recently started paying attention to this sound and it only seems to happen when driving onto a sloped area or entering an angle of elevation.
It feels like the stress of the car is being exerted onto these body panels.
I did recently go over a speed bump a bit too fast and slammed the undercarriage against the bump (my Z is slightly lowered). Hoping this had nothing to do with the sound I’m hearing, but I noticed the sound after the speed bump incident.
Any advice on what this sound could be would help; or if it’s normal and other owners have experienced the same.
Thanks in advance.
I hope this helps!
Just mildly sad that I never got to use this. Was by far the cleanest setup I ever made. Perks of being at an engineering college and having access to one of the many prototyping labs with 3D printers and laser cutting tables 😂😭
What I would give to still have access now lol
Currently have a 90 NA with 26mm calipers. Wanting to get new pads and rotors but was thinking of going to 30mm calipers as well. Is this upgrade worth it for the NA on stock power?
Hi y'all,
I've been hard at work prototyping and testing some new reproduction parts for you guys.
Speaking of work, here's some company news, today we are releasing two new products for 1984-1989 Nissan 300zx:
We are still taking product suggestions - anything that can be feasibly 3D printed, and is NLA or hard to find for our 300zx (Z31 and Z32). Also, we don't just do 300zx, if you or a friend has another old vintage car that has NLA or hard to find parts, let us know which part that is and we will design and produce it! If you'd like to keep up to date with new product releases, please subscribe to our newsletter!
Again, thank you all for your support.
Let's keep old cars alive!
I have a 1993 twin turbo Z32 and am needing to either rebuild my lifters or get new ones and if I went the new route I’d prefer OEM hydraulic lifters. I haven’t been able to find any new ones anywhere online tho and can only find used ones from Z1. Does anyone know where I can find new OEM lifters?
Car won’t start I checked the pump just to be sure. It ran this morning and all of last week. It’ll start after like 4 hours of sitting. Any ideas?
I had it in the garage last winter with the engine out. I'm so stoked to have the privilege of driving such a cool, retro car (with a working heater!) this winter season. I also found out why you shouldn't try to swing an open differential RWD car on half melted roads 😂
Took advantage of the mild temps and went for a spirited drive through the Appalachian mountains. She recently acquired the 86 and it’s really fun driving them back to back. It’s amazing what 30 years of chassis R&D does. 86 feels fantastic in the corners but honestly the Z holds up extremely well. The Z does have very mild suspension setup with some 275 Michelin super sports which probably helps in regard to the corners.
1986 turbo with 76k miles. Original engine and components. Regular oil changes. Consistent care. That's all it took.
I'm going to buy a z31 turbo soon. I've heard stock the car can take 10psi with a boost controller. Am I missing anything important besides that? Do I need an ECU Tune or is it really just as simple as connecting a boost controller and getting like 5psi added for nothing. What really confuses me is with all that extra air (boost) wouldn't it need fuel to match or is it going to run lean?
Hey y’all. I haven’t posted my Z since I first brought it home at the beginning of October. I’ve gotten a good handful of things done already, and have a good handful more to come.
So far, she’s gotten fresh spark plugs and been switched to Castrol Synthetic blend oil. I’ve done the Pathfinder CHTS upgrade. I just changed the gear oil over to Royal Purple 75w90, and later today it will be getting a short shifter with a weighted knob.
Aside from that, the exhaust was left incomplete from the previous owners. It has a muffler, but it had no tubing after it, and it was aimed right at my E-brake cable and diff. Now as a temporary solution, I threw a tire heater on it, and honestly I’m really liking it and think I’ll stick with the side exit for awhile, but play around with it a bit.
Apologies for the mess inside the car for the first video. That was the morning after I brought it home, and hadn’t had a chance to clear out all the spare parts it came with yet.
If anybody else in here has a fun CUSTOM exhaust on their Z31, send me some! I could use some more inspiration, and I’d like to see what other people have come up with for cool custom exhausts. Do not send me your Z with MSA exhaust. I know what that sounds like already, and I want to hear Custom exhausts, not pre-built exhausts.
In this video, we’re working on this MINT 1994 Nissan 300ZX with just 21,000 miles on it. The owner brought it in to replace the Greddy exhaust with a MagnaFlow system, but we hit some unexpected challenges along the way. This particular model includes rear-wheel steering, which created fitment issues as the new system didn’t have enough clearance.
We came up with creative solutions, using TIG welding to craft precise 45- and 90-degree bends in the existing pipes to make it work seamlessly. Follow along to see the process and the custom adjustments we made to keep this beauty running and sounding amazing.
Heyo, just wanted to reach out to the community if they wanted to follow along as I Barra swap my 300zx in the states! Thank you all
Whoever did this wiring before is a moron, no power to the head unit, main power cable seems to have no current running through it, i know nothing about working on stereos…
Hi guys. I have a 1989 NA Z31 w/ 163k miles that needs the timing kit done. My mechanic neighbor and I are trying to get everything together to do the timing belt job. He's a honda guy so he isn't very in the know with the Zs. We were wondering, while we have the timing cover off, is there anything else we might as well replace while we are in there? So far we are doing: Gates Belt, Water Pump, Tensioner/Pulley, Water Bypass Hose(?), and replacing the Thermostat, since the temp gauge only works half the time. Is there anything we are missing or that would be a good idea to replace during this job to save labor costs? And does anyone know where I can get the gates kit? Are there any gaskets or seals we should get too?
Thanks for your time.
Engine finally off the stand and back in the car, and it’s running great. But now there is a loud tick on the rear passenger side of the engine. (Wasn’t there before the pull). I’m almost 100% positive it’s lifter tick, however everything I’ve been able to find and read say to just make sure oil is topped up and let it idle so it can get oil to the lifters again.
If just letting it idle is the fix, how long should it idle before going away? Also please excuse the smoke, that’s from the headers which I used an exhaust heat wrap.
For context I had the engine out, did every plenum delete, egr, coolant bypass, and pcv. Resealed the oil pan, valve covers, rear main seal and replaced every gasket I could. (It had very bad oil leaks all over before the pull). So it hasn’t had oil for a couple months while it was sitting.
I also did a lot of other stuff such as relocated the fuse box, power steering pump, and oil catch can after the pcv delete. One piece braided clutch line, full ABS delete (took out all the lines and module, and started fresh with new lines). And a battery relocation to the trunk.
If you have any questions not related to the post, lmk and I’ll do my best to answer anything. Thanks everyone, lot of good info on here.
