Fast internet speed test via wifi, but internet unstable errors

I have fiber internet internet service and regularly run internet speed tests every time I get an "Internet unstable" error on my PC or my phone (both over wifi). When I run the internet speed test, it is approximately 106Mbps / 95 Mbps and it is consistent.

My WIFI mesh network consists of three Asus Zenwifi AX nodes and my office PC is located about 6 ft from the primary node. However, I often receive "internet unstable" errors during video conference calls when working at my office desk and every other location in the house. I am usually the only person working in my house and using the internet. I am not a heavy internet user and am typically just accessing the internet via my PC or on a zoom call.

I upgraded all ethernet cables in the house to CAT6 cables recently and I am unable to figure out where the bottleneck is in my network. Any insights or recommendations?

cant connect to spectrum, what settings do i need my router in??

im house-sitting my friend’s apartment, and the router doesnt seem to be working. i can connect to the wifi on my devices, but theres no internet connection. ive tried resetting it several different times and ways.

the router is on and slowly blinking blue. the modum is on and the lights are on for power and online. when i try to connect to the wifi thru my phone, im sent to a page that says “Network connection issue. the router cannot connect to the internet with the current settings. Link to manage page”. the link leads me to a login (which the router box provides) and here it shows spectrum’s quick settings, basic, advanced, wizard. everything looks right and is on in the quick settings.

what is the settings i need my router in?? and how do i get there? any help would be greatly appreciated. my friend said her wifi was working when she left the day prior, so she doesnt understand why i cant get on.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop boots into a black screen with the cursor visible.

My laptop is 9 years old so it has some issues that need to be known:

  • The power button doesn't work so any solutions requiring shutting down, or restarting aren't possible. The battery is fairly new so letting the battery die will take 7-8 hours.

  • It boots up when the charging cord is unplugged.

  • It will only shutdown if the charging cord is plugged in. Otherwise, it will just restart.

Windows 10 is the OS.

Resetting the graphics driver with Win + Ctrl + Shift + B, or Ctrl + Alt + Del didn't work.

I was able to bring up BIOS by pressing F12 on boot. BIOS revision 1.9.0 if that's helpful.

Letting the battery die didn't fix the problem.

Boot mode is set to: UEFI; Secure Boot: Off

I have unplugged everything that was plugged into the laptop.

I tried booting into safe mode, but that didn't work.

I have a fairly recent backup on an external hard drive, and 2 old laptops that work. Both old laptops have Windows 10.

The fans both work. I opened the laptop up, and saw them both spin. I can also hear them.

The keyboard seems to respond sometimes. The light on the caps lock key turns on sometimes when I press it.

I'm able to restart it by shutting the laptop, and waiting until I hear the fans stop.

I plugged in a USB keyboard, and it does respond, but I still can't open task manager.

Win + Ctrl + shift + B does refresh the graphics driver (the cursor returns to the center of the screen), but the screen is still black.

UPDATE

I don't know if this could be the cause of the problem, but when I booted up the laptop after letting the battery die, I got a message saying that the date and time are not set, and to change it in BIOS setup. I'm in BIOS setup, but the apply button is greyed out. It can't be selected.

Here's what I see.

System Logs in BIOS setup:

BIOS Events

Power Events

UPDATE 2

Possibly fixed

I managed to boot into windows recovery environment. I chose to reset the PC, and keep the files. I'll update this when it's done.

I'm updating this while I work on finding a solution.

So far the only solutions seems to be reinstalling windows 10. I assume I have to use one of my old PCs to create a bootable USB drive by downloading the official Windows Media Creation Tool on the Microsoft website?

Weird thing on phone

So I was checking my WiFi data usage and it says a large amount was used by "Removed apps and users" but I haven't deleted any apps or accounts from my phone recently. Does anybody know what this might be?

BIOS not detecting bootable flash drive and DVD

I want to format my old second-hand laptop which I bought for $182 which I urgently needed during the pandemic using all of my savings, for my online class at university.

For the past 4 years, I successfully formatted it many times. From Windows 10 to Win 7, Win 7 --> Win 8, then Win 8 --> Win 10.

I first tried to format it using a bootable flash drive but I noticed that my BIOS can't detect my flash drive. It's a good thing that my laptop has an optical disk drive, so I used a DVD installer instead, which is the method I've been using for the past 4 years.

But this time, even the DVD method wasn't working so I didn't know what to do. Even when the CD/DVD was on the top of the boot priority order and saved it, my windows will start normally.

I don't have a lot of technical knowledge about this stuff. So I did some research. Aside from the boot priority order, I want to try to update my BIOS. This is the system information on my laptop that might be helpful:

BIOS Version/ Date: NEC Note BIOS Version /712A0300, 8/4/2011

BIOS Mode: Legacy
BaseBoard Product: PBLH0
BaseBoard Version: 20N2

My problem now is, I can't find any available BIOS updates on mine:

PBLH0

There's no search result on the Intel website. I tried to search it normally on google like:

Intel PBLH0 BIOS update

But still no search results.

So I hope someone can help me and share the link here if you ever found one. That would be a great help.

So aside from:

  1. Boot Priority Order
  2. BIOS update

Do you have any suggestions and advice on why my old BIOS (2011) can't detect any flash drive? I could format using a DVD installer before via an optical disc drive, but now, the windows will start normally even if my CD/DVD was on the top of the boot priority order.

Btw, this is what my BIOS look like since I don't know if I need to change some settings:

what charging ports are these?

so i got some cheap dumbphones from some dodgy shop because i love old teach (2000s, maybe a bit of 90s type of stuff, yk) but two of them have charging ports i have never seen before. both look a bit like micro USB, but wider. the charging port on the black samsung sliding phone is wider than the one on the hello kitty phone. the hello kitty phone is chinese if that helps to identify the type of charger. i have pictures of both of them next to a micro USB charger and charging port (on the yellow phone) for scale, as well as just pictures of the whole phone so they can be identified, and finally a picture of both the unidentified charging ports next to eachother. they're not in great condition, but i plan on cleaning them up. also would be a bonus to know what kind of headphone jack is on the hello kitty one, because it's certainly a lot smaller than im used to. please excuse the camera quality.

Installing windows, loading screen frozen

It's been around 8+ hours since I've let installing windows up and running. The percentage is still 9% and the dots are frozen. Prevous errors/issues before I attempted to reinstall windows are the following: log file c: /windows/system32/logfiles/srt/srttrail.txt Frozen screen when restarting PC Attempted solutions before reinstalling: Command prompt scannow, bootrec Unplugging unnecessary peripherals Uninstalling and reinstalling HDD, RAM, SSD, and GPU (worked last time I've encountered this issue) Startup recovery (resulted in srt) Attempting all previous solutions several times.

Continued MemTest Errors after multiple part swaps.

Hello folks, I’ve been having intermittent game crashes for a few weeks now. I deduced that the PSU was probably going bad (lound clicking noise every half hour or so) so I swapped that, but no luck.

Then I ran MemTest, and got errors on test 6, so I got some new ram of the same size and speed. Plugged those in and again got errors on test 6. So I put back in the old ram and swapped the CPU, errors on test 6. Put the CPU back, swapped out the motherboard, and errors on test 6. Note that all failures with XMP enabled and all mobo Bios the most recent. I’m at a complete loss. My guess is there is an issue with 2/3 parts I swapped or perhaps all 3, but it certainly isn’t a single part.

Specs tested:

Mobos: Aorous x570 Pro WiFi/MSI Mag B550 Max WiFi

CPUs: 5800x/5900x

Ram: 4xGskill TridentZ 3600MT 32GB/2xCorsair LPX 3600MG 32GB

GPU: 3080 ASUS TUF OC 10GB

PSUs: two different 850w Gold PSUs

Can’t connect to internet

For the past week and I’m getting an ‘unidentified network’ message when trying to connect to my internet. Im using Windows 11 on a desktop build and I’m directly connected to a wifi extender with an ethernet cable (Note I have tried connecting to the main router but still have the same problem). I have tried: resetting the dns, inputting all the different command prompts in CMD (like winsock reset etc), turning off drivers and reactivating and finally I’ve done a hard factory reset on my machine. Now I’m stuck on the set up menus because I still can’t connect to the internet! So I’m kinda screwed here. Also I have multiple other devices that are connected to the same wifi extender just fine. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Clicked on a Link on Sketchy Website, Should I Be Worried?

I was reading some graphic comics on a website that had potentially harmful ads. I usually have no issue but my finger slipped and I clicked on it. Could anything have been compromised?

If there is a way to check the link, the domain looked something like https:// then discoveryfeed dot org with some other stuff after.

For reference, I was browsing on safari and I use an iPhone up to date to iOS 17.5.1.
