Ideas and inspiration for 1200 calories a day of "real" food.

This sub is for those who want to stick to 1200 calories a day (give or take) but don't like the idea of relying on engineered diet foods. Diet Foods (DF) are allowed but not as the main focus.

Our Serving Size series posts pictures of food that is a single recommended serving sizeas a means to reframe portion sizes and create a running reference sheet.

All about the gains

In today’s society, we often prioritize material possessions over our well-being, investing in luxury items, technology, and status symbols while neglecting one of the most fundamental aspects of our health—what we eat. We readily spend on things that bring temporary satisfaction, but overlook the long-term benefits of nourishing our bodies with wholesome, healthy food. In doing so, we compromise our vitality for fleeting material gain.

Pizza for 428 calories!

Greek yogurt and self rising flour dough, no fat craft mozzarella cheese, raos pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni very filling and comes out to 36.5 grams protein, 2.6 grams fiber, and 10 grams fat. I used Fage lactose free Greek yogurt. Also need a tiny amount of good olive oil for the pizza pan/coving dough. I would make AND mostly cook the dough first next time. then put the sauce and toppings on after, back into the oven to crisp them. To ensure the crust is properly cooked bc the edge of the crust was definitely the best. It really scratched that pizza itch and tasted really good!!! Did not taste like a fake low cal pizza at all.

Apple pie oatmeal

Or “Goatmeal” bc it’s the greatest of all time meal and and the best oatmeal you’ve ever made! -my husband name suggestion lol

Picture - perfect spice, sweetness, and sugar bee apple is cooked just right with the skin changing color a bit Apple -Sugar bee has been the most delicious to me but experiment by buying a few different kinds from the store. -One medium apple diced with skin on, around 200 grams

Oats 1/4th cup steel cut oats

Spices Don’t over do it and more cinnamon than cloves or nutmeg.

Sugar I used 5 grams of dark brown sugar. Adjust for your own taste AND the type of apple you used. Sugar bee is amazingly sweet so I only use a bit

Milk I used lactose free and around 20 grams or a few tablespoons

Walnuts I crushed up some whole walnuts. Would also be tasty toasted I’m sure.

Tools Small pot and a silicone spatula for easy scraping

◦	1 1/2 cup water to a boil and a tiny pinch salt
◦	Add 1/4 cup steel cut oats
◦	Reduce to a simmer and stir occasionally
◦	About 20 minutes later add your diced apples, chopped walnuts, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Add a splash of milk for creaminess
◦	Finish cooking to desired consistency. Add apples sooner if you like them very soft————————————————
⁃	please text your reviews or add them below:) with your name and what type of apple you used. Including pictures if you can! I’ll add them to this note

Sweet eggs

I’m re obsessed with Eggwhites (microwaved or on pan) can mix in a whole egg optional.

Add cinnamon and low cal sweetener or honey or syrup

Omg like dessert ❤️

I made some cream of buckwheat for breakfast and had sweet egg white really hit the spot for something other than Greek yogurt and berries amazing .

I didn’t know I was so hungry this morning till I almost had the whole Kirkland carton of egg whites, that good or I’m getting crazy.

no cooking?.

this is probably a weird one but is there any filling but low cal foods that arent super expensive? I have tics and the last time I tried to make scrambled eggs I told the pan to 'fly little chicken' and threw the pan through the window! so yeah cooking isn't an option for me..

I am proud of this meager lunch

350 calories, 52g protein. I have a bad habit of snacking at my desk while I work, and this was one of the first days I felt satiated for several hours (didn’t eat from 1230-1830!). Just throw a bit of salt, pepper and sriracha on the tuna to make it a little less boring

Idk about y’all but tuna makes me happy

cereal for a quick sweet treat

ignore this post if grams of sugar/protein are rlly important to you in your maintenance. okay, honestly not the lowest in calorie amt buttt this works so well for my day!! i always need a sweet treat to end the night. cereal is just so annoyingly sweet to fix that craving instead of nasty ass quest bars and poorly recreated low cal tik tok recipes. my cereal of choice(without milk of course) is cinnamon toast crunch. a cup is 170 calories. idk why i didn’t think of this sooner too. but, also lately i’ve been just putting 1/4 of a cup of pancake mix with a little stevia and a few chocolate chips in the microwave for smth sweet too. which is around 160 calories :))
