I made /r/1200isplentyketo because I'm female, short and on keto and thus aiming for a low daily calorie count.
Though there are many keto subs I was surprised to find there was no sub that really catered to these needs - and as keto is easily very high calorie (what with all that cheese and bacon) it is very helpful to collate all the low calories versions in one place.
Whether your stats mean you need to eat 1200 calories to lose weight, or you can eat a bit more but still want some low calorie alternatives - this sub is for anybody looking for low calorie keto meal ideas :)
Anybody is welcome to contribute - even if you're not going as low as 1200 calories a day. Low calorie daily meals are essential for all of us - so everything is appreciated!
As well as being a place to find and share low calorie keto meals, we also hope to provide general support to those following keto and losing weight - and are open to questions and discussion about these topics too :D

I've started to be quite active again so my meals are getting larger. Trying to figure out the balance.
I had these vegetables ready to use from a previous cook so it made for a speedy ragu, tossing in random spices from my cupboard for extra flavour. Brown the meat in the oil, add in cooked vegetables and spices, then the tin of tomatoes when things start to hiss and threaten to stick. I put a spot of water in the tin to get all the tomato. Cook low, reduce till the consistency looks good
Aubergine & Mushroom Ragu (3 portions) 150g diced aubergine 100g diced chestnut mushrooms 1 tbsp olive oil 500g Aberdeen Angus steak mince 400g tin of chopped tomatoes 2 cloves garlic Allspice berries Fennel seeds Nigella seeds Dried red chili Black pepper Salt
419 kcal: 34g protein, 5g carbs, 30g fat

100g deveined cooked prawns in a sauce made from ketchup, siracha and garlic (these are freezer leftovers, so I’ll say approx 10g ketchup, 8g siracha, 1 clove garlic, chive sprinkle)
Very full. Two weeks into Keto I’m generally finding that 1200 is really enough. Recently, more active days I went to 1500.
Thankfully I've got loads of protein meals from the holidays in my freezer, not going to have to spend much in January on food! ✨
Hot smoked salmon (160g) Steamed cauliflower (200g) Soft cheese (50g) Radish (120g) Dill, nutmeg, salt, pepper
Going into M&S in the morning after my workout I often find yellow stickers on the Topside of Beef slices. Rolled up in gem lettuce (one head=120g) with 10g wholegrain mustard, salt, and a drizzle (tsp) of olive oil.
100g of protein cheese (eatlean) that I eat in thin slices one at a time. It helps my diet so much, tastes like a waxy parmesan. I bought a case of it recently so it'll get mentioned alot.

I have a freezer full of leftover turkey (overcooked it at Xmas alas). I took out a leg and put it in my pressure cooker with a bit more than liter of water, 4g of salt, fresh ginger, and cauliflower (added later). Made enough for 2-3 servings.
Hard to know the macros accurately but I took out the meat after boiling and it weighed 300g, so plus the stock which has fat/collagen/marrow melted in it, 25g ginger, and 300g cauliflower, comes to about 773kcal in myfitnesspal.
I decided to try keto slowly - low calories, make sure I get my electrolytes, and keep a 18:6 eating window. Goal is to drop 10kg, get back to my former body and get on top of compulsive emotional eating. Not much of a social media person but I'm going to try to post here to have a bit of accountability!
