Howard is almost certainly Autistic

Howard seems to have all the hallmarks of high functioning autism. He stims like crazy, especially in moments of mental and sensory overload. If you don’t know what stimming is, it’s when you do some kind of physical action like shaking your hands in the air or continuously balling your fists. Howard does the latter when things get too much for him.

Howard is nearly incapable of humor, to him everything is very literal and it’s hard for him to respond to humor properly.

Howard gets massively overloaded by stressful and complex social situations. He needs order and expectations, which he desperately tries to maintain throughout the entire film unsuccessfully. This causes him to spiral.

Howard has the dreaded autistic tantrums/meltdowns, which happens quite a bit.

Howard has serious mental fixations, specifically on conspiracies and his daughter Megan.

Most visible among all of them is the literal acting style employed by John Goodman, where he does slightly odd patterns of behavior in his eyes, especially in eye contract, and unusual blinking.

He just seems to have all the hallmarks of autism and it certainly seems extremely intentional.

10 Cloverfield Lane's world-class Direction

the story of this movie is conveyed to to the audience in such a way that it once makes the audience believe that the girl is kidnapped and he has a very personal or selfish want horror with sketch her and one sir to go outside fighting back without burnt went and d i y made stick or a knife which hurts him but then is hospitality and his reaction which was not expected by the audience that is very calm reaction against the is followed which makes audience believe that this man might not be bad he doesn't have to have any he doesn't seem to have any bad intention towards the so which again put some question in audience mine that the might be a good man but later but later on when we see that she find the open door I am stayingly that's what we think and then we go then she goes outside and see is a man lying in a very helpless and poor position with his arm brused all over red and blood so we are made to believe that no there is something wrong with this man she is not safe he is not a good man then later on we see that he is a bad man and then again the director makes us believe in that literally makes leave that in that situation you are also with the girl or with the man the director wants you be and you are literally with their side you are like nothing can be ended with this plan and in many movies this type of lens are used in the last where you think like this is going to work you know what's going to happen you know it's going to work and it works and then the movie but here you think it's going to work you are that same one of sure that yes it is going to work and the movies on and something else is gonna it like there on a go out or he is on a kill them for sure no one can save them he was a bad man for from the start or aur devar tu suspicious about him from the start he was a good manforce and this man this is the best best way of to retailing in all of the movies I was in my whole lifetime brothers the way of story telling I have never seen outstanding

Have I Found a Plot Hole in 10 Cloverfield lane or am I missing something?

In the beggining of the movie, Michelle asked Emmett how long was he there, which he answered "a couple of days". In this scene, he also says that he got there when Howard was closing the door. Does this mean Howard supposedly leave the bunker after the "attack" to kidnap Michelle? Doesn't this mean the air was actually safe? Or was she already there?

Confused scene

Hi just watched the movie.

A lot confuses me but the scene that confuses me the most is when Emmet goes to tell Howard that Michelle might have be contaminated after going to the ventilation room?

Am I being stupid did I miss something, what’s the motive behind this?

Poor Howard

So I’m rewatching 10 CL and the last parts of the movie are lowkey making me mad lol. This is a really good movie but I think Emmett and Michelle did Howard dirty in the end.

First off, if Howard thought anything bad was happening above ground (nuclear or not) he shouldn’t have forced Michelle or Emmett to stay underground if they didn’t want to. He let them roam free in his bunker but when they expressed leaving he shot down their hopes of getting help and created fear in them to not want to leave. However, if it was me I would let you go if you wanted as long as I felt I informed you well with all the knowledge I had.

But where I think Michelle and Emmett did wrong was this: when Michelle escapes we obviously find out there was something going on above ground. Not nuclear like Howard had originally thought but detrimental to their lives nonetheless. So Howard’s fear was real and his desire to be safe was years in the making. With collecting and building the bunker and supplying it for an unknown amount of time. (They wouldn’t have known for sure until one of them went above but besides that there was a crisis.)

Howard put so much of his time and work into securing a safe place for hisself just in case and having Michelle burn it down, tip over the acid container, and pulling a shelf over him while escaping just felt really inconsiderate to me. Even though he did keep her against her will. He only did it because he thought he was helping. Howard also wasn’t dead (as far as I could tell) last we seen him so imagine burning alive in your safe space. If he survived he was left with no resources to keep him safe.

Emmett was killed before this but since he knew Howard longer I feel he could’ve convinced him to let Michelle and hisself leave the bunker if they wanted to.

Does anyone else feel this way about it or what do you think?

Just watched for the first time

Just got done watching 10CL for the first time, and to me i think they blew it. This movie had so much potential. They should of took out the whole alien scene at the end and just made the movie about Howard kidnapping two people lying and making them believe that they have been under attack and when she escapes find out it was all a lie and at the end she finds who Howards been the whole time and his history of kidnapping plus diving deeper into what made him kidnap. Since they kept the whole alien plot a sequel picking up with Michelle driving down the road to Houston and finishing out the story from there. I feel unsatisfied.

Just gonna post this here since I love this movie.

On my first out of two viewings of this movie, I interpretted the ending as that Michelle had gave birth to her fighting spirit from winning the alien fight, thus she follows the radio call's request for help.

On my second viewing, I interpretted that she had obtained her fighting spirit before she even beat the aliens. Michelle told Emmett that she was previously protected by her brother from her dad, and that she was unable to be like her brother and protect others like him. When she let Emmett protect her from Howard, she lost Emmett whom was arguably a brother figure to her.

After that she probably had a psychological switch flip on in her, that tells her to protect or else you will lose the ones you love. The fighter in her arises and she kicks Howard's ass. The alien fight gave Michelle the context needed to know what fighting the aliens meant, on behalf of the distress broadcast. But it was the death of Emmett that gave her the spirit to make the decision to go fight.

Should I Watch This?

Hello! I have heard amazing things about this film and I really want to watch this. The only issue is that I'm a baby and can't really handle horror. Online creepy pastas scare the crap out of me and Five Nights at Freddy's was close to giving me a panic attack. The closest thing to a "scary" movie I've seen is Jaws, and I was fine during that. I was just wondering if you would think I would be okay watching this even with my very babyish tendencies. I know this is very obscure and probably hard to answer so I'm sorry if this is hard to get a definitive statement on this but thank you to anyone who takes the time to answer this, thank you and have a great day!

Wait wtf

So, I watched this movie.. And I actually was curious of what you guys think about Howard, and what he could've done to his "daughter"... Whether he was trustworthy or not.

Now I have a new set of questions... For instance, are there other movies? Sequences? Spin offs?

I miss playing this game, with funandprettythings down I can't play the game for fun anymore. Is there a game similar to this out there? Or even a duplicate recreation of it out there?

When I went to see Transformers in theaters in 2008 and saw the Cloverfield trailer for the first time, I realized I loved cinema. The sheer excitement in my baby boy bones radiating through me for the first tine was more impactful than almost anything to me at the time. I never knew that their was an ARG for the movie until years later when I saw the trailer for 10 CFL. Then I discovered the Cloverfeels podcast with Mike Falzone and Steve Zaragoza, and I was beyond hooked. It took over my life and all I could tell anyone about when I’d talk was this game and how everything was intertwining and connecting. To say I was obsessed was an understatement. Belonging to a whole community of people all working toward a common goal to decipher messages and text and audio revolving around a movie as the marketing for the movie? Genius. All I want to say is I’m perpetually saddened by the thought that we’ll never get that back, unless JJ and Bad Robot decide to actually make the CloverVerse a reality. The last post in this subreddit was like 3 years ago, and I just want to talk to someone about all this cool shit in my brain that I feel like nobody else in my life cares about. So, my dms are open and reply’s to this post are encouraged. Do you want to talk?...

Sugarcane or Corn Fields?

I just rewatched this movie, looked up its connection to Lake Charles (the place of my birth) on the interwebs, and found this sub. I found some old threads discussing the “cornfields” in this movie, but the fields looked to me more like sugarcane fields. Of course cornfields are possible, as it’s possible to grow corn in a huge variety of places, but sugarcane fields are pretty common in that area. My DH is from the Midwest, and he thought the plants looked too tall to be corn. Can anyone definitively tell me if those are corn or sugarcane fields? Thanks!

cloverfieldlane one insane theory

What if Michelle never broke a lock. And smoke kept coming in, so she faints on her last strike at lock and never get out. Things with aliens and all that, was her hallucination before she choked from smoke.

John Goodman

Just watched this movie for the first time. I thought I loved this guy after The Big Lebowski. He was absolutely perfect in this film. I had so many emotional shifts. It was just kinda creepy and he really pullled that off. Will purchase the Blu-Ray to add too my collection.
