32:9 (7680x2160) v 21:9 (5160x2160) - The struggle (ft. DLDSR)

While waiting for the ultimate WOLED MLA+ native 5160x2160 LG is going to release at the end of the year, I keep swapping between the PG39WDC (QD-OLED gen 2, upscaled at 7680x2160, 144hz, 1070 nits) the Samsung G9 OLED (QD-OLED gen 1, stuck 3440x1440 no DLDSR, 240hz, 1000 nits - not in the picture at the moment) and the LG 39GS (WOLED MLA+, upscaled at 5160x2160, 240hz, 570 nits).

  • I love the 800R curve of the LG
  • I think 5160x2160 is the perfect resolution for the 4090 ROG Matrix
  • I love the extra height the LG has compared to the two 32:9s
  • Sometime I miss the 32:9 aspect ratio
  • QD-OLED HDR has higher peak brightnes

Assassin's Creed 3 stretched HUD fix

I know there's a fix for it on PCgamingWiki but that fix leads to 2 minutes of "Logging into Ubisoft Server" nonsense every time the game launches. I tried to do Hex Edits myself:

3B 8E E3 3F and 39 8E E3 3F to 8E E3 18 40 but this leads to the HUD elements being offset and stretched.

Any ideas about a solution?

Samsung G9 Odessey Display Snap & Warranty Issues

In August of 2023, I purchased the Samsung G9 Odessey (LC49G95TSSNXZA)
I genuinely love the aspect ratio of the monitor for both gaming and productivity and had been enjoying it up until mid March of this year (2024)

After having a pretty long gaming session, my monitor started to develop this large dead pixel line towards the center of the monitor. This was devistating to me, and it couldn't be ignored. After reaching out to some people, I opened up a warranty case with Samsung and cut the monitor off.

Image of dead pixel line.

The day after that issue appears, I turn on the monitor with a loud pop noise that spooked me. When the monitor started to display, there was this large black blob line down the middle of the screen right where that dead pixel line was. This broke my heart even more, and I went ahead and reported this issue to Samsung as well hoping that they'd replace it as well.

Monitor with display showing crack

Monitor with no display showing crack

Samsung Test Display with crack showing

Turns out, it didn't help at all. Shipping the monitor to Samsung (130USD out of my own pocket due for packaging materials) and having them review the monitor for issues ended up leading them to providing me with the very generic statement of "Warranty voided, please call Samsung."

I kept calling over and over again during their service hours and was transfered from individual to individual, and sometimes even hung up on when I reached the other individual (causing me to go through the same loop of calling, explaining, and waiting.)

Getting through to someone at their department that specifically handles returns/repair tickets they greeted me with the concept that Samsung does not repair displays under issues that relate to "Internal Damage" and that is why my warranty was voided (which makes no sense, as this to me seems like a factory defect.) They then proceeded to offer me a "deal" to repair the monitor out of warranty for an absurd ~ 370USD price.

I state that this seems like a factory defect due to all of the coverage specifically on this issue ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MKSSdb5VD0) however, Samsung is not doing anything for affected customers still within their warranty status other than telling them they can repair it for ~ 370USD.

I have no idea how to continue with this, and Samsung has already begun on shipping the unrepaired monitor back to me. It's baffling to me that this issue exists at all on a monitor that costs ~1200USD after taxes.

LG 39GS95QE 21:9 Enabling DLDSR 5120x2160 Fix.

DSR factor is nowhere to be found when plug-in this monitor to your PC.
That's because the monitor like the Samsung G9 Odyssey OLED forces the DSC at any resolution by default.
This method only works for HDMI 2.1 port #1.
Fix steps:

  1. In your monitor OSD go in General > Input Compatibility Version and swap from HDMI 2.1 (PC) to HDMI 2.1 (AV).
  2. Follow the same steps in my PG49WDC's guide here: PG49WCD 32:9 Enabling DLDSR 7860x2140 Fix :
  3. Enjoy 5160x2160 on both desktop and in-game.

Obviously the custom resolution you're going to create for this monitor is 3440x1440, not 5120x1440.

EDIT: If your DLDSR is still locked to a 16:9 aspect ratio upscale, then:

  1. Open CRU > CTA 861 detailed resolution > HDMI support > Delete all the resolutions you find here.
  2. In CRU folder click on Restart.exe.

EDIT2: Run pendulum and see if GSYNC works. If it doesn't just increase the VRR range from 48 to 241 (it's in data block, HDMI 2.1 support).

The resolution in the title is a typo, it's 5160x2160.

Helldivers 2?

Curious if anyone has figured out how to center the UI in this game. It's incredible across 3 monitors, but my neck is gonna break going back and forth 90 degrees looking at the outskirts of my outermost monitors.

Opinions on 21:10?

Hi everyone ,

Just been messing about with ultra wide on my LG C2 with custom resolutions and having a good time experimenting in games, most recently HFW.

I stumbled upon a aspect ratio not really as popular as 21:9 and that’s 21:10 it seems like a great midpoint between 16:9 and 21:9 on larger screens (42”) gives you more horizontal FOV and a bit more vertical than 21:9.

I’ve only tried it in a few games (windowed full screen) and it works great.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried it and has any opinions or do you just stick to normal 21:9?

Need help/feedback

This seems like a great deal. I'm looking to buy a gaming monitor for my son to be used for PS5, YouTube TV, and he wants to get into PC gaming. This seems like a great monitor for all of that. For all of you that own this monitor, would you recommend it? Is there another option that might be better? I need some guidance here as this is outside of my realm. Thank you...any feedback is appreciated!!

Anyone know of a list of games with good ultrawide projections?

Can kind of assume many Unreal 4 and 5 games can at least support panini reprojection through Engine.ini tweaks, and Unity supports it but I don't know of tweaks users can apply to enable it, but at least it's there for devs to implement.

Especially with curved screens on the very wide end, like the 32:9 displays, using a projection other than 'basic' rectilinear is very nice, the difference in Nightingale was dramatic when I tried it yesterday.

With Panini reprojection (r.Upscale.Panini.D=0.5, so not 'full strength) 110deg FOV: https://i.imgur.com/UkVwIIv.jpg

Without reprojection (regular rectilinear projection) 95deg FOV: https://i.imgur.com/OP84L51.jpg

(sorry, lighting is vastly different because I have to restart the game which logs me in at different times in game, and I wasn't standing around waiting for the sun to rise for the first screenshot)

The FOV changes because the reprojection works by rescaling a rectilinear image, so a reprojected image is going to lose at least some vertical FOV in the projection as the centre is magnified more than the outside edges in the 'correction' applied by reprojecting it (if you've worked with stitching photos you can probably picture what's going on pretty easily, if you haven't picture it like wrapping the regular image around a curved surface sort of, and then fitting that to the rectangular screen again).

Anyone that doesn't want to google how to set this in Unreal games: add this to the Engine.ini file and play with scaling settings

[SystemSettings]
    r.Upscale.Panini.D=0.5
    r.Upscale.Panini.S=0
    r.screenpercentage=200

rUpscale.Panini.D can be 0 (off) to 1 which fully corrects on a 32:9 display (i.e., things maintain the same vertical dimension when you centre them on screen compared to the edge of screen)... I've been running 0.5 which keeps the centre from being too blurry.

r.screenpercentage controls the upscaling (so 200 I believe means you're rendering double the resolution then reprojecting, which costs performance but keeps the centre sharper, otherwise it gets blurry). Note: I'm not 100% certain this variable does anything in Nightingale, seems to always have a similar level of blurrier rendering in the centre for me, whether I'm using DLSS, TSR, or AMD FSR, I did find AMD FSR on NativeAA fakes sharpness the best (by over-sharpening the centre it seems) so it doesn't feel like my eyes are a little unfocused lol)

Life Is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered Ultrawide Not Working

This is already a temp fix at the moment - can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3152288790

It would be great if someone with a bit more technical know-how could make it easier for people instead of having to use cheat engine for it.

This is the last remaining Life Is Strange Game without ultrawide support, it is on unity. There is a fix in place for the non-remastered version: https://www.wsgf.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=32282 - this version of the game is a bit worse though.

Very Thankful for anyone who takes a crack at this. Willing to donate if that helps. I would try make a fix myself but simply don't know enough about unity engine games.

What ultrawide questions, myths, or uncertainties would you like to have answered?

The title says it all, what questions around ultrawide do you not seem to be able to find a credible answer for and what are they. I'll do my best to take these questions, research them and come back with some answers.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag 21:9

Don't know if Flawless Widescreen has a specific forum, but I'm just posting my issue here. I've spent the last hour or so trying to get Black Flag to work in ultrawide, as well as the 240fps framerate mod. My resolution is 3440x1440. I am using Flawless Widescreen and it's working...great, but its also giving issues with Crosshair locations. I have tried using the "Display Override Manual" but from what I can gather this does absolutely nothing. I have to set the Surround to only detect 1 monitor so that the game actually goes to my full resolution, but does anybody know a fix for the crosshairs, or how to get the manual display to work?

sUW for Men of Valor - fix for weapon Fov/Hud

Would anyone with UE 2.5 engine knowledge know what we would have to do to get the weapon fov fixed? Maybe even the Hud?

For the most part, the directions as outlined https://www.wsgf.org/dr/men-valor work to get the 3D Viewport working, but that weapon zoom is horrendous.

Would anyone know of any options?

Persona 3 reload Ultrawide HUD fix mod request

I know the game is new but does someone have a mod for fixing the HUD from Persona 3 Reload when adding an ultrawide mod?? I'm using the P3Rfix mod for ultrawide and it's good but the HUD just stays in the center instead of adjusting to the resolution.

G9 Black Screen in PIP/PBP Mode

Hi,

really stupid problem appearantly. I'm using Display Port for gaming / the ultra wide experience and switch to DP + HDMI for work. This has been working for 2 years without issues.

Yesterday I had some PC problems (nothing regarding GPU or the monitor), but needed to reset my PC to a restore point (Friday). Since then, PIP/PBP does not work anymore.

Display Port works fine, always showing even in split screen, HDMI gets acknowledged by NVIDIA as well as Windows as second monitor, the "sound" happens when I plug / unplug the cable, but it just stays black.

If I plug in my work laptop when PIP/PBP mode is enabled, I get 1 half desktop PC via DP, 1 half laptop via HDMI, so that works without problems.

Deinstalled graphics driver with DDU in safe mode already, no changes. Got the newest NVIDIA driver as well. No idea what to do now.

Got a no-name Geforce 3080TI, Windows 11, resolution of 2560*1440 and 60hz. Software version M-A9549GGPA-1008.0. If I go Menu -> Help -> Information, Display Port shows 2560x1440 88.8kHz / 60hz, HDMI2 just shows HDMI2, no other info even though Windows shows me a resolution and hz.

Don't think this is a hardware issue. I restarted the PC several times with / without cable (couldn't disconnect it from the monitor though as it's wall-mounted), the cable seems to work with my laptop and it has worked for the last 2 years without problems.

So, what can I do, kinda at a loss here.

Gold for old: Brightness flicker fix for CHG90 on Nvidia cards

My CHG90 (LC49HG90DMUXEN) used to have a huge amount of brightness flicker on most games that capped around 60Hz if run on an Nvidia card. After a few months I found a link on some forum to a 1025 firmware that fixed it. On the official Samsung site the latest linked firmware downloads stopped at 1021.

A colleague of mine bought a second hand CHG90 and had the same problem, but not the firmware. The link to the Samsung file repo is gone, but after searching hard I found a link to a mirror in this review for posterity.

Robocop: Rogue City sniper rifle bugged at 32:9 ?

I just played the level with the first sniper rifle, and the game doesn't register any hit on target in any way with the sniper rifle. Not with the rifle bang on target, even if I shoot 10+ times, not anywhere on the vertical aim axis to account for any 'bullet drop' the auto-9 doesn't even have. In the meantime I can hit targets far away with the auto 9 rather easily, it just takes a bit because of recoil at that distance.

The sniper does seem to have a completely different zoom mode to the ADS of other weapons. Perhaps it calculates center screen based on an assumed screen ratio ? Never had anything happen in other games quite like this. Anyone else that could use the sniper in this game at 32:9 (3840x1080) ?

PG49WCD 32:9 Enabling DLDSR 7860x2140 Fix

So I own a Samsung G9 QD-OLED 240hz and a Samsung NEO G9 57'' Mini-led 240hz monitor and I am replacing both for the PG49WCD for a simple reason: thanks to ASUS capping the monitor at 144hz, the display doesn't force DSC and with a small trick in CRU the monitor can easily run at 7680x2160.
You can now enjoy the highest widescreen resolution a RTX 4090 can handle, GSYNC, HDR and QD-OLED 2nd gen panel at the same time.

This method has been tested with an HDMI 2.1 cable on PORT#1. I want to specify it since the Samsung G9 QD-OLED 240hz works at that refresh rate with lower resolutions only by plugging the HDMI 2.1 on PORT#2. PORT#1 is console-exclusive, basically.

Made a simple guide below, it requires CRU obviously:

Should I upgrade

Hey everyone! Just got my first widescreen monitor, a 34” 1440p AOC Gaming monitor, and I’m just wondering, after playing a couple of games I’m concerned that my pc can’t really handle ultra wide gaming but I’d like your thoughts. So far I’ve tried Mafia Definitive edition at max settings and could just about hold 60fps with couple of dips, RdR2 at the digital foundry optimised settings got about 40ish fps, without dlss.

My current specs that matter is an I5-12400f, RTX 3060ti and 16gbs of ram.

I was thinking of upgrading to a 4070 super with some form of 14th gen I7, my question is would that be worth the upgrade for myself?

TIA
