This is apparently being spread in Bucks County, PA. Be aware of bullshit like this spreading in your area, keep yourself and your community safe and don't let idiots like this gain any ground.

Added user flares (feel free to edit yours), and planning to liven this sub up some. It's useless to us with no engagement.

There are many reasons why I thing this is a good idea, but also make sure you are prepared for shortages during this time.

So I just got hit by a tornado

This month has been crazy for me as it is, but really? A fucking tornado?

So I don't know anyone saw the trailer park and the Faulkner car dealership that got hit by the tornado, but I live in there and the dealership is right next door.

We were super lucky, just in the edges of the tornado and didn't have any damage. Like, even my garden didn't have a single broken branch. Didn't shake any tomatoes loose even though it threw my big trashcans, table, etc., and knocked down my big trellis. The house directly across the street had siding ripped off and part of their deck.

The big problem is the power outage, but thats mostly because it's hard to sleep in the heat. We don't have a generator but we have gas to cook with. The fridge didn't have much in it and we're eating some of that now. And the big freezer is keeping itself frozen for now. If the power is out for a while well eat the freezer stuff when it thaws and feed our friends for letting us charge our stuff lol. The freezer also works as a great cooler if we get ice.

Tristate Prep Community

My city is in trouble. Not just black Americans, all lower middle class. With the current climate , if SHTF (shit hit the fan)- a COMMUNITY is better than a lone wolf. Looking for people with skills. Mainly foraging, gardening, weapons/tactical training, security, medicine (holistic and western). I’m am not a conspiracy theorist as much as I am a REALIST. I do my own research then plan accordingly. I have no doubt a food shortage is coming - at the very least.

All races, genders, and levels of preparedness welcome. No racism, classism, or judgement. We hold each other accountable because our survival will depend on it.

What does everyone here do/think for weapons preps?

Hey yall, posting on here for I think the first time. I'm curious about everyone's weapons preps and their philosophy on them. I think it'd be interesting to discuss considering the general politics of the Northeast as well as the stricter laws that exist throughout the region. I know in my state (CT) there are very strict laws about firearms and magazines which shape how firearms owners and preppers operate. Namely, 10 round magazines, and ban compliant firearms, for starters. I've also noticed that because we have "Other Firearms" which aren't subject to the bans, as a result there's a substantial tendency towards shorter barrels where I live (many people default towards 12 inches which is the minimum for the "Other Firearm" to be CT compliant with detachable mags).

What are your/your group's solutions? What are the prevailing trends in your area? Etc.

What is everyone doing to prepare for post-election rioting?

It's getting a little crazy out there right now. What's everyone expecting to happen in the Hartford, Boston, etc. metropolitan areas this week?

Water

(See my previous post. Not a huge amount of activity but maybe starting this well get the ball rolling).

According to this, you should have 1 gallon per person per day, to cover at least 3 days. I think that is pretty conservative, but do what you think is best.

I feel that I'm most prep'd with water for a few reason...probably "normalcy bias", but I know my town has huge water reserves and I know people who's job it is to test that water, so I think I'm OK as far as things like what's going on in TX right now.

I have 10 cases of bottled water stacked in the garage, but no large reserve on my property.

I'm a little concerned trying to collect rain water off my house as I know it is covered in lead paint. I'm not sure what my options are for collecting rain water without being able to use gutters (which i also don't have).

Thus, each time I go out I come home with another case of water.

I would like to drill a well at some point, but that's not in the budget any time soon.

There is a pond nearby I could get water from (I have a tractor to move it with), so for flushing I'm OK, and I could drink it if purified.

I do have a life straw for hiking I could use, but I think I'll go order a few more.

I have 2, 55 gallon plastic drums designed to hold water. I guess I could just fill them with a hose and water my garden with it to keep the water rotating through, but with winter coming on, freezing becomes an issue.

Also water related, just not drinking water related:

I know where my water shut off is, and I had it replaced when we moved in.

I use braided metal hoses on my washing machine.

I have 1 sink that needs a local shutoff, so the next time I shut the water off to the house I'm going to add one to it.

I have a sump pump and a backup, and 2 generators to run it if my basement floods and the power goes out.

I'm not in a flood zone so that's not an issue for me.

So:
What is your water situation like?

How are you addressing this?

Do you have suggestions for overwintering water in the NE winters?

What gaps do you have and why?

Besides drinking water: what other water situations did I not mention that you might be dealing with?

An attempt to spur some activity here

Just joined this sub, though I've been sub'd to mainline preppers for a while now, as well as some others you are all probably also a part of.

I thought about this idea (below) for the main branch, but to hopefully enliven this group I thought maybe I'd start here.

My thought is to post a topic once a day in the area of preparedness, and each day we can discuss that topic in the comments, how we are solving that issue, etc etc.

Topics would be: Mental Health

Physical Health

Weather related

Gear

Water

Food

Power (solar, generators, etc)

Defence/Weapons (not really a topic I want to cover and have 0 to add to it, but everyone brings it up)

Fortification (like, house security, camera's, boarding up windows, etc)

So over the next week, we could dive into that topic in the comments, hopefully without it going off the rails being limited to this sub.

Thoughts? Worth it? Would you participate?

Checking in

Hey there NE Prepping community! I'm checking in to see how we are all doing as we approach colder weather, more of the pandemic, and a very rocky election season. Personally, I'm starting to go through my preps and ensure they are ready to go for the next several months. I'm thinking I'll be going out less and less as time goes on. How are you all holding up?

Noticing I can't find rubbing alcohol anywhere...

I'm a bit lacking in my storage unit for medicinal items, so I figured I'd hop over to Walmart and scrounge up about $100 worth of items to check off the list.

One of these was rubbing alcohol. 70% or 90% if I can find it. (electronics stores sometimes carried those)

I must have stopped at about 5 or 6 Walmart and CVS / Walgreens and nobody had it. It's cleaned out of any shelf.

I found 3 random bottles in a local Walmart on the wrong shelf by chance, and got those instead... but I was surprised that item is still out of stock.

plenty of hand sanitizer abound. just no isopropyl.

Pay attention.

There's a lot going on right now, look at all news and information both objectively and follow your gut. Usually it's a sign that you noticed something that your brain isn't articulating to you in another way you can understand. Honestly, you should always be doing this.

Watch all sides, there's always more than the obvious. Question all information you get. Fact check everything, even the most trustworthy or true of heart can be wrong. What info are you being given, and why are they giving it to you? What is the understanding of the people giving or spreading this information? If you saw it yourself, remember that there's more you didn't see. There's probably irony in this statement..but nothing in life is strictly black and white, everything is shades of grey. Actually, for race it's true too, because we are all here in this world together.

Don't be paranoid to the point that it negatively affects your mental health, but don't blindly trust or let your biases control you.

Have a safe Memorial Day. How are everyone's areas looking this weekend?

It's somehow already the end of May. Everyone have a good, safe Memorial Day weekend. Stay prepared, but remember take care of yourselves and your mental health. Remember and honor the fallen, whatever that means to you, and condolences to any who have lost loved ones either in the military or in the current situation.

A couple things you might not think of.

Hey everyone just something I’m thinking of if you are having a hard time finding bleach. You can make your own bleach right at home using pool shock you can find this online I have powder pool shock on hand for this and the powder pool shock last almost forever. Remember bleach has a 6 month shelf life not just for cleaning but you can purify water this way. Also if you are having a hard time finding seeds to plant. Plant your pantry popcorn seeds tomato seeds some will take some will not. Store what food you can.

The weather we are having makes me glad I started my seeds late.

We had a slight frost last night, and tonight is also in the 30s. If they were farther along and already moved into pots then some of the less hardy plants would have been damaged or died.

As it is, not all have even popped up yet (if the others even will). Progress
