What is this noise in my backyard?

Hi all,

Hoping to get some help! There has been this croaking noise that comes out every afternoon/evening for the past week and I have no idea what it is.

I thought it was a bird at first, but realised soon after it may be an insect?

Thanks in advance!

Baby echidnas are kind of translucent, here you can see the milk it has consumed

The turtle frog is found in Western Australia. It gets its name from the resemblance to a shell-less chelonian, which is a type of turtle.

What bird species is this? (Asking for a mate).

Hello! My best friend sent me this picture she took of a bird in her familys backyard (South Brisbane).

She reckons it might be a rainbow bee-eater but i'm not sure. Any assistance would be great!

Thank you!!

Butcher bird family

Hi all, I was advised by my local wildlife carer to put a baby butcher bird in a bucket and hang it in the tree which I tried today and the silly baby just jumped right out so I quickly gave up on that idea, however obviously its parents weren’t happy I was touching their baby, they swooped and called out etc

I want to make a peace offering so they won’t hate me forever because I really don’t want to be swooped every time I go outside

Echidna siting on a nature walk

Got lucky to see this little guy or gal on a walk to one of the falls in Lorne. It was so low-set it was leaving a trampled path in the grass

Looking for Ethical Snake/Spider Milking Experiences Around Australia

I'm planning a trip around Australia and would love to watch snake or spider milking as part of the experience. I'm aware of the Reptile Park near Sydney, but I’m hesitant to support it due to activities like baby koala and dingo petting, which I find unethical.

Does anyone know of other places across Australia where I can watch snake or spider milking? I’d really appreciate recommendations for locations that focus purely on education or conservation without unnecessary animal interactions. I’ve tried searching online, but haven’t had much luck.

What’s the animal (bird?) that makes the long drawn out note then the quick whip at the end?

I can hear one from my room

Somthing creeping in my garden, Wyndham, Victoria.

I was having a lovely day in the garden, untill this big guy walked on my hand!

Luckly we both scared the crap out of each other and no one hurt and then we both went our separate ways.

I've never seen this kind of spider before. Can someone enlighten me as to what this terrifying looking species is?

Sometimes we all feel like a wombat caught sleeping by the sprinkler, right?

Today at the Australia Zoo I saw this little fella caught napping, when it started raining and then the sprinklers came on to top off his day!

In July 2024, the first picture of a blue magnificent tree frog was published. It was spotted in the Charnley River-Artesian Range Wildlife Sanctuary. The blue skin is caused by a mutation called axanthism which affects the yellow pigmentation leaving only the blue.
