With Covid being less of a threat, how about planning a meet-up?

I'm about an hour north of Atlanta.

Looking for someone that knows about bushcraft and foraging North of Atlanta, Ga.

Transplant from Southern California. Want to learn about the area from someone that knows it well. Happy to work out some deal for cash or beer or whatever.

Thanks,

Prepping Groups?

Are there any prepping groups within an hour or so from say Madisonville, KY? I would love to get with a group eventually to talk and learn and be prepared for the future and such. Anyone with leads? Thanks!

I'm Back!

Hey everyone, I've been away at training for the Army the last few weeks. Hope everyone is doing well and is keeping up with their preps! I'm adding a rain barrel and fixing some drainage areas around the house. How is everyone else doing?

Just finished Lights Out!

Lights Out by Ted Koppel does a good job on explaining the vulnerability of the power grid. If anyone wants information on the subject matter it is a good read. It doesn't really offer any solutions the problem though. Thanks u/neargrid for the book trade.

Still no meetups? A potential possibility?

When I created this group, the goal was to link about and build a network and sustainible community. I understand the hesitancy of trying meetup groups and the stigma attached to them. What if some of us signed up for a Spartan race, tough mudder or similar event centrally located? Physical fitness is a staple of being prepared, it gives everyone motivation to workout, and allows us to meet each other in a normal atmosphere. What does everone think?

SEPN Annual Spring Camp Out (May 5-7)

I wanted to put up a post to invite y'all to the SEPN Annual Spring Campout. It's being held May 5-7, 2017 at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Area near Mansfield, GA.

If you're thinking of attending, please be sure to let us know: RSVP Link

This will be primitive site camping, but some people will be there in travel trailers (I'll be in a tent...or maybe just a hammock).

Finding it hard to find the time.

Just sharing one of my challenges. I have a problem with finding the time to focus and grow my preps. I work ~50 hours a week with National guard duties once a month. Then I have all the normal husband father/family stuff. When I do have free time most the time I just want to relax and do nothing. I feel that I run so wide opened all the time I just get burnt out. Anyone have a similar story?

If I had to bug out in this weather I think I would be screwed. [Gear question]

Recent transplant from Southern California to Northern Georgia. We just don't have the cold weather gear we would need. Any good brands I should be looking at? Lite weight would be nice but isn't of paramount importance.

Potential Prepper Property in NC

A friend of mine in South Carolina has asked me to put the word out about a piece of land that she is trying to sell near Cullowhee, NC. There is an incomplete cabin on the land and a year-round stream. This was going to be a retirement homestead, but divorce ended the project. She is now trying to get rid of the property so that she's not paying taxes on land that she never uses or visits.

Link to property listing

ETA: The property is located at 1000 Gleneden Lane, Cullowhee, NC. Here's a video of the property from when it was first listed a few years ago: YouTube Link

We found a similar group!

Hey all. Turns out were are not the only South Eastern Prepper Network! u/CountrySngr reached out to be and let me know about their group forum which is www.seprepnet.com. If you would like go check it out, it seems they have some active members as well as a planned camp out in May. To be clear, there is no affiliation between the two groups, but as cooperation and meeting up is our goal, the two groups seem to have aligned interest. Welcome u/CountrySngr and anyone else who joins us from the other side!

Losing the Bug Out Location Update!

Posting this a little later than I wanted to due to life.

This weekend I went down to my Bug Out Location to dig up some the caches and retrieve some other stored items. In total we dug up 11 5 gallon buckets and a weapons cache made from pvc pipe.
10 of the 11 Buckets contained food and one contained ammo. All but one bucket ( the ammo bucket) survived the unearthing process. The ammo bucket lid suffered a crack in the lid as we were trying to find it to dig it up.

We dug up everything in less than an hour. That's two people with just shovels. We were expecting longer due reading about people saying how hard it was to dig them up. My father and I couldnt remember if we buried 10 food buckets or 15. I thought it was 10, he thought it was 15. As you can see we only found 10. So when we bury something again we are definitely going to write it down. I'm not sure why we didn't in the first place. Lessons learned.

None of the buckets were sealed with anything other than the lid you see on them. It proved an effective mosture barrier. The Mylar bags and inside of the buckets were dry. Half of the buckets were burried underneath a roof, the others were not, and we couldn't tell a difference. Everything was buried for ~ two years.

Opened up the PVC cache to check the weapons for rust. We also put a few rounds down range to insure they were operating. The PVC cache had a ruger 10/22, 12 guage pump, scope for 10/22, machete, shethed knife, .22 ammo, 12guage 00, and a 12 guage bandolier. The weapons were wraped in trash bags and sealed with duct tape before being placed in the the PVC. The actual cache was sealed with Petroleum Jelly and Duct tape. It was also burried underneath a roof. We didn't notice any mosture.

There were quite a few other items we retrieved from the house itself, but we have been quite fortunate nobody has broken in, although the house is way out in the country.

Here is a link to some pictures of us digging everything up, let me know if you have any questions!

Losing the Bug Out Location

Tomorrow my father and I will head down to the old family farm to retrieve our preps. Due to being a few hours away, and nobody having time to upkeep it the family has decided to sell it. Because the farm was unattended most of our preps we cached underground. This will be the first time we will have dug anything up, and I am curious to see how well buckets and containers held up. I'll post pictures of the adventure, late tomorrow most likely.

Hope everyone is doing well and remember show and tell Friday!

Bushcraft and rough camping in Northern Georgia.

Anyone have a suggestion for locations where you can practice bushcraft and rough camping in Northern Georgia? Moved to the area recently and I haven't found anything other than private land.

Thanks!
